Avatar the Last Airbender
M. Night Shyamalan
1 1/2 Stars

Intro

As I enterd the movie doors I was eager to see Avatar the Last Airbender. My heart was racing to get into the theature. I got my popcorn and Reese's Pieces and waited to watch the movie.

The Movie

Then the movie played... I was in pure shock. The movie was horriable! I watched the whole series when it aired on Nickalodeon. The first thing I noticed was they pronunced Aang & Sokka's name wrong. They where Aang like "An" and Sokka like "Soaka" when it's supposed to be pronunced "Ang" & "Socka" M. Night sould've sticked with what the creaters said!!!

Just to tell you the only part I liked about the whole thing was when the princess died.
And that's the most depressing... -_-

The next thing I noticed was that they did a transition from one place to another. So, we where at the Southen Water-tribe and all of a suddon there in an old Air Temple. I was so confussed at this point and didn't want to watch the rest of the movie

Another thing I saw was they skipped out some important parts, but instead put in other stuff that had nothing to do with the movie. At this point into the movie was about to leave it was that boring.

The reason I give it 1 1/2 stars is because of the graphics. The 1/2 is the whole thing in general. I don't reccomend you see this movie.

Since I saw it in 3D I had to pay extra.
There goes $50 (I was also with my family)

What did you think of the movie?

Man I can't agree with you more. I was super excited when I went to watch it with my cousin but the whole time we just kept laughing at how horrible it was. I felt so bad for the Avatar show and had this dire need to watch the original series after I watched the movie.

Well, there was one part I liked in the movie. Whenever they said "Ang" a guy behind me kept yelling "It's AANG!!" I don't remember when I laughed so hard.

They didn't pronounce it wrong. M. Night changed the pronounciations like how they would really be pronounced if the four nations had 100% Asian references, which, in the show, they do.
The original pronounciation is just because America has to mess up any and all translations like how they do with anime. Like Naruto. "NAH-roo-toh" is how it is pronounced in places like Japan/Korea/China. In America, we pronounce it "Nah-ROO-toh" for some strange reason.

EDIT:
By the way, you forgot to mention the new 8 year old, huggable, totally not scary version of Azula.
EDIT: (again)
And Ozai and Zhao's missing beards. (maybe that's why they're so angry. XD )

My girlfriend is the biggest Avatar nerd that I know! I've barely seen any of the series, but we're watching it (again for her) together. I really, really like it a lot. From what I've seen and heard of the movie... I would never give that man my money. What he did... It's like giving someone a giant marble slab. You can really make something amazing out of what you have to work with! What Shamwow (what we call him now) did was pee on the marble slab and built a sandcastle instead. One that had no logic to it at all, so of course it crumbled.

This movie, from what I've heard and seen, was completely off-putting for both fans and for people who had never seen the show. One man even said in his review that, though he didn't know what the show was like, he would never give it a chance after seeing such a horrendous movie. It's not even so bad that it's funny -- it's just plain BAD. Everyone I know said that they left the theater feeling depressed. Multiple people, none of which know each other (and some having never seen the series), all said they left feeling depressed. That's... I don't have words.

Katara lost all power she ever held in the show and was a useless woman who stood there and did nothing and was weak and, well... useless. The only other female that there was any focus on was Yue... who, instead of boldly sacrificing herself for her people on her own decision, was simply told to kill herself to save everyone else. Which she did.

...And... so many characters were cut out, but... they left Haru? Really? :/

Eventually I might see it if I don't have to spend money on it. I'm going to have to be really drunk to hit "play", though.

EDIT:
Oh, yes, and there's definitely a meme going around now about "Ongs -- Ongs everywhere" after what they did with Aang's name. xD Ugh. It's... no. They were named what they were BY THE CREATORS. The way their names were in the show? That was exactly the way the creators wanted them. The only one that bugged me was that they pronounced Mai as "May". I had no other problems with the original names save for that.

i'm so disappointed after reading this.
I haven't had a chance to get out and see it yet, but from what you guys are saying is sounds like it's awful.
I felt a degree of uncertainty when I saw the trailers: something didn't quite feel right to me.

That's been a hige problem with anime-to-live action conversion (and yes, I consider Avatar an anime), a lot of things are lost, and it's not always special effects.

I'm disappointed to hear about Kitara and how useless they made her. In the series she was such a badass and a strong role model, and now it seems like they made her just another useless anime girl (not that all anime girls are useless).

It sounds like it's not 'Avitar; The Last Air Bender' but some sort of bizarre, badly written fanfiction for it.

Avatar has been considered an anime for a while IdulDraculia so don't feel bad for thinking that. And hopefully M. Knight Shamalyan heard all our cries of discontent with the first movie and change the next movie to something good. Toph's in that one so it has to be!!

But.... I'm kinda doubting my own pep talk...

Oh god, I love Toph, but I'm almost afraid of what they're going to do.
I'm not saying all anime to live action is bad, because some of it's pretty good, but it seems like it's slaughtered a lot.
I was really psyched for Avitar, but even people on facebook are saying it was horrible (I guess one of my friends almost got throw out of the theater for yelling at the screen lol).

I hope they do a better job next time. I might rent it when it comes out, though, just to see if it is horrible fail like a lot of people are saying.

I don't think I've heard one good thing about Shyamalan's work with Avatar, I wanted to see it but all the feedback says it's not worth it XD

That's kind of what I'm running into, as well.
My sister just went and saw it and said they pull all the good scenes in the trailers.

All this makes me so sad...I have loved the Avatar series since the first episode of it they had played on Nick and as soon as I seen the preview for The Last Air Bender I was just estatic...I havent seen the movie for myself because I havent heard one good thing about it. Other than the graphics, but that doesnt even mean anything without a good movie plot and everything.

A part of me still really wants to see the movie just so I can see for myself that M knight really screwed it up that badly because I almost cant believe it could be messed up like everyone says, but the other part of me just doesnt want to sit through the disappointment. D;

Me too. i watched it when it was on Nick (before I was even aware of anime lol) and I was sooo excited when i heard they were making a live action.

I love M Night's movies, but that's another reason why I don't want to go see it. Like you, I'm not sure I could sit through the disappointment.

That's because most languages stress the second syllable of words, English included. :)

As for Avatar, everyone that saw it said it was atrocious. It's really a shame because I think it could have been a great movie. ;_____;

When I saw the movie it was the day after I got back from a study group in Europe. That meant I was working off of no sleep anyway AND my clock was all off. It didn't matter though I HAD to see it at Midnight. So I went. Not even ten minutes into the movie I was done with it. In my exaustion and utter annoyance I decided to make my own 'riff tracks'. My friend and I commented on the entire movie from a critical, yet humerous perspective. We were THANKED for making the movie more entertaining.

Ill admit I didnt like the pronunciation of the names (oh and for the b.s. about making the movie more cultural, they kind of needed to have cultural actors to justify changing the names from the series it was absed after. After all the show IS american. so its not like Naruto in pronunciation. WE made it up.) but when everyone in the theatre kept correcting it I FREAKED OUT during the princesses death and someone says Sokka's name. I was DONE. I scream at my friend right in the middle of the really intense scene.

I saw The Last Airbender the day it came out in theaters and I'm glad that I went to see it. Not because I liked it, no, no, no. I hated the lack of character interactions. Aang and Katara had more going on between them after the first episode of the series than they did in this entire movie. ANYWAY. I'm glad that I went, for closure (and movie theater popcorn). Otherwise, I would be constantly wondering and all that stuff. Reading reviews just doesn't do it for me.

I was excited to see Avatar (even wore a copy of Katara's necklace) but I was so disappointed.
There were so many extra moves in the bending and it just didn't look right.
There was also the way they revealed the character's backstories (Hey little boy, tell me about myself. / My grandma would ask why you had white hair.)
And there was the lack of King Bumi, who's kinda important you know. xD

I ranted to my friends during the entire car ride home. Bu despite all of this, I'm still going to go see the second movie, should it come out, just to see if they do any better.

Hah I went to see it with my sister. She is a HUGE avatar fan. and even befor we saw the movie she could tell they would mess some stuff up but when we actually saw it she was horrified. They messed up the whole movie to her. from the pronunciation to the characters personality. Not to menyion that they left out a bunch of characters and skipped some very important parts. She was ranting the whole time after we saw it and everytime you mention the last airbender she goes right back in the rant. She was furious and now curses M.Night Shymalyans name.

I was pissed it was so bad the names were wrong the story was wrong and wtf was up with the firebenders not being able to create their own fire?! Horrible acting too! URG it pissed me off!!
