History:
Leah didn’t enjoy recalling much from before the…vampire issue. Thinking about anything before that would lead to uncomfortable memories about her and Sam and, despite the entire pack believing she was eternally brooding over that, she really would prefer to just move on. As such, she considered it like a different life. To her, her life began the day she first shifted.
Leah was unlucky enough to become the first female shapeshifter in La Push. It was a difficult situation. She could no longer avoid the bane of her existence. Now he was her leader. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, she had to spend the majority of her time with idiotic teenagers.
Then, before she knew it, she was in a pack of three- following Jacob because she was worried about Seth. It wasn’t the complete truth, but it was enough. She didn’t need Jacob Black thinking she actually cared about him, because she didn’t. She just couldn’t help but think he was in a similar situation to her. That little brat Bella had played with his feelings then dropped him the second Edward came back into the picture. But she never said a word. Because Leah Clearwater did not empathize with annoying teenagers.
When Nessie came around, however, it was almost as if she had yet another pack leader to despise. Was it bad that she had wanted Jacob to agonize over Bella? It wasn’t that she wanted him to be unhappy, but maybe he would eventually understand and the packs would stop thinking she was some bitter bitch. But, of course not, Leah Clearwater never got what she wanted. Instead, Jacob was suddenly head over heels for the spawn- Nessie was oh so appropriate a nickname- and Leah was left feeling even more bitter. They had almost been friends- almost- but Leah would not stand for being around the vampire-spawn obsessed idiot.
College was the only answer. It was different, fun even, and, despite a weekly necessary shifting, she actually enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it seemed she was needed in La Push again. Seth had informed her of a new shape-shifter- another girl. Leah had to admit she was curious to meet the other girl who shared her curse.

He'd managed to scrape out and replace all of the innards of the car, but for some reason, the new engine he'd ordered was still giving him a whole head full of grief.

*Bzzzzzzzt* His watch alarm went off reminding him that it was time to get to his shop and open up. Haven't heard from Nessie yet. That's weird though - she usually spends the night with Alice and Barbie but she always gives me a call. I'm sure they've decided to whisk her off on some crazy venture this morning. I'll just give her a buzz once I get to the shop.

After wiping off his hands with a nearby rag, he swung his briefcase over his shoulder and hopped into his old Volkswagen Jackrabbit - because he was feeling nostalgic this particular morning.

After pulling up to his shop, Jacob scowled at the "Sorry, we're closed" sign that was still hanging at the door. Dammit Seth, I told you to open today. I should have known to get here sooner. After stepping out of his car, he noticed a young girl hunched over her car right across the street from the shop. I wonder if she's a potential customer... He walked over to the door and and unlocked it before shuffling in and deactivating the security system. Just as he logged onto his register, the phone rang. Jacob let out an exasperated sigh as he reached for the receiver. Seth! You better have a good story.

"Hey Jake, I'm sorry I'm not there yet. I was pulling an all nigher. I had a huge paper due online and I couldn't finish it yesterday because you gave me that stinking triple shift so that you could be with your Nessie." Seth's voice was both pleading and irritated. Jacob knew he must have been stressed out. He was going to school at the University or Washington.
"Okay okay, but call me next time okay? I took my sweet time getting out the door because I had you scheduled to open. When do you think you'll be able to get here pal?"
"I don't know. I just woke up, give me 25 minutes okay?"
"Sure thing. See you then." Hanging up the phone, he glanced out of the window at the girl who was parked across the street. Her silky black hair was tied up into a long braid that hung over her shoulder as she stared into the hood of her car and her jeans hugged her curves lovingly, he noticed. It looked like she had just finished changing her oil. Nice ride for a teen. I wonder if she realized that we're open now.

"Dual BP one-two-oh-fourrrrr." Jacob cocked his head to the side as he typed the the model number into his computer. "Well we definitely carry it, but I just have to see if we have one in stock."

The girl walked up to the counter and cutely swirled the end of her braid through her fingers.
"Black's Auto Repair and Supplies." Jacob felt a grin pull up the corners of his lips as he continued. "Owned by yours truly. I'm Jacob Black. Nice to meet you. And who, might I ask, are you? Are you here for a couple weeks or did you move in town permanently?"

[[It's fine. The post length doesn't really bother me, it gave me just enough to work off of. It's not length that matters, but substance. Now this would go easiest if Christian's parents are friends with Jacob. If you wanna be stereotypical and make her a Clearwater descendant or something, I don't care it might make it easier to follow if she is a descendant of a cannon character. It's up to you if you want to original with her lineage we can just make it so that her parent(s) grew up on the res and Jake were friends with them. Also, is Christian full Quileute or Half. Regardless of if she's half, what is her full ethnic backgrounds and which parent knows Jacob/is Quileute? Just so you know what I have in my mind, I am going to have Jacob search for the sub-woofer and lie that it's not there. So that he can get her to come back to the shop the next day when he has a better and more expensive one in stock. ;) ]]

She actually called me about you. I hear that you are presently unemployed right now. How do you plan on managing all of your extra free time?"

Jacob rubbed his chin as he scanned the computer once more. 'Ah, there they are. The Dual BP's. We only have one left in stock. One the one hand, we are getting a shipment of a better model in tomorrow. I suppose I could work with this one seeing that her parents are friends... though I don want the little bugger to start expecting discount luxury parts.

"Ok here's the thing Christine. We have the one you want, but there' only one in stock and it's on hold. If you come by tomorrow I can get you a better system. But, first tell me, what's your budget?"

But all snarky jives aside, six figures was a lot for even an adult to save up. How in the hell did a teen come across that kind of money?

"Little girl. Do you know that you can by a house in some places with that kind of money? All jokes aside, how did you save up so much? Did you win the lottery? hehehe And just how much do you know about cars." Leaning forward, he gave her a wink as he watched her twirl her hair in her fingers.

Jacob grinned as Christine went on animatedly about the work she's done.

"And where did you learn to work on these cars? Have you been to school for it yet? Who would trust you to work on such high end cars with no professional or academic experience? Besides, the whole buy and fix it up process still requires a lot of starting capitol. You can't convince me that you don't get at least some help from your parents with this. Though I do give you credit for you ingenuity. I used to work on cars myself when I was a teen. But I never got to work with really nice cars because I had no professional backing. That's why I went to school, got my degrees and work experience, and now you see I have a small empire. Sure most people wouldn't call a mere two locations an empire, but I built both stores up with my bare hands. Besides, I get to do what I love." Jacob looked at Chrissy has she continued to twirl her silky black hair around her narrow little finger. God, she really looked like Crystal. It was a small wonder that he didn't recognize who she was right off the bat.

"Now tell me little girl, what do you want to do when you grow up?"

"Nevertheless, your story is endearing. If you want a job, I could use a receptionist - but don't go getting your hopes up just yet. You can come in tomorrow to buy your part and then I'll administer an exam. You need to pass with 95% in order to get hired. Plus you have to pass an interview." Jacob smirked as he looked Christian over once more. 'I wonder if I can troll her into doing what ever I want. There is something about this girl that SCREAMS tease me! hehehe Maybe it's because she's a cheerleader.'

"Oh and, tomorrow for the interview. You eh, need to wear pink high heels, and bright green leggings. Oh! And don't forget to curl your hair. Female dress code and all." Coyly he winked at her before he averted his attention to the door to greet a new incoming customer.

Jacob raised his eyebrows at the thought of the teen dressed in such a fashion. Her parents would have both their asses if she came to the shop dressed like a stripper - though he had to admit that the image was hott. With an equivocal shrug of his shoulders he greeted the customer browsing at the air fresheners before addressing her again. "Ha, I don't know about that missy." He walked across the store to straighten up a display of emergency supply kits.

"And about that part, you can pick it up tomorrow, but you can't get an employee discount until the day you start work. Which I decide." He looked back at her with devious eyes as he waited for her response. "But you should probably get home. I've gotta make a phone call to the wife in a few seconds anyway.

"Hey Hey Hey! Not in broad daylight guys. You never know who could be... ah forget it." It had been a number of years since people had begun shape-shifting again, but it was still a good idea to follow basic precautionary measures. Outsiders were on the Res all of the time. It would be a sticky situation if a random traveler saw a teen age girl turn into a wolf right before their eyes.

After ringing up the sole customer in the store, Jacob perched himself on the stool behind the register and let himself slip into a quite reverie. 'When is that annoying kid going to quite horsing around and start his shift already???' He looked outside and saw Seth running around and continuing to amuse himself by taunting Christine. It made him feel like a crotchety old man, but he took advantage of the fact that Seth was momentarily outside the shop window to call him inside.

"Get in here you tardy bastard! It's time for you to start your shift and I have to call my wife for God's sake it's already past 10!" Reluctantly Seth sulked into the shop and clocked in. Triumphantly Jacob made his way into the back to sit behind his desk and give Nessie a ring. Nobody picked up the home phone. 'Well that's strange. At the least I was expecting her to pick up on the first ring and curse me out for waiting so long to call her. I haven't seen her since yesterday because she was with family so I know she was expecting my call...' Then Jacob called Nessie's cell number. It went straight to voice mail. Now he was starting to get worried. On the one hand, Nessie was an adult and could manage herself. Chances are something happened with the in laws and she was helping them control the situation. 'Great, now I'm going to have to drive by the zombies to see what's going on with my wife.'

[[I think we should make it go to the next day or something, to move plot along. If you want your next post can still be today, and it can just be character development and plot set up with Christine at home with her parents. And then Jacob's post can just start off next morning. Or you can start it off with Christine coming in the next day for the Job interview. What ever floats your rock.]]

Jacob woke up that morning feeling like hell. He had barely slept because he spent the night tossing and turning and recounting the ugly conversation he had with Renesmee on the phone the night before. When Jacob came home from work the night before, Nessie was still gone. He checked the fridge but she hadn't bothered with the courtesy of a note or explanation. Not only was he worried sick, but he was angry.

Frantically he called up the Cullen household. A shocked Renesmee picked up the phone.
Ness: Hello? Cullen Residence.
Jacob: Why the hell haven't you called?
Ness: Jacob? What's wrong? I don't know why you're taking that tone with me. I'm your wife, not your child.
Jacob: That's right. You're my wife. Our house is a home not just some place where you can come and go as you please with out regard for the fact that you actually live there.
Ness: Honey, you're not making any sense. It sounds like somebody drank a controlling cocktail before they called.
Jacob: Me? Controlling?!? One night of you not telling me anything about your whereabouts was fine but two is crossing the line. What the hell is going on over there. Why is it that whenever something happens with the rest of the vampires you don't even clue me in. For Pete's sake YOUR MOTHER talks to me more than you do lately.
Ness: Well Jacob that's not my fault. I'm busy too. You knew what it would be like with me being pre med. I have to follow the footsteps of my grandfather. And as far as vampire dealings, it's a family matter I am not really inclined to talk to you about it at the moment.
Jacob: Oh, so now I'm not even family now? That was real nice Nessie.
Ness: You know what? I can't deal with you right now.

Remorsefully Jacob pulled himself out of bed and slumped his way into the shower. He let the smooth rhythmic beating of the hot water calm him down and clear his mind of his current drama with his love. After his personal meditation session in the bathroom, he finished getting ready and sped off to work. Today it was his aqua green convertible Bently. Cliche or not, he enjoyed taking this particular car for a ride when he felt blue. The sleek leather interior and luxury features of this ride were always the best pick-me-up for any sour mood.

It had been a few hours before Christian entered the shop for her interview. Though, he wasn't quite sure if she was there for an interview or world war III. Incredulously, he raised an eyebrow at her as he examined her outfit fit for a day in the Military.
"Are you here to ask for a job or fight your way through the 'Nam country side?"

[[I don't care about length, but could you give me a little more plot substance in your posts to work off of? Then it would be easier to think of worthwhile replies. Thanks.]]

"Well, that's lovely deary, but if you get the job I'm not letting you near anybody's car. You'll be in charge of checking in clients, manning the register, and doing any other random custodial tasks I tell you to. I need a sales associate. If you want to ever actually get your hands on a vehicle, you'll have to had have some professional instruction on the matter and garnered some trust from yours truly." He smiled at her enthusiasm. "But, don't get too discouraged kiddo. If Seth and I give you some professional instruction classes that you show promise in I'll probably let you help out with little things on the cars. People like to know that licensed professionals are working on their...babies." He tried to put things in terms that she would understand.

Weakly, Jacob let out a haggard sigh. Though driving in his Bentley had taken some of the edge off of his mood, he was still crabby. Rensmee had yet to call him, nor had she picked up any of his calls. Curtly, he shoved a pile of stapled packets towards the "army of one" dressed teen. "You need to fill out the experience resume, questionnaire, and application. Then if you want, you can buy your part but your employee discount won't kick in until after I review your credentials and decide to hire you. I'll call you within a weeks time with my decision. I am also going to ask you some questions before you leave." Jacob examined the girl coyly to make sure she was handling all of the information he had thrown at her. The last thing he needed was some incompetent kid who couldn't handle the shop on a busy day.

Jacob saw the Nissan Skyline that he bought Leah for her birthday a couple of years ago. He smirked at the incredulous remarks that he knew she would have for his new potential employee. Leah just loved to pick apart fresh meat. Not only was Leah one of his most loyal pack members, but she was also the quirky general manager of his Forks based location. Leah was the most responsible person he could think of to head one of his three locations for him. On the other hand, he hated giving her so much control, and Leah, she knew that.

"By the way Christine, the other day, you transformed right in the middle of the street. We may be on the Res, but outsiders still pass through here day by day. You should never expose your other self while there are... witnesses. If you want, you can meet with me at night in the forest and I can help you work on your anger management. It should help if you want to harness control of your abilities. Also, Leah's here. She's the general manager of the Forks branch. She's also the only other female wolf I know of. You might want to get to know her. I'm sure she could offer you any... girl advice or guidance or what ever it is you female wolves talk about."

[[Okay, I gave yall a LOT to work off of. ]]

Because of this, she couldn't help but drive at possibly dangerous speeds as she headed for Jacob's shop. The car took amazingly well to the speed and she had to admit that Jacob could be good to her sometimes. The car, a Nissan Skyline, was a gift- though Leah used the term gift loosely. She'd threatened him into buying it for her for her birthday after insisting that he couldn't possibly expect one of his store managers to be driving around in the piece of shit she previously had driven. He'd get absolutely no business with that sort of advertisement. This, of course, hadn't worked on him so she had turned to a much simpler threat- she'd chop off parts rather precious to him to ensure that he and the freak vampire spawn couldn't reproduce. She had the gorgeous car not long after that.

Pulling up to the shop, Leah looked around for Seth. He wasn't running around and getting into trouble- she still saw him as a fourteen year old with ADD- which meant he was either inside actually doing his job, incredibly unlikely, or he was skipping entirely. Clearly Jacob had no idea how to control her little brother. She should remember to get him a dog training book for the next holiday that came around. They would both get a few laughs out of that.

After giving up on finding Seth, she gave the gas a little push- in park- revving the engine a bit to give a little hint that someone else was there. No need to walk in on something she didn't need to see, though Leah desperately hoped that the demon spawn wasn't around at all. As she walked towards the door, her eyes darted to Jacob's car. "Pretentious ass," she mumbled. As if she should say anything. It was his money that got her her car. Her attention returned to walking inside when she spotted a Mustang parked outside. Her brow arched and she rolled her eyes. "And what is that doing here?"

She swung the door open and walked inside, her eyes immediately being caught by the curiously dressed girl talking to Jacob. Combat boots, camo pants, a black stomach baring tank top, fingerless gloves...? Leah could continue questioning the girl's appearance, but she had a feeling she'd be there all day if she just kept going. Instead, she walked up next to the girl and eyed her critically before looking at Jacob. "What are you doing with scantily clad little girls, Black?"

"Oh Leah, your positivity always brightens the atmosphere. This is Christine. Christine, this is Leah, she's the general manager of the Forks branch. She also comes over here when I'm out of town on business or if I'm working at another branch and need some back up. Seth has exams coming up so he begged and pleaded for the day off."

He watched the teen as she wandered over to the counter to fill out the mountain of forms. "Leah, I am going to be working with her in the sense of... anger management. Don't worry, I know you can't possibly contribute in that department." Jacob let out a quick chuckle at the underhanded joke before he went on. "But I'm guessing she must be feeling pretty alone and all that sad stuff. Being that you're the only other girly wolf, maybe you could be a mentor of sorts to the girl? She just moved to the Res and changed from public school. At least when we all had to make the change we didn't have to bother with any other major changes in our lives. And plus, Renesmee has been acting strange lately. I think there is something up with the leeches but she won't tell me." Covertly, he stole a glance at the teen who was making her way through the paper work rather faster than he'd hoped. "But yea, maybe after I spend some time with Christine tonight you and Seth can meet up with me and we could go investigate what's happening at the Cullen residence -"

There's only three people in the store and then the interview itself should only talk about 10 minutes so I doubt we'll lose any business. If Seth were here we wouldn't have to close the doors but what can I say. I know how hard college can be.

Leah rolled her eyes. "You need to learn not to give in to that little idiot. He can study and work." She scoffed and walked towards where Jacob was standing. "Don't let him have any luxuries." Despite speaking badly of her brother, she really did adore him. But it was only fair that she bothered Jacob about this. After all, if she managed to work the entire time she was in college he could do it to.

A rather incredulous look was directed at Christine and a short moment later, Leah was once again looking the girl up and down. This little girl was intending to kick Seth's butt? As if that was likely. "You...beat up my little brother?" She laughed out loud at that. "How about you just stick to playing mechanic and leave picking on Seth to someone who actually can do it? Namely, me." Though, Leah thought that it would probably be amusing to try to see the girl do anything to Seth. She was probably even too small in her wolf form to spark any sort of fear in anyone.

Her attention was held momentarily as Christine spoke about her "project". "Eighty-nine Camaro? Not bad." She gave a little nod back towards the door. "That thing sitting out there doesn't deserve to be compared to a Camaro. Everyone knows Mustangs might look good, but when it really comes down to it...they suck. You should retire it once you've got the Camaro up and running."

She gave a little nod when Jacob spoke to her again. Help out with the interview? Sure, why not. Though, she couldn't quite guarantee that she would be impartial. It was rather unfortunate, because she and Christine were two of a kind, but Leah already felt some sort of dislike for the other wolf girl. Maybe she had gotten so used to being the only one.

She was pulled out of her thoughts when Christine, who clearly had some sort of attention issue, came over to them with a ring. Her eyes darted to Jacob as she recalled his mentioning of Renesmee only a few minutes earlier. "Issues with the vampire spawn, Jacob?" She looked at the piece of jewelry again. She doubted the Loch Ness creature would wear that, though. It didn't look nearly expensive enough for her tastes. Despite that, the question still needed to be brought up.

"Oh Leah, I know you worked and did college at the same time. Me too, there's no way my dad could pay for everything himself. However, I want things to be easier on Seth. It's most important to me that he becomes self sustaining too."

"Hah. Be careful little girl. Leah can get pretty fierce, plus she's really protective over her little brother." Jacob smiled warmly at the playful banter. "Besides, I wouldn't want you getting seriously injured over simple horseplay. Leave the rough housing for the big kids darlin'."

'Oh God, Leah's getting catty again. I better emulsify this atmosphere or this will turn into one black nasty oil spill.'

"Hey hey! Leah be nice. She's doing a pretty good job for a youngin'. Though I agree with the Camaro over Mustang viewpoint, let's not make wanton insults over the girls 'baby'." Jacob rubbed his chin pensively as he tried to choose his words carefully. "Besides, if Christine spends a lot of time sharpening her skills, she'll get into much better things than a Camaro. Aint that right kiddo?"

Casually, Jacob ignored any and all of Christine's comments about vampires. If she didn't know, he really didn't feel like being the one to clue her in. Not to mention that now wasn't the correct time or place.

"Um, yea it stinks because I think Seth pulled it out of the visitor bathroom toilette a week ago. When it vanished I assumed that someone had claimed it but I guess it just got lost because nobody wanted to touch it. Fair enough, we'll just conceal the stench in a plastic baggy and keep it in the drawer by the register in case anyone comes for it."

Leah shot a glare in Jacob's direction before shrugging. "Just saying... If she's going to call something her baby it should be something better than a mustang." Be nice, huh? Everyone should be used to her being such a bitch, after all it's nearly all the other wolves in the pack thought about her years ago when they were all fighting against the...vampire situation. Her eyes turned to Christine. But this girl didn't seem to know much- or anything- about that. Maybe she should lighten up on the attitude?

...Damn Jacob Black for making her want to listen when he didn't even make an alpha command. And she might have given in and done what he wanted, that is until he spoke again.

Leah visibly stiffened. Even though she had been dealing with it for quite some time, she did not like her alpha standing up for that...thing. "You know, Jacob, if I recall correctly, when she was a baby and growing like a freak of nature she didn't want anything but blood. That's not really convincing me that she's human."

Without waiting for a response, she held her hands up. "Never mind, never mind. I'm pretty sure I already know." Did she know nothing about their heritage? It seemed so. She'd probably never even heard the phrase 'cold ones'.

Leah slowly pulled out of her own thoughts and returned her attention to Christine. She shrugged. "Go and have however many chats you'd like to have with him. I'm not his keeper." And if it kept the girl from spilling her secrets to them or telling them whatever it was that high school girls thought important or life threatening, well, all the better.

Jacob rolled his eyes at the open cattiness emanating from the women. 'Jeez, first Renesmee, then Leah and now Christian too. God there must be something up with the moon lately. It's because NASA bombed it, the shift in gravitational pull must be screwing with their uteruses or something.'

"Okay, fine. Let me just get rid of these customer." He grumbled to himself as he waved the remaining browsers over to the register and rung them up. 'Can't believe these women, bitching me around in my own business. This is what happens when you let them read.'

After he locked the front door and swung the "Open" sign to "Closed," he signaled for the two girls to follow him into his back office. "Okay, so we are just going to ask you a few questions so this should be quick. I'll ask my questions first, and then Leah, you can add to them if you want after she answers ... And, Christian, don't worry about Leah. She greets every newcomer with bitterness, disdain and scorn. Any less would be... against natural order."

"Okay, here's question one. What was your favorite previous work experience and why?"

"How well do you operate under pressure?"

"There is a situation with a very unsatisfied customer and a manager is not available, but you do not know how to solve their problem. Do you make an administrative decision and act with your instincts or do you tell the customer to wait until one of your managers can help them?"

"If there is a customer who insists on insulting you and being rude, do you bite your tongue and smile or do you find some snide way to 'get back at them?'"

"A customer is asking you a question that you don't know the answer to. However, you are the only one in the store front, and Leah or I am in the back. What do you do?"

Maybe he wouldn’t think her so bitter if he actually understood what had happened to her- oh wait, but he did. Unfortunately, unlike Jacob, Leah wasn’t so lucky as to have her ex have a supernatural misfit of a child that she could marry.

But that was enough of those thoughts. Leah had worked very hard to get to the point where thinking about what had happened with Sam didn’t bother her enough to make her shift and she didn’t need a regression. So, she was bitter. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t done her best to move on. However, fears of imprinting always stopped her from getting too attached. Not like she even knew if female wolves could imprint, much like how she didn’t know much of anything about female wolves as she was the only one.

Her eyes shot sharply to Christine.

Well, she had been the only one.

And now it was time to actually pay attention to what Jacob and Christine were saying. He wanted her help, didn’t he? She crossed her arms and watched Christine, rather expressionless- though she really couldn’t help the occasional eye roll.

Leah’s face fell so quickly when Christine answered Jacob’s first question. Can you say ‘rambler’? The girl needed to grow up and learn what and what not to say in an interview. But that wouldn’t earn any sort of response from Leah save for an additional roll of her eyes.

The answer that followed that required Leah to turn away from Christine and carefully disguise a fit of laughter with coughs. Cheerleading? Really? Oh, it must have been so difficult. Far more difficult than any high stress situations Leah had found herself in, clearly. Fighting vampires and such.

"Easy does it Leah. But, Christine, she does have a point. You should never leave the store front unattended. If you do, forget about grabbing merchandise, the customer could go after the register." Jacob did his best to put on his stern face, though he found it hard to truly be tough on the girl.

"As far as you having no formal job experience I have one last question. Why should I hire you? This is your chance to sell yourself. Convince me why you'd be an asset to our team?" Serenely, Jacob slowly settled himself in a nearby office chair. He knew he was going to hire the girl anyway, but she at least deserved to squirm like he did for his first job interview. 'Besides, if she proves to be a nuisance, I won't waste a second before I sit the Engels down and tell them why I'm letting her go. But - hopefully it won't come to that. Leah seems to... hate her already but I'm sure they'll bond or what ever once they get to know each other. Plus, she seems to like playing with Seth, so I doubt she'll disrupt the flow of the place'.

Just as Jacob were waiting patiently for Christine's answer, he noticed his phone vibrating in his pocket. 'Renesme?!?' Hastily he shoved his paw into his pocket to reveal a blackberry shrouded in a leather case. In the hopes of excusing his rudeness, he figured he ought to acknowledge the two other women in the room before he proceeded to check his phone.

"Oh, excuse me guys, you can continue Christine. I'm listening. I just really need to check this text message - it's sort of an emergency."

Finally, the long awaited contact from Ness had arrived. In the form of a text message of course. It read: Jakey. I'm sorry we kind of fought. I've just been really stressed out. There's another implication with my family. I need you to support me here, but I just can't tell you everything... but it involved Jasper.

Jacob blinked at his phone. God only knew what the hell that meant. Now, all sorts of thoughts were racing through his mind. 'Is he hurt? Is Alice okay? Did he have an implication with the Volturi? Could it be the Syndicate? God, did he om nom a human??? Jacob felt his eyebrow arch incredulously at that last thought. 'Noooooooooo!' Regardless, this had gone on for far too long. Renesmee was brainwashed by that ass hole father of hers. Edward was even keeping Seth in the dark as far as what was going on. Seth had mentioned that he sensed things were uneasy with the 'sparkling ones' the last time he'd been over. If he really wanted info there was was only person he could get it out of. Bella, of course.

Jacob felt a chill rush down his spine at the thought of his mother in law. No, she wasn't the typical nagging mother in law who insisted on sticking her nose into every aspect of their married life. But saying that he and Bella had a bit of a history was, well, an understatement. He'd have to seriously swallow the pride pill if he was going to saddle up to her and play the "hey best friends tell each other everything..." card. Which, quite frankly, was exactly what he'd have to do.

Leah could feel a headache coming on. If Christine was grating on her nerves already, she oculd only imagine how she'd feel weeks from now if Jacob hired the kid. Well, when he hired the girl because, if she could learn how to control that mouth of hers, he was surely going to hire her. The store needed someone besides Jacob or Seth to be around consistently.

Quote:
"I guess there is no reason for you to hire me at all besides the fact you need someone who is actually somewhat intellegent on cars."
Did she really think that Jacob was going to let her anywhere near cars anytime soon? He wouldn't take her at her word that she was good with cars. She needed to prove that she wouldn't be destroying his customers' cars. Her headache felt as if it had doubled in strength when Christine continued talking. She just barely contained a groan of annoyance. Little miss cheerleader talking about how she's different, how she's an outcast. It was ridiculous and absolutely the reason Leah was beyond glad that high school was so far behind her. As she had previously, she had been ready to brush off whatever Christine said with a roll of her eyes until the girl spoke directly against her.

Quote:
"And I want you to know that rolling eyes and huffing around like a bitter ex you should think about looking on the bright side. At least you have family that cares about you, that you are beautiful, and other things you don't take into consideration."
Leah was unbelievably still for the first few moments until she visibly bristled and, all but, snarled at Christine, "You need to learn not to talk about things you don't understand, little girl." She took a few steps closer to her. "You might hear Jacob or even Seth say I'm bitter, but I swear if that comes out of your mouth again..." She closed her eyes and took a calming breath before walking back over to Jacob. "Oh, and let me tell you something about my-" She stopped suddenly and turned to glare at Christine. Her hands clenched into fists and she took another deep breath.

This wasn't like her. She didn't let annoying little girls bother her this much. She just could not stand Christine acting like she actually knew anything about her life. As she stood there, she could feel something familiar pulling at her insides. "Think we can speed this all up, Black? I need to go for a drive." No where in particular. She just needed to be speeding down the roads around the Reservation before she said or did something stupid. She leaned close to him and spoke quietly, "Please tell me you're not this desperate for help at this place."

She turned and faced Christine again. "Look. I don't think you're quite what we're looking for. Unfortunately, Jacob owns the place and it's his decision."

Jacob pursed his lips in a joking manner and glanced down at the girl like an old woman looking over her spectacles. Well young lady, I don't really know about how much you need to be intelligent about cars. You have to be intelligent in general, yes. But, more likely, if you can familiarize yourself with car parts and our merchandise that would be great. If someone comes in saying they need new brake pads, then I would expect you to know where they are, what the differences are between the brands, and people like to get recommendations before they decide on a particular product. That's what would be expected of you. You don't have to worry about working on cars right away. As I've said, if you show promise, we will fund professional training courses for you so you can get certified and working on cars. But that's all in the future anyway.

Jacob felt his eyebrow arch dramatically as the teen began to pour open her heart. 'Not quite sure when I signed up for this... but let's see what the final point is. I don't remember calling her an idiot...it wouldn't make sense for me to hire someone whom I openly thought was an idiot.' Jacob would have liked to interject, but she continued on.

Jacob stared blank faced at the two women in the room. Cautiously his eyes shifted from Leah to Christine and back to Leah. This was crossing dangerously into the realm of female drama... rather rapidly. Jacob got used to being Leah's favorite target for harassment, but beneath the surface the two were actually really close. She was the only person in the pack who could ever relate to how he was feeling and what he was going through with Bella. On top of that, when he broke away from Sam and formed his own pack, Leah was the last person he expected to have his back.

But Christine, blood related or not, was in no position to call Leah bitter and live. This was starting to look like a very very bad idea. He had enough drama going on with his wife, the last thing he needed was a disturbance in both his pack and his business.

See, Jacob would have liked to calm Leah, hire the girl and end this caustic nightmare right before Leah shifted and killed someone... but he didn't get the chance.

Jacob let out an exasperated sigh as the girl rushed out of the door and made herself scarce. "Okay Leah... I know you're going to want to kill me but I promised her father I'd give her a chance. I had no idea she was gonna turn out like some super emotional..." Jacob looked up at Leah with pleading eyes, hoping to garner some sort of sympathy from her. "teenager? She must be super emotional since she just recently started changing. We all were. Please just bare with her. I’m not going to hire her, but I think I’m still going to try and give her some coaching on the side. If she really can’t stand things with us, she’ll probably end up in Sam’s pack instead."

Dealing with an angry Leah was like walking on eggshells. He wanted to fix things with the distressed teen, but he needed to make sure things were clear with Leah first. He didn’t want to cone off as some hot head that spent his spare time bullying teen-agers. On the other hand, she seriously offended Leah, so he had to make sure she knew he was on her side. Otherwise there would be hell to pay. Anxiously he bit at his lower lip as he rubbed her small doll like hands in his. He waited a moment to read her response, hoping she understood his situation and was willing to forgive him, and her cousin.

Slowly he felt his brilliant smile sneak onto his face as he delivered what he hoped was good news. "You can take the day off. Just meet me at my house at five-o-clock. I’m closing shop today at 3:00. We can go over what we’re doing tonight… and maybe we can stop by a local sports bar and grab a few drinks? Blow off some steam? I'm sure I can manage re-opening by myself for the rest of the day. I just need to make a few calls and straighten things out with the Engels." Jacob almost turned away before he doubled back and stared back at her. "And Leah, thanks."

-------------------------------------------------

Briskly, Jacob walked over to his desk and grabbed the phone. He felt like some teacher calling up Christine's father. He might have matured from becoming a business mogul, but he still felt ridiculous because, well his body was forever 17, and so was part of his mind. Plus, people never liked hearing unpleasant news about their children. He was going to have to sugar coat this to keep the conversation pleasant.

Jacob: "Hello [Insert first name of Christian's Father]? So I interviewed your girl today."
"Yea, she's a witty one!"
"Well, of course she has promise. mmm hmmm."
"She couldn't really take Leah though. You know how Leah is. I'm sure she didn't really mean anything. But Christine got pretty upset. I'm worried. I have to mind the shop but you should probably send someone to go look for her. Maybe the job will work out next year. After she’s adapted to the change, I think all of these new circumstances plus work PLUS dealing with Leah might be too much for her right now."
"Yea, I understand. No Problem. Tell her to come in bright and early two days from now on Tuesday to get her car part. It’s on the house. The least I can do."

After hanging up the phone, Jacob sent a text to Seth to meet him at his house at 9:00. He gave him a later time than he told Leah because he was hoping to spend some time alone with her. Leah has always, in her own strange way, been there for him. It was rare that someone had the nerve to insult Leah to her face. Somehow, not being the source of the harassment made him… uneasy. Solemnly he stuffed his phone into his pocket and headed out of his office to reopen his shop. The day had already been as easy as swallowing broken glass. The fact that he'd be closing early today was of little consolation to the fact that he'd have to under go a co-op mission to spy on the leeches this evening.

Leah could not believe what she was seeing and hearing. Incredulous was an understatement, but it was the closest thing to describe what she was feeling right then. The fact that she found the entire situation utterly ridiculous had already calmed her down a little, but that didn’t mean that she was pleased that Christine was now out of the store. Now, Leah was no longer in danger of killing someone if she snapped and shifted right there.

Quote:
"Okay Leah... I know you're going to want to kill me but I promised her father I'd give her a chance. I had no idea she was gonna turn out like some super emotional...teenager?"
Her eyes narrowed slightly. She didn’t believe that it could be blamed on being a teenager, perhaps being clinically insane, but…that wasn’t a teenager. And, well, if it was then Leah felt she had quite a lot of apologizing to do to her mother. “I wasn’t like that when I was a teenager,” she mumbled. And when she was a horrible person, the bitter bitch that the pack had come to somewhat despise being around? Well, she had had a much better reason than simply being a teenager.

She had been caught up in those thoughts when she felt something on her hand. What the…? Her eyes darted to the appendage and, when she realized what it was, she glared at Jacob’s hand. What in the world was he doing? A roll of her eyes followed and she looked at him with a quirked brow. God, he was such a sap. She’d noticed this incredibly curious, and often amusing, personality trait of his quite a few times before. It was only getting worse as the years went by. First time, of course, was when she joined his pack. The kid practically cried. At least, in her semi-warped memory he did. Of course, he had been rather…erm, emotional the entire time considering that Bella dropped him for that leech. Now, Leah was not sitting around at Jacob Black fan club meetings (which, she was almost positive, actually existed) and admiring his “sculpted body”- she could barely get through the thought without laughing- but she had to admit that, even ignoring the fact that Edward was a leech, Jacob was far more attractive than him.

Leah’s eyes narrowed. But that was entirely not the matter at hand. Jacob was still caressing her hand and telling her just to bear with Christine. “Fine. I won’t kill the girl. I’ll help you handle her craziness. Whatever. Just at long as you stop molesting my hand.” She rolled her eyes again and brushed away his thanks. “I’ll see you in a couple hours.” Be over to his house by five? Great. It gave her enough time to speed in her car and on foot- well...paw. Hopefully she wouldn’t run into the girl while she was out. She had gotten halfway to the door when she finally realized what Jacob had said.

"We can go over what we’re doing tonight… and maybe we can stop by a local sports bar and grab a few drinks? Blow off some steam?"
She quirked a brow and only just managed to keep from laughing. Drinks? Now, this wasn't quite like the Jacob she knew, but then again she'd barely been around her alpha in a long time. After all, he spent far too much time with those leeches. She turned around slowly. "Asking me out for drinks, Black? Be careful, people might think things." Now, she did laugh. "But, joking aside..." she sighed, "that sounds good. A drink would be good." Just as she was about to head towards the door again, she added, "God, I hope they card you, kid. It'll make the night perfect." And with that, not waiting for any sort of reply from Jacob, she left.

"And Leah, thanks."

Somehow Leah's words were very exciting to Jacob. Not really her worrying about gossip, but what the gossip would be about. He could only think of the things he'd love to do in order to earn such gossip. Shaking his head, he welcomed the smile that formed across his lips as a direct reaction to her laughter.

'Renesme is really messing me up. What with the fighting and the general lack of interest, we haven't been meeting each others needs. It's obvious I'm out of it when I start fantasizing about Leah of all people.'

Jacob watched her leave his office and saunter off to her car. Without restraint, his gaze sank down from the back of her head to the small of her back and rested at the curves of her hips.

'Of course it don't help none that Leah is a rather... attractive pack member. The moment we shift she'll know all of the dirty things that have wriggled into my mind today. GOSH but it's not even my fault! I am being neglected!!!' Jacob let out a depressed sight with that thought.'It's definitely because of the stress. All of this drama with that kid and now my wife doesn't even call me family? Surely once I get down to the bottom of what's going on with the leeches things will calm down - and heat up at home. For now I just need to keep my head clear for tonight. The last thing I need is for Leah to... suspect that my involuntary passes are more fantasies than they are jokes.'

His omnipresent high temperature rose as he tried to compose himself. If she, for any reason, got back out of her car and re-entered the store he would be totally busted. With just one look at him she’d know exactly what was running through that twisted mind of his. Nobody knew him like Leah did. Sure, Renesmee understood him (or at least he thought she did) but Leah knew him.

------------------------------------- Several Hours Later

Jacob felt a slight tremble in his hands as he turned they key in the door to lock his shop. Something was making him anxious – and it wasn’t what ever the leeches were up to. Hell, it wasn’t even his fighting wife. ’Pull yourself together Jake; it’s just a drink with Leah. She’s like the least sexual being on the face of the earth. It’s not like anything’s gonna happen…’

With a shake of his head, Jacob slid into his car and sped off to his suburban home just off the reservation. Eagerly, his eyes scanned the driveway for Nessie’s car. She never came home. Jacob felt his heart fall as he parked his car in the shade. Angrily he checked his phone yet again to find it devoid of messages from his wife. At times like this, he seriously questioned if he belonged with her. A marriage was supposed to be a partnership, but with Renesmee their relationship felt like a dictatorship – one ran by Edward Cullen.

Pain threaded its way through his back as he ripped his shirt off, exposing his ripped abs. He’d been running quite a bit lately to deal with the stress from his struggling marriage, but nights ravaged with worries and fear left him sleepless. The stress of everything was becoming unbearable and his mind kept resting on escape. He needed some sort of release though he couldn’t figure out what it was.

After a quick shower he felt like wearing something comfortable. He went with the classic elements of his casual style. Methodically he selected faded denim jeans, a tight black wife beater and a white shirt, which he lazily left unbuttoned. Before he left his room, he noticed the bottle of cologne sitting on his dresser that he never wore. He let it stare at him for about a second or two before he gave in and put just a little bit on.

Jacob sat behind the wheel of his BMW and headed for the highway. He was heading for ‘The Crows Nest.” It was his favorite bar in Port Angeles. Tonight was the poetry open mic. It usually started at around 6:00. He was looking forward to the soothing surroundings of jazz and candlelight. It was 4:45, he’d have a good amount of time to talk with Leah before they had to meet up with Seth at his house at 8:00. On the way to park Jacob spotted a small florist he hadn’t noticed before out of the corner of his eye. He was there early and figured it wouldn’t hurt to get a few roses for the lady. ’I should probably have something for her anyway. Considering that today was frustrating. I know that kid must have hit a nerve with her. I’m only trying to be appreciative of all of the help Leah’s given me these past couple of years…’

The atmosphere in the bar was nice. ‘Love’ by Musiq Soulchild was playing in the background. With a brisk nod to the owner, Jacob headed straight for his favorite booth in the corner. It wouldn’t be long before Leah got there, but today was… a hard day. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he let the smooth beat put his mind at ease.
