I'm not sure if you've been asked this question before, but why? Why do you read?
Is it an escape from a dull life? Or an escape from a too busy one? Is it a creative inspiration? Or are you forced to read by boredom? Tell me.

I read because it's fun. It's fun to see the different worlds that people create and fun to see the different characters that people create. It's also a good way to just forget troubles for a little while, to just get away from everything and relax.

I read because I'm trying to do something else than just sit at the computer all day, because I want to learn more information (currently I'm reading Edith Hamilton's Mythology), and because I want to know what the craze is about certain books. Like, I was told Percy Jackson was good, so I went out and read it. My teacher and I were discussing Wicked (choir/drama teacher), so we both went out and bought Wicked. Stuff like that. I also read because I want to finish something. If I read one book in a series, I feel better if I finish the series.

I read for a numerous amount of reasons, I wouldn't be able to list them all here XD First of all I read because I've always loved reading, every since I was at a young age. I've been fascinated by the tales people come up with, and how imaginative the human mind can be. Plus its just fun to escape for a while, especially if I'm having a rough day and just need a break. Another reason would be is that I read because, it gives me something to do other than sit at the computer, it does get tiring after a while! Another reason and the last one I'm going to list, would be because I feel it broadens my vocabulary and expands my mind. I believe that its important to challenge your thought process, and for me reading does that when I think about all the possibilities of what could happen, why a character(s) think a certain way, or choose this way over that way.

I read for several reasons. One I'm a writer so I like reading what others have read to see what interests people. I'm not published but I hope to be someday. Also at the moment my life consists of Homework, College, Work, Sleep, and Food. Usually in that order. Reading with my free time gives me a chance to escape and relax. It's also just an enjoyable pass time when you're not doing anything and just want to escape for a little while.

Well, I myself read because it draws inspiration for my books, gives me a better imagination, and helps me dream. :)

I just love getting absorbed into another world, it's fun to experience things I otherwise would never be able to, plus its fun to see how they think things up, see their style. (I prefer fantasy fiction if you can't tell ;P)

I don't really have a specific reason; I've loved to read ever since I learned how when I was around five or so. Actually, I liked books even before that; I just had to find someone to actually read them to me.

I also enjoy writing, and I highly doubt that I would be as good at it as I am if it wasn't for how much I've read.

And I do tend to get bored quite a lot, so I suppose that's at least part of it, or at least why I read as much as I do. In the summertime I have basically nothing whatsoever to do for almost all of the time, so I spend a lot of my time reading. I also tend to get done with everything at school before most of my classmates, so I get a lot of extra time during classes to read. I'm also a very quiet person, especially at school, and I'd pretty much end up just sitting there doing nothing if it wasn't for my books.

I read because it's easy to put down and pick back up where you left off. At my job, sometimes we're really really busy and sometimes it's extremely slow, and these changes can occur between morning and afternoon. Therefore it's nice to have something to do during the down time that I can easily set down if more work pops up. I also love reading about adventures, travels, fantasy-type fiction in medieval times and such of the like. I like those types of worlds and imagining what it would be like there. I find those the best to fall in to.

Usually I read if I'm really upset to escape reality. No seriously, it's comforting to temporarily leave a world of college essays, family and friends alike demanding things from you, and responsibilities for a world that's full of magic, adventure, and romance. Sometimes I also just want to experience something new, so I read a book to see what it can give me.

I read for many reasons: To learn, to escape reality, to have fun... And Rooh does have a point, reading is very convenient in the when and where you are able to do so. Also, I love the smell of old books. I have several books that are over 50 years old, and a couple over a hundred including a fashion 'magazine' from 1878 and a Victorian era book with Latin text. Just filled with history and interesting things.

When nothing is going right, books can give you a reliable source of inspiration.

Then, I suggest to you Bulfinch's Age of Mythology. Hamilton is good and all, if you want a general summary of the fables. But they're so fluff and childish, that it's hardly worth reading at all. Bulfinch is the first to condense college-level material and make it readable for the masses. He is thorough, and as gory as the tales themselves were meant to be. He has a million and a half resources, and quotes original sources. A must-need for those who are looking deeper into mythology.

I read for escapism (ironically the same reason I go on the computer). I feel that, unless it's required for school or jobs, that is the reason most people read. I continue to read for its breadth, and for it's intelligence. I feel smart when I read, I feel idolized when people assume I'm intelligent from the book I am reading. It is a novelty that is worth doing, a hobby that gives back the time you put into it. Mostly, I enjoy it through all aspects, and almost all genres. I feel older than I am when I open Jane Austen, and younger when I hold Dr. Suess. But, never do I not feel me. It is an honest thing, reading.

I read because it helps me a lot and i learn a lot from reading... I love to read novels, comics and magazine
It's my escape sometimes through reality and with reading i could go through times, places and events without moving on where im really am without spending money at all :D
