Name: Granger
Age: 500ish years.
Personality: Strong. Independent. Forceful. Guarded/
Race: Dragon, earth dragon.
Looks like:

Dragon

Elf

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grange sat against a rock just outside of the town, his gold eyes peering over the place. The humans were scurrying past, headed towards this or that and something that really represented their lives. Did they even know that death was just a step away from them? That they could slip and fall, and that would be it. They would not see another sunrise, another moon coursing over the trees.
What was he doing here? Being foolish, that's what. His bow was strapped to his back, his arrows there as well. Across the ground at his feet was his catch, a fawn that would not see another day. He had become rather morbid in his later years, hadn't he? Morbid and tired...tired...he slunk his head back towards the rock beneath him. His hair, a warm gold in color, brushed across his neck as he looked towards the town again.
Would someone come out after dark? Why was he still sitting there? His nose curled, and a pebble hovered a little next to him...then dropped again. He was tired. What he needed was a new adventure beyond protecting his horde and watching the humans going by like little ants. But what? What would he do? Go to sea? Maybe...
Name: Alice Sapphire
Age: 18
Race: human
Rank: Princess
Alice grinned as she slipped out of her bedroom window. It was late and night and she was bored. She tended to slip out to go hunting on her own after dark when no one would notice her. She put her bow and arrows on her back and climbed down the wall. She ran into the nearby bushes making sure the coast was clear. She made it. Yes... Now to go hunting. She went up the hill towards the wooded area. She noticed a herd of deer and slipping quietly through the bushes climbed quickly up a tree. She fired on arrow causing it to land five feet away. She sighed. WOuld she never get this right. She fired another hitting a deer in the neck. The heard took off and she slipped to her kill. Perfect aim. She grinned. She tried to decide what to do with it now. She would have to skin and butcher and cook it. That much was certain. She began to look around for firewood to make a small fire.
Granger lifted his chin as more noise came from the herd he had left. Standing, he picked up his kill and began to walk slowly towards the one that broken this silence. A human? Yes, a human from her smell. He slipped slowly through the woods and found the huntress just as an arrow went over his head and buried in the trunk of a tree. A smile crossed his face as he pulled the arrow out and stepped into the clearing. "A little wide on your shot," he said in greeting. His gold eyes were gentle, but they didn't reveal any sort of emotion beyond a slight friendliness. Humans he normally avoided, but why not make a new friend?
She stared at the strange guy who randomly showed up. She had never seen this person before. Judging from his appearance he must be an elf. She climbed down the tree and walked up to him.
"Who are you and what are you doing here? The humans do not like elves hunting in our lands."
Grange wasn't aware of the boundaries that humans and elves put on their lands; honestly, he didn't care what petty squabbles they had over where their boundaries should be and who was "trespassing". To a dragon, the only real place that mattered was the cave that they called their own, their treasure trove...he loved the little place that he called his own. It was stocked full of gold and riches galore, and he had never been happier....no, lying again. He was bored. He was tired, bored, and quite frankly picking at treasure with his claws rather than doing anything useful.
"My name is Grange," he replied nonchalantly. "And I apologize for walking in your lands. I must have crossed a border without realizing it." He set his fawn down, then nodded to her kill. "Nice catch."
She smiled at him. He seemed nice enough though her parents would have a fit if an elf was on there land. Hunting on there land was strictly forbidden.
"My name is Alice. I won't tell anyone if you don't tell anyone. What are you doing here anyway? I thought elves always traveled in groups. It is rather strange to see one of you by yourselves. Are you a rouge elf?"
SHe had heard of rouges but never met one and she was oddly curious.
Ah, he didn't keep up with the times. Were elves traveling in groups? He'd seen them, but they weren't a part of his territory. Infact, his home was more on the human lands than on the elven ones....but he was turning himself into an elf. It wasn't any of his business; some dragons loved meddling and did everything they could to mess with the mortals. Though he himself wasn't immortal-no dragon really was-oh how long a dragon lived! With a soft sigh, he looked her over. She seemed to be a human of some sort; certainly smelled like it. He had no idea of her status, her personality. Any of it. Rather...all he knew was that she was kind of pretty.
"I won't tell either." he replied with a devious smirk. "And I'm sort of a rogue elf. I guess you'd call it that."
She grinned her eyes lighting up at the idea of adventure and danger.
"Wow. I would love to be a rougue. Where I am from I can't. I have responsibilities and stuff to worry about. I would love nothing more than to be free and run around and have fun all the time. I can't do any of it though. Its driving me crazy. Your so lucky."
She sat down on a tree stump and looked at him curiously. How she would love to have his life.
"What is it like being free?"
Being free? A dragon was born in a cave and raised by a furious dragon mother who would tear apart anyone who even attempted to come near her hatchlings; Granger and his siblings were no different. When they got old enough to fly and tear the head off a deer, the mother shoved them out the nest and went back to her own life. No dragon ever saw their father; well, in rare cases. So he had been alone since he could stretch his wings out. He couldn't imagine being pinned down by responsibility, by people needing him. He was a male dragon through and through; independent. Resourceful. Stubborn and not going to be locked into any place.
"What it's like to be free? I love it. It's going where I want to go when I want to, and I never have to answer to anyone but myself." He grinned, his devilish grin. "Do you really want to know what it's like to be free? To not have to worry about anything?"
She smiled as he spoke. It sounded wonderful to her. To run around and to be without parents forceing you to go to partys and find the right husband. Wow that would be a great life. Free from everything and everyone who ever bothered her and forced her to do stuff she did not wish to do.
"Yes I want to know. I think it would be great. "
Do you really? he thought, his golden eyes dancing in trickster sort of way. Aw, what can it hurt to show you..
He loved his life of happiness and freedom, of doing nothing for anyone else. With his life as a dragon, he loved being a loner type that never answered to anyone else. A mate would never suit him, and he wanted to fly wherever he wished now and forever. Well...until some human hit with an arrow or something and caused him no end of trouble. Being an earth dragon, he loved his rocky cave in the mountain, made with plenty of twists and turns to hide his loot...and himself, when he happened to be home. In fact, since leaving his siblings, he hadn't seen another dragon.
Grinning, he laid his fawn down on the grass. "Alright Alice. Today is your lucky day." He stood and stretched his arms a little, then twisted his head and looked towards the sky. A few seconds, and his elven form had rippled and turned into something else entirely. His hands grew into three taloned paws, and his body rippled with blood red scales that were impenetrable. Spines grew along his back and the wings that sprouted from his strong shoulder blades. He was a little bit taller than a human, thicker, with strong muscles and bright golden eyes. Normally, he didn't show off his dragon form...but why not? She needed some time off, and what better way than flying with a dragon?
"Ready then?" he asked. "To see the world?"
Alice stood there a moment trying to figure out what he had in mind when suddenly before she could say or do anything he changed into a dragon. A feared creature who ate maidens as a meal. She closed her eyes first and then reopened them. What was going on here? He was so nice and handsome before and now he was an evil creature who breathed fire. Her eyes got wide and her mouth opened as if she was going to scream. She did not scream. She wanted to but Alice never screamed. She tried to think of a logical reason why this was happening and when that did not work she just stared unable to say anything for a few moments.
"Your.......your a dragon? How can you be a dragon? Dragons are evil and eat girls."
She could not fully comprehend what was going on here. He offered her a chance to see the world. The whole world. To be free and have fun all the time. To not have to wear stupid dresses and run around like an idiot. No responsibility. No kingdom to rule. It was like a dream.
"You wish me to go with you?"
He didn't really think about her shrieking and running in the other direction; the thought didn't cross his mind because he wanted to believe that him being a dragon would be okay. Oops. He felt stupid, but it was only a moment. Having lived as long as he had, he had no reason to belittle himself. He would just have to live with hating himself just that much longer; what a pointless recursion! He watched her expression with a watchful eye.
Had one of his brothers gone to eating maidens? Just kidding. Well, actually, he wouldn't put it past his eldest brother to eat humans. He however would never eat a human; in fact, most dragons wouldn't go and eat humans and elves just because. If they were attacked, then all eating conditions were off. His gold eyes settled on her as he waited for her response. She was going to scream, and he didn't want to scare her. Ugh, humans...female humans most certainly. She was going to scream and he was going to flee with his meal.
However, she didn't. When she didn't, he let his wings fold back to his sides. Was he going to kidnap a maiden? His first one ever? Heh. The thought made him want to laugh, so he did. A rumbling, warm laugh that rose from his insides and came out as curl of smoke from his red nose. Eat? Her? He wouldn't do that! With a flick of his spiky tail, he turned to her and nudged her in the arm.
"Do I look evil?" he asked, snorting. "I won't eat you. But yes, I'm offering for you to go with me." A dragon would never dip to his elbows and let her climb onto his back like a horse would. His gold eyes watched her, devilish eyes that teased and smiled. Just waiting for a chance to fly.
Alice frowned a moment. Go with him. Leave everything behind. Leave all her worries and cares behind and run off with a dragon. Her parents would freak out. Her parents would search for her. They would be worried about her. What should she do? Be free and risk everything or stay here and hate life? Such a hard choice.
"Well I will go if you promise to take me home afterward. I can not stay gone for long or my parents will worry. Its very difficult being a princess you know."
She climbed onto the dragon sitting herself between his two giant wings. She wondered if she would fall off.
"Will I fall off? I do not want to fall off."
You know, Granger probably should have put more thought into this. There was every possible option that some sort of knight would come running after her because he was kidnapping a maiden....but he honestly could care less. Only stupid knights walked into the den of a dragon, especially an earth dragon that loved living inside of rocks. Well, it was too late to take it back now. He'd much rather just live in the now, the present. Alice was going to go with him to his den, where he might bestow a piece of jewelry on her. It was good sometimes to walk off and find a bored, generous dragon.
As she settled onto his back, he shivered a little. She was light upon his scales, and he wasn't used to letting someone onto his back. Most dragons would never do such a thing; Granger, however, didn't mind it if it was the right human. Alice seemed sweet and night enough. Flicking his tail, he extended his wings out to either side and lifted his head to look back at her. A princess, hmm? What a bad dragon he was! Stealing a royal princess from her kingdom! What was she doing out here by herself anyway?
He snorted again, then burst into a rumbling laugh. "I will take you back whenever you wish, your highness," he replied. One gold eyes sparkled warmly at her. Royalty meant nothing to his dragon; she might as well have said that she was just a peasant for all he cared. The noble address almost seemed like a joke to the dragon. He threw his wings open even wider and coiled his legs beneath his thick body. "Hold onto my neck, Alice, and you won't fall."
Alice looked at the dragon a moment blushing when he called her your highness. She was so used to people calling her that all the time it usually made her mad. This time it embarrassed her. She did not even realize she said she was a princess. SHe did not mean to say that really. She assumed it was an accident. She was so used to people judging her by her title.
"You do not have to give me a formal title. Alice works just fine. I appreciate the nicity of it though."
She held onto his neck her small arms not quite able to go completely around it but enough to keep her from falling off she assumed. She smiled as he looked at her.
"Well come on then lets go exploring. Show me your home. I would love to see where you live."
Grange looked at her for another moment. He didn't, any shape or form, intend to take orders from her; though she may have been human royalty, he would not treat her as above him. A dragon answered to no one and refused to be cowed. Orders...orders were things to be ignored and perhaps listened to it if he thought about it and decided it was okay. Rather, he would do what he wanted to do when he wanted to. And, at the moment, he wanted to kidnap a princess.
Or, Alice. Her title meant nothing to him, so he decided against even using it in his head. Rather, he gave her a huge, wide grin that should have been a tip-off to Alice: he was not going to do the expected. No dragon would ever do what was ordered of them. He let her have a second to wonder what his grin was about....then he coiled his legs that last inch and leapt into the air. His wings powered downwards fast and hard, lifting them straight up. Before they truly took off, he grabbed both of their catches in his front paws.
There was no trouble with lifting her up into the air. She was light and weighed almost nothing to him. His wings flapped strongly to raise them to well above the ground...then he began to fly forward more than up. The flight was second nature to him, and he loved the feel of the wind racing past his scales. Grinning to himself, he let her have a few seconds to get used to just being up high and in the sky....then...
"You should never give a dragon a command, highness," he warned, offering an explanation for his devilish smirk. He banked sideways steeply, not too steep to let her fall off but enough to let her have a rush of adrenaline. No, don't command a dragon, especially one from the blood-line that Granger came from. Though he would never really hurt her, scaring...well...
She frowned. What had she done wrong now? There was something fishy in that smile that made her want to leap off of his back right now before he changed his mind and decided she looked better for dinner than a stupid deer. But before she had finished her thought he leaped into the air and she screamed from the shrill rush of it. It was so unexpected and sudden. Had she given him a command? It was not on purpose if she did. She realized what she had said might have sounded commanding but it was not on purpose. Before she could correct her earlier statement and apologize to him for offending him she felt him go sideways so that she could barely keep hold on him and could see the ground below them. IT was exciting but very frightening.
"Im very sorry Mr. Grange. I did not mean to offend you. It was not a command more of a suggestion."
Granger straightened out his flight once his point had been made; he wasn't an evil-spirited guy...just a little bit of a trickster and a little bit of a dragon. His red wings carried them easily through the air now, doing his best to not scare her again. She settled easily on his back, and the male hummed a little at the thrill of being in the air again. He couldn't stay offended with her, not for very long if at all.
For, at the end of the day, Granger was a free spirit. Free, independent, and not going to listen to commands. With a twitch of his long tail, he winged in a smoother fashion over the land. People scurried beneath him; one or two children paused to stare up at the dragon flying above them. The terrain was quickly turning from the lofty forest to the rockier, mountain terrain. Ah, here was his home. Hopefully, without his crazy antics, she would come to enjoy the flying that he loved.
"Is that your castle in the distance, highness?" He had decided on a nickname for her; or, what he was going to call her. Alice wasn't...right. The dragon preferred highness for the simple reason that it was sarcastic as well as reminding her that he was not hers to command. Not one of her subjects; he was a free spirit. "My home is not such a fancy, human place. It's a dragon's den and not really what you will be used to."
WHen he finally decided to fly right she settled herself comfortably on his back and began looking around. She made little oohs and aws of excitment as they circled. She liked this flying thing. She wished she could be a dragon. To be free and do whatever they wished. Fly around and float with the clouds. That would be wonderful. How did one become a dragon anyways? She assumed a mommy dragon and a daddy dragon got together and made a baby dragon just as humans did. That would make sence but how would that work? As he went over towns and she noticed people staring she could not help but to smile and wave just for fun. It was like being on a giant cloud. Like being a fairy.
"Yes my castle is there in the distance. Quite far away." She could barely see it. It was almost like how the mountains looked to her from her castle. She wondered what she would do if this dragon would not take her home. She could not walk that far. Dragons den? What a cute catchy name. "I am sure you home is just fine. Everyone lives in a home best suited to them and if a cave is what suits you then live there."
Granger was the product of a male and female dragon; the male had been a large blue dragon that had courted his mother for a few moons before leaving her with a clutch. Truthfully, the male dragons tended to be kind of jerks when it came to their children because they would leave their mates with the kids and leave, never to be seen again. Granger was no different as he was a male...but he had yet to have any clutches. The truth was that the female dragons just...he hadn't met any. Not since he'd been chased off by his mother and went away from his sisters.
Perhaps that explained his boredom? Eh. He just didn't know what his problem was. Most males circled around for their lives, but Granger preferred to sit in his den most of the time. What was the point to chasing after females? It made him feel so evil and cruel to live the dragon way. So he was just single and alone. Which suited him just fine...except that he liked the company of his highness at the moment.
Flying, he loved flying. He could fly for hours and hours and never stop. So he didn't just sit and do nothing; he flew aimlessly and practiced his diving and techniques. His den wasn't far from them, and the terrain turned more to rocks and boulders with a few other stones beneath him. He circled a mountain in particular, letting her enjoy the rocks for a little while longer...then he tucked his wings and banked until he had landed on a hidden, high ledge that you couldn't see from above or below unless you knew where it was.
"Well highness? Here is my home sweet home." Infront of them was an entrance into the side of the mountain that was craggy and dark...but it was also inviting at the same time.
She smiled letting the wind flow through her hair that was quite rough by now. SHe did her best to comb it out with her hands. WHen he landed she held on tightly and was a bit suprised at how smooth the landing was. It was quite nice. She expected a rather bumpy landing leaving her jostled but it was very smooth and quite slow. She climbed down off of his back and peered over the edge of the cliff on all fours so as not to lose her balance. It was very high up. SHe scurried back to him and left one hand wrapped around his forleg. She looked at the cave curiously.
"I hate to tell you but I can not see in the dark. Do you have lights in there?"
Grange flicked his tail as she ran off; as soon as she did, he shifted back from his dragon form into his elven one. His gold eyes glowed as he watched her run to the edge of the rocks and look down at the valley floor so very far away. A smile came to his lips; she wasn't upset about flying and disliking the heights or the wind messing up her hair. He liked it better than when it was so nicely styled and combed. It made her seem more...real. That devilish grin came over his face as she came back and took one of his arms.
It wasn't that he enjoyed one form over another; actually, he'd prefer to be a dragon if he could. But he felt that she would feel better with his humanoid self instead of the reptilian and strong dragon. Besides, he had less spikes when he was human. Two legs felt weird though; like he wasn't too sure how to stand. It had taken him awhile to get used to the feel of walking...and not having wings.
As she spoke, he smiled a more gentle smile. Bending over, he scooped up a smooth black rock in his hands and cupped it. He breathed over it, a soft and warm breath that held a hint of suppressed fire. A moment later, the stone began to glow with a light that radiated out in all directions to make a warm, light feeling. It also brought with it a feeling of happiness and welcoming. He held out the stone to her, as he himself could see perfectly fine in the dark of his cave.
"This stone will only light up for you," he said. "So that you can see in the dark."
She smiled at him as she looked up to his golden eyes. When he handed her the stone she smiled and held it in her hands. Her eyes lit up as she looked at it. It was lovely. She pushed it close to her face.
"WHy is is not hot?"
That was strange to her. Most the time things that issued light was hot. She could not feel any heat issuing from it.
"When we leave here and you take me home are we still going to be friends?"
Her bright blue eyes met his as she fluttered them slightly looking at him with a slight smile playing at her lips.
"Because I want to stay your friend."
Grange was a special dragon; an earth dragon, who could manipulate the ground and shift it. Also, he could do things like the stone in her hands; it glowed because he had manipulated the stone so that it would do so. His brothers had been earth dragons as well, though a few had been plant and some of his siblings could work with water like their mother. No, he worked like his father: an earth male, that loved rocks and stone and being near the mountains like this. His den had been specially created by himself, starting with the ledge that he had pulled out from the rock and carefully hid.
He opened his mouth to explain how the stone glowed, but she kept right on talking. Benevolently, smiling, he listened to her keep going on. That must be why he didn't normally talk with humans; he was used to the dragon's way of talking slowly and carefully through the day as if they had all the time in the world. Dragons never rushed through things....especially such things as a conversation that should be savored and enjoyed. At the same time, he loved listening to her prattle on; she filled his normally quiet den with warmth and light.
He put his hands over hers as she held the stone. His were warmer than normal human hands; the stone glowed brighter at the same time because he was closer to it. Gentle gold eyes glowed at her almost, and a smile warmed his own lips. He wouldn't normally agree to be friends with a human; most humans would be so scared of him that they would run in the other direction. But she wanted to be with him and wanted to be his friend. Grange had never had a friend before; it sounded nice.
"The stone glows from my earth magic," he explained warmly. "And I will be your friend if that's what you wish. Would you like to be friends with a dragon?"
(Ha, nope! No worries. I like your posts.)
