Does any one know/have a name that they hate or is absolutely annoying? Or a strange/difficult one that people misspell and/or mispronounce?

I go by 'Shel' and it gets spelled a so many different ways... Shell, Chel, Chelle, Chell, Shelle, ect.... It's ridiculous 'cause it's four letters!

@ - @ Why can't people get names right? I also get called 'Michelle' and 'Shelly' when my name is 'Shelby'... Yes, like the car. :D Tis why I go by Shel.

So... Annoying Names! :D GO!

Welllll, I wouldnt say I hated my name. But I do find it annoying that no one can ever spell it right. My name is Autumn, and that sounds fairly simple right?

Wrong.

Apparently a name thats almost always on the calendars, a proper noun, a freaking COMMON season, is hard to spell. I see it spelled incorrectly all the time, and its a massive pet peeve. I often see it spelled at "Autumn" "Autom" or some other bastardized version that makes no sense. And not only can people NOT spell my name, they always call me the wrong name too. I'm often called "Amber", which gives me this sort of prejudice against Ambers because I hate being called that name. Really aggravates me, but I've been called Summer before, Spring, August, Heather, and Ambrosia. I know, right? Ugh. -.-

Hmm, my name is pretty simple, but everyone spells it wrong the first time, or adds an L to the middle. My name is Cara, So people spell it Kara, or say it Carla.

My name's Ashley, and I've had my friends or others spell it like "Ashly" or even "Ashely". It's two syllables people, not three. C'mon now.

My name is Marissa. I love my name, but it's a pain.
I've been called Marla, Marissia, Mariss, and no. none of those were nicknames. -.- Just people being hard at hearing.
There are only 2 ways (so far) to misspell it, though. MarRissa, and MariSa. It's one R, two S people. My name isn't Murrisa. That's what it sounds like with two rs. >.>

This girl at the daycare center is named Shirley but she spells it as Shierlly o.0

Her parents spelled her name wrong when she was born, I swear. Also what a weird name for a kid.. It's an old woman's nickname for Sharla or something, isn't it?

Also my name is Katie, and people sometimes can't get that right.
Ex: Katey, Katy, Catie, Kady, Kadie... etc.

Marissa is my name, but I'm often called Melissa or Karessa or something else similar to it. Often spelled incorrectly, as well. Marisa, Marrissa, Marrisa, similar to that. But I don't really mind it, either. I'm often called Missy by old school mates, and close friends. They overheard my grandmother call me that when I was in sixth grade, and it stuck ever since.

I remember when I lived in Madison for a year, in fifth grade. There was a girl named Kacey, a good friend of mine. And we had a substitute once, who asked everyone their name to introduce. Kacey said her name, and the teacher got SO upset "No abbreviations, I want your full name!" They went at it for ten minutes before the substitute realized her name was KACEY, not K.C. I thought it was hilarious

That's like a boy at my school whose name is Jordy, not Jordan, Jordy. Teachers always called him Jordan when they were angry with him (often) and he'd go off at them about getting his name wrong.

Kathryn.

Everyone spells it Cathrine or Kathrine or Cathryn. NO ONE SPELLS IT THE WAY I SPELL IT AGH! It pisses me off when they look at me when I start to spell it, like they are like "That's not how you spell that name". It is. It's one of the ways.

I'm actually quite lucky - I've never met anyone who has absolutely totally consistently effed my name to pieces. It's pretty distinctive and hard to get wrong once you've heard it once.

However, I HAVE been called at certain intervals "Astro," "Asterix..." and nicknames like "Assy" and just plain "Ass." XD I don't begrudge people for it, though. I'm pretty comfortable with myself and my name, so it doesn't bother me.

I felt really sorry for a girl who was in my class when we were like 10, though. Her name was "Sinead" (pronounced Shin - aid), and the teacher calling the register pronounced it "Sin Head." Perfect way to start off your first day, huh? =[ The kids in my class were pretty dumb and brutal, too. It killed me to hear them snigger.

Though to be honest, Gaelic names sometimes catch me out, too. I've never quite understood the name Siobahn, for instance. It's meant to be pronounced "Shivorn" ...right...? I've also studied Celtic mythology and history informally, and I don't think I'll ever pronounce most of the names correctly. I tried religiously flicking to the appendix every time I encountered a name for a while, but ended up just going ahead and pronouncing them in my head in my own bastardised way. I'm pretty sure Cuchulainn is the only one I've got down =[

My name is Alisha (pronounced uh-LEE-shuh). I'm cool with my name, and I've gotten used to the constant mispronunciations and misspellings. Alicia, Ashley, Elisha, Elicia, etc... I used to think my name was so unique, and then I moved to Colorado. >.> There are a lot of girls who share my name and they're ALL spelled differently.

My name is Marcy and I get people spelling it "Marcie" or calling me Macy or "Marc" (Mark) a lot. I've started going by my middle name, Rei. Which people still spell wrong. They spell it "Ray" or "Raye", or "Rae". I never thought three letters could be messed up so much.

I don't like the name Geoffry
This guy at work today spells it 'Geoffrie'
and then gets mad that I spelled if 'Jeffrey' when he gave NO indication it was spelled otherwise!
Like fine, okay, sorry for misspelling your name, but don't get all pissy.

This is kind of my contraindication to everyone in this thread, particularly the ones who use "nontraditional" spellings of common names. Someone wanted to be unique with your name, suck it up and deal, since the other spellings have been around a lot longer than you have.

I feel kind of bad for the ones with "normal" names that have gotten caught up in the Katys, Kathryns, etc. of the world.

I don't get frustrated by common misspellings of names, because most "normal" names have a few common variants, and unless you 100% know how a person'a name is spelt you often have to take any educated stab in the dark.

What does bug me is parents who try to be cute by coming up with different ways of spelling a more usual name. The actress who plays Sarah Sidle on CSI, her name is Jorja, doing that makes me cringe because that kind of alternate spelling makes me think of porn star names, but that's just a personal thing.

On a far more personal note, in a Christmas card that I got last year, my own father spelt my name wrong, gee, thanks dad : / Not a simple mistake either, like when you miss a letter by accident, he spelt it completely differently, I did a double take when I saw it and wondered WTF he was thinking. My name is Jackie and he wrote it Jacqui, why? I know we have very little contact, but we never have had a lot of contact, why after 38 years does he forget how to spell my name!

My name has many different spellings as well. I'm CHristina but most people spell it CRistina or KRistina. I don't really get annoyed though, because when I tell people my name I say "Christina, C-H." Although, I get annoyed because people call me Christine A LOT. I don't understand why they can't add that last little "a" to it. I'm not annoyed as often anymore it just amuses me. I've had people, in an email, write "Christine" before.

My daughter's name has three different pronunciations. I call her Me-cai-la but it can be said Me-kay-la or Me-ki-el-la. My mom can't spell it worth beans (Micaela) even though I've told her how to a bunch of times. I think she'll be frustrated when she's older. I saw it in a book and it's the only one me and my ex-husband agreed on. She would have been a Madison if I'd had my way.

@Jelly - Maybe he'd been drinking? That's just crazy!
