Darkness had once again possessed the city’s streets when fine lids fluttered to reveal distant almost ebony browned pupils as the vampire’s mind slowly freed itself from death’s temporary embrace. With stealthy fingers the man drew back the air tight lid and lifted his lean muscular form from the lacquer black coffin and silently made his way into the living area of his oversized penthouse. Running a paled hand through his jet black hair the man groaned as he stared out at the current city he chose as his playground. From the top of the fifty four story building the view of the cityscape was one most people would find breathtaking, the array of artificial lights sparkling in a variety of shapes and sizes against the cold bleak buildings to many could be considered magical; especially in this single room where the walls seemed to be made of glass. Deep in thought the count found himself, only the persistent pulling of black canine on the leg of his pants brought his mind back to the present. “You’ll eat when I decide, Hokoru.” He muttered bitterly as he retrieved the cloth from the rather large dog’s muzzle. Another deep groan passed through his lips as he proceeded to the kitchen and poured a hefty sum of dog food into the animal’s special bowl. Though to no one would he admit it, this single dog was the embodiment of his only affections, only it had managed to fully capture his heart. Hokoru, proud, he liked to imagine the beast that now feed with a happily furious tail at his feet. A chuckle he voiced before giving the dog’s pointed erect ears a thorough rubbing before making his way back to the bedroom. This particular man held a certain attractiveness that made feeding, and his cruel toying, all too easy. And oh how he enjoyed it. After a blistering shower and a change of clothes he bid the mighty dog farewell with a twist of his hand insured the apartment would be as he left it when he returned.
To the untrained eye the man appeared to be a darkly dressed lad of his early to mid twenties that walked at a leisurely pace down the near empty sidewalk. “How amusing.” He thought as a sly smile smoothed across his features, “it seems they’ve become even more aware of our presence. Such a pity really.” Deeper dug gloved hands into the pockets of his jeans, “No matter, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.” Upon his arrival in this city he discovered a night club only a few blocks from his residence that was seemly made for him and those like him. Fashioned in gothic architecture even the customers of the club strived to pass themselves as part of the vampire’s society and eagerly anticipated the night when they themselves would meet a true being of the night. Stepping toward a side entrance the man only glanced at the massive bouncer, receiving a silent nod, he passed through the door; hidden from the near bursting line between the ropes.
Always it took him a moment to compose himself after walking into the flash of purple and blue lights that only dimly lit the area. Often the loud pulsing of the lyrically absent techno music left him slightly delirious, though his always somber expression gave no evidence of this momentary discomposure. Once seated in his accustomed corner the man’s lids once again closed and a sigh slipped past his tongue. “Akoomooo, love!” Came the high excited voice of a small framed brunette as she sprang onto his lap, “Oh love, I was afraid you’d decided to go somewhere else. I would have been so upset.” The lovely woman grinned a gleaming white smile as she playfully wrapped her arms around him. “Miss a chance to see you? Dearest Karasu I would never dream of such a thing.” A peppy nod of her head she gave in response before sliding over to sit next to him. “There are rumors on the wind.” She muttered only audible to his ears alone, her tone much more sedate and serious than that of her greeting. The man replied with a mere lift of his brow. “Slayers have been reported sniffing around this place; I suppose it was only a matter of time.” She paused as the ice of her eyes clouded with what he could only interpret as worry, “They say she is among them.” The man was silent long after her voice was carried away with music and the early life of the club. “Humph. Let her come.” He said at last, a cunning grin molding to his lips.
