I was a bit disappointed with Fushigi Yuugi Genbo Kaiden. The artwork wasn't that good. In fact, it seemed kind rushed and sloppy. Also, the story was essentially the same as Fushigi Yuugi, only with a different priestess. Honestly, the only things that kept me reading was that the main heroine could actually fight and that I had heard a rumor that the main character would also fail in her quest and die at the end. I don't know if that will actually happen, and I actually kind of doubt that it will, but I'm still curious to see how it will end.
But yeah... the artwork really bothers me. The artwork in the original Fushigi Yuugi was pretty nice, but the art in this new one kind of sucks. Since when does a mangaka's work decline with time? Other than Rumiko Takahashi, I can't really think of any.
Lol, sorry, that was a kind of an unfair insult toward Rumiko Takahashi, but I was also pretty disappointed with Inuyasha...

Last I checked, volume 7 was out in Japanese. :3
@Pixore: Mm, I rather like Yu Watase's art, but I see what you mean.
I don't really think she's regressed; it's just that she hasn't really gotten much better. o_o;; I remember how halfway through Flame of Recca, the art became amazing. Yu Watase's style's pretty constant; doesn't change for the better or for the worse (not much, anyway).
I'd say she improved with experience, but her stayle has remained the same. Basically, all the errors in art I saw in Fushigi Yuugi were corrected in Genbu Kaiden, but nothing really drastically changed or improved.

Well, I actually agree with Pixore on the fact that Genbo Kaiden was essentially the same as Fushigi Yuugi, which is why I didn't even bother reading it.
But Fushigi Yuugi itself was a pretty good series.
I really didn't expect half of the things that happened to actually happen.
Shan't not give spoilers~~

I thought Genbu Kaiden was better than the original, but honestly, it was the same thing. The art did seem to be a bit sloppy for it but I guess the mangaka seemed to be tired with due dates! xD.

It basically is the same thing as the original one, but I still really enjoy it. The characters and story are both pretty cool. My ex-boyfriend and I enjoyed reading it and talking about it. It's been forever since I read the series though. Yuu Watase tends to do more than one series at a time, so she moves a little slower when it comes to producing manga volumes.
