Also, Kudos if you know what reference is in my title.
Second, Im sorry if this has been made. D:

Alright, so. Hypos. Hypodermic needles?
I can't even be in the same room with one on a picture without bursting into tears. And if I'm suppose to be on the receiving end of one, I have to be physically restrained.
I am terrified of these things. Absolutely horrified.
I'm also an eighteen-year-old, and may be Anemic. But we don't know.
So.
I'm getting my blood taken tomorrow, and I'd like to know if I'm alone or not alone in being this terrified. Are you all afraid of needles? if so, how do you curb your fear?
If not needles, what is something else that scares you hysterically? If nothing does, do you know someone who has a fear like that?

>3<
I'm terrified to get my blood drawn tomorroooow. D:

I have the same problem, i'll just stare at one and i'll burst out crying. The last time I had a shot was a while ago and it was to numb my big toe because they thought that I dislocated it, it wasn't dislocated... What I would do is ask someone to come with you just so you can hold their hand or something, I know it sounds dorky and childish but that really helps for me. XD

Oh, yay me not being alone!
They're actually making me take Valium, a really powerful relaxant, so Im somewhat calm. Then they're going to have to hold me down.
I've missed three appointments because of this...phobia. D:
I need it done because if I am anemic I need to get it treated. >.<
Thanks for the hand-idea. I'll try and convince my Dad. >3<

I'm pretty scared of needles myself. I've had my blood drawn a couple times; rather unpleasant. The first time I was around your age (7-8 years old) and my Mom was with me. She held my hand, which really helped. She also bought me a mint chocolate milkshake from BurgerVille (fast food chain in Oregon, but the food's really good and not nasty or anything...). Besides having my Mom's hand to hold, I remember staring at something else while it happened. So try focusing your attention at something on the wall. Deep breathing also helps. Good luck! ^^

I have a friend that is terrified of needles and she's 18... She just avoids needles at all costs. I actually like needles - don't ask why - so I torment my friend. We just talk about them and she gets squirmy and usually leaves the room. It's all in good fun, but I find it hilarious.
As for your problem, I wish I could help you, but the most support I can give you is not to look at the needle and hope you're getting candy.... or something. ><

Wish I could've been more help.

Star Trek? I just learned to relax. Relaxing my muscles made it so that didn't feel any pain when I got stabbed...

It wasn't always that way. I'm 19 now, but once when I was 13 I was so afraid of them that I grabbed the chair in the room and hid behind it in the corner and sort of used it as a weapon when anyone came near. My mother was so embarassed.

Ugh, I feel the same way! I hate needles and just the idea of a hypodermic penetrating my veins...eek!

I feel like such a child when I go to the doctor and have to get blood work or a shot or something. I have to force myself to remain still, and it seems really difficult.

Nice Star Trek reference BTW.

Are you referring to the McCoy who's just generally awesome and non-scary as long as you stay on his good side, or the alternate timeline one who actually sneaks up on you and stabs you in the neck?
Either way, that's pretty bad...though I'm in no position to talk, I'm not much better. XD; The first time I had to have my blood drawn I almost bolted. They actually had to hold me down because I was so hysterical. XD;;

Luckily, even though I still can't take them without a good distraction, I have gotten better about them if I have something to help me through it...usually my iPod does the trick. It's a good thing too, because I have to have my blood drawn pretty regularly. Including tomorrow, ooh boy, I'm the lucky one. XD;;;

But being able to handle it without throwing a fit doesn't mean I enjoy it...or don't tense up horribly, much to the annoyance of my doctors and nurses. XD;;;

Don't worry I'm 18 and I still take a stuffie with me if I have to get a needle. I hate to squeeze my stuffy to death, and wince and not look anywhere near the needle. It helps a little if the person giving the shot talks to me about normal stuffs.

I'm perfectly fine with needles, like piercings, tattoos, and shots, no of those things bother me.
However, I refuse to get blood drawn, it's not so much the needle as it is someone poking around in my arm with a sharp object until they find a vein, and the sucking blood out of my body that really gets me. My mom and I both have veins that are a little difficult to find, so they NEVER get it on the first try, and just sit there jabbing at my arm. I'm not terrified, but I just avoid getting it done whenever I can.

Oh Bones. XD

Anyway, I don't have a big problem with needles, but I don't think that anyone likes to be stuck. It hurts and some nurses and docters don't give a darn if they make it worse then it has to be.
