((WOOTWOOTWOOTWOOT))
*coughs and assumes loud booming voice that she doesn't actually have which is comparable to those guys in TV commercials*
Once upon a time (in 1776, actually) there were two men. Well, they both had wives and were content with their respective ladies. But sometimes they felt like something was missing from their lives...
There was a conflict going on, though, between the colonies in which they lived and England, their mother country. So, as both were involved in politics, they were both called to Philadelphia to attend the Continental Congress.
As they saw each other for the first time...nothing happened. But when they were given the job of writing a Declaration of the colonies' Independence...

"Jefferson! Haven't you finished yet?" The loud, obnoxious voice belonged to none other than John Adams. The man pushing for independence. The slightly short man bangs on Thomas Jefferson's door. "Jefferson! I know you're in there! Open up!"

"Wha...?" Thomas Jefferson opened his bleary eyes. He looked down at the parchment [[they did that, I think?]] that he had been writing on at some point. It was crinkled and there was a slight spot of drool on the corner. "Oh well, this attempt was a failure like all the others," he thought, and promptly crumpled the paper and deposited it in the wastebasket next to his desk. He had nearly fallen asleep trying to think of the correct words to state the colonies' plight. It was an enormous responsibility, after all, and Thomas knew it had to be perfect. He heard more banging, then remembered why he had gotten up in the first place. "Oh, it's Adams, " he thought, unhappily. "He must be the most impatient man on the planet."
"I'm coming!" he shouted, then made his way to the door and opened it.

"Jefferson. I've been knocking for nearly an hour! What in God's name were you doing?!" Adams stares up at Jefferson, being only about half his height. He looks annoyed. "Are you going to let me in or are you just going to stand there, staring at me?"

"My apologies, Mr. Adams. Do come in," Thomas said, and stepped aside. He had the urge to bite his lip as he looked around and took in the complete and utter disaster the room had become while he was trying (and failing) to find the correct words. "Adams will not be pleased by the fact that I have not accomplished anything," he thought. "I've been attempting to write this blasted document, of course, Mr. Adams," he told the smaller man.

"And have you completed it, Jefferson?" Adams looks around the room and frowns. "Can't you manage to keep yourself clean, Jefferson?" He cocks an eyebrow as he says this.

"No, Mr. Adams," Thomas sighed. "The words are simply failing me." He walked over to his wastebasket and picked out a crumpled parchment at random. "Look at this, Mr. Adams. This is shit ((or something to that effect)). This is the most important document I have ever written and I cannot get it wrong!"

(Hello. XD Go check my comment on the Demon Barber rp, while I respond to this.)
"Words never seemed to fail you before, and you seems to be having overflowing self-esteem," Adams retorts, snidely. He also goes over to the waste basket and pulls something out. he scans it. "...You're right. This is bad." He rubs his temples. "Look. This shouldn't be hard for you. Just write!"

"Overflowing self-esteem!" he thinks, "that's not true! I'm usually fairly confident in my writing abilities, but to be nearly calling me an egotist! The nerve of that John Adams! He is so agitating!" Thomas is obviously beginning to anger, aided by his frustration at lack of success in penning this document. He tries to maintain a calm face, though, as to not show Adams that he has been irking him greatly. "But what do I write? We are the people of the United States, and we have grievances! We are unhappy! That is what I'm attempting to convey, is it not? I have spent hours sitting here, discarding the most worthless failures to ever protrude from my pen!" As Thomas is complaining, he gets louder and by the end of his small rant, he is redder in the face and breathing slightly harder than normal.

Adams stares at Jefferson as he rants, looking slightly amused. "Put our grievances into words, Jefferson. Really, make a list if you must. Actually, start with a list, it'll make this all easier. " He scratches his head. "Also, learn to control your temper."

Thomas frowns. Although Adams amused is a good thing, Adams amused at his expense is, in fact, emphatically not pleasant. Yes, he knows he has to control his temper, but... "Then stop being so unpleasant!" he retorts, not really thinking about his silly his words sound until afterwards. Adams has this effect on people. Well, on him. Thomas doesn't understand it. "Damn Adams," he thinks.
Then again, the list is a good idea. An extremely good idea. "Well, he has refused to assent to laws that are necessary for the good of the people, for one," he says, to nobody in particular. "Also...he has refused to allow anyone to pass laws unless he gives assent..." he trails off and stops frowning, his mind working frantically from this new angle. "Damn Adams," he thinks, again, "...for being right."

Adams chuckles at Jefferson. "I'm always unpleasant. And see, I was right." He has a bit of a smug look on his face, and it's in his voice as well. He seems to notice the effect he's having on Thomas and is intrigued by it.

Thomas frowns again. Really, it seems that around Adams, all Thomas can do is frown. The man just makes him so angry. He is so self-righteous and arrogant. It's absolutely unacceptable. "But of course. You're obnoxious and I don't like you," he says, wondering if it's actually true. He wishes Adams would shed the smug look and demeanor; it's terribly grating and there are better uses of their time and energy. He just doesn't know what to do to make the man be nicer to him. Of course, Adams probably thinks that just because he's seven years older, he's infinitely wiser than Thomas. How infuriating.

"No one likes me, remember? That's why you're writing this." He shrugs, looking sheepish. "But at least it's being written well. Imagine if we gave Lee the job." He shudders at the thought. "It'd be terrible."
(Poor Lee. XD)

Thomas nods, and then laughs. "Quite. I've often wondered whether that man can construct a sentence without using an adverb--correctly or otherwise," he says. Then he realizes that Adams has just given him a compliment of sorts, but he doesn't really know what to say to him. Should he acknowledge it? Did Adams even mean to praise his writing? Also, he should probably contemplate why Adams has suddenly made him happy, considering he was just angry at the man moment ago. "How infuriating," he thinks again.
(Yeah...Well, no, I never liked him anyway. :3 He's too like-able.)

Adams chuckles. "I highly doubt it. That man is too...cheerful for his own good." He watches Jefferson's reactions, puzzled. 'Has the man never been complineted or something?' he wonders.

"Quite," Thomas says, aware that Adams is watching him. Then he decides that Adams was, in fact, aware of the compliment, smiles, and says, "thank you." He rummages around for a fresh piece of parchment. "We, the People..." he murmurs, starting to write while looking, inconspicuously, at Adams. Well, he hopes it is inconspicuous, as he doesn't want Adams to say anything about it.

"That's a good start. He does need to know who's addressing him." He chuckles and settles himself in a chair, content to watch Jefferson write. He does have to make sure it's right, after all. He wonders for a moment why he's lying to himself. He knows why he's keeping his feelings from Jefferson, that's obvious, but lying to himself?

"Yes, but no..." Thomas trails off. That doesn't sound right at all, because they're technically British people. "We...hold these truths to...." he mumbles, still writing. "Maybe...sometimes it is necessary, in the course of...events...to...dissolve political bonds, and..." He reaches for a new parchment, starting there, and notices that Adams is still sitting there, watching him. He's not sure how he feels about that. He has a lovely wife, after all, but... he's not sure where he's going with this and refocuses on the important Declaration he must write.
