Introduction

Welcome to the forest called Hulian. Here trees grow thick and tall, shading mossy ground and giving shelter to all manner of creatures. Tall mountains tower over the sea of trees, shading vast areas. Small lakes and rivers gleam through the branches of the trees, glittering brightly from the sun rays touching the surfaces.

Among these tall emperors of the forest live one particular creature. A magestic animal that is both predator and protector. Dragons call this ancient forest their home, living in nests on the ground or in the branches of the thickest trees. This home the dragons protect fiercely from others, attempting to keep their grottos hidden. Living, playing, and dying here, the dragons are fierce and free creatures. Rulers of their territory, and completely dominant of the other animals.


The closest other intellegent species is that of the Inuai, the elves who live along the sea shore a few miles south of the forest. Small towns dot the coast of the ocean beach, fishing settlements where the elves build boats to live off of the sea. The two species often clash as the elves move into the forest for food and wood to keep their settlement alive, and when the dragons hunt for large fish in the oceans, or raid the livestock of the towns.












Story

One particular clan of dragons occupies the southern regions of the forest. They refer to themselves as the Hyndi Clan, and protect their territory from outsiders proudly. They are dragons of many colors, from the deep greens of the forest, to the glittering blues of the water.
Being in the south though, they often have to deal more with invasions from the elves however, which brings death to the clan. The elves often fight with long rang weapons such as javalins ore long bows, which is hard for the dragons to fight with their fangs and claws. The nimble quickness of the elves also hinders the dragons as they attempt to manuver around the trees that make up their homes. Lately, though the elves had always only taken enough from the forest to survive and prosper, the younger ones have taken to sport hunting, looking for dragons to kill and earn the respect of their peers. Teeth, claws, and scales have become trophies, and the dragons, while wishing to burn the tiny beings from the earth, do not want to incite a full on war, as it would rain their blood for a long time.
Also outsider dragons have been appearing in the area more frequently, fleeing a sickness in the North that claims the lives of any animals and that the healers cannot find a cure for. The poor animals that catch it gain a high fever, quickly surpassing anything normal into the ranges that certainly mean death. Eventually blisters appear on the undersides of the animals, and between the toes, leaving the creature in agony when they catch the disease. They die within a day or two. Some of these outsiders simply want a new home in a new clan, and others have aspirations of taking over the area for themselves, sometimes banning together with others to plot.






Territory




The main territory of the Hyndi is at the edge of a low mountain. The rock of the mountain gives them caves to sleep in, and the forest below places to roost and hunt, and plenty of air between to fly in. At the edge of their mountain is a wide river that goes down to the ocean.






A lot of the time the clan dragons can be found around the quieter edges of the river, a good place to get a drink or swimming. Occasionally the hatchlings are brought here for a chance to learn to swim and to get some exercise under the careful eye of the Caretakers.






The main denning area of the dragons is a large, sunny clearing nestled in a valley in the upper reaches of the mountain. Here they have ground nests build of shredded bark and some caves near by naturally occuring in the rock. This is where the hatchlings are usually kept, though they are sometimes brought elsewhere for learning






The Spirit forest lays in a special area of the eastern part of the territory. It is the place of dreams and wishes for the dragons, and where they go to mourn their dead. At the center of this small patch of forest is the Juin Tree, where the dragons gather for important announcements and yearly events. It is also where they go to send a wish to either the Sky dragon or the Shadow dragon, their deities.
Note: Make sure to read the post on their "religion" below, it is not a religion that is followed, simply something for them to wish to. It is not there to offend anyone.







RULES

1. First of all, this is semi-literate to literate. Meaning no astricks, no chatspeak or 1337. Use third-person, and have at least two paragraphs of text. You need to put enough for others to work off of properly. Proper grammar and spelling. A few errors are fine, it happens, but if you have major problems with either, then type your post up on something that has a spell/grammar check.

2. Secondly, no powerplaying or godmodding. Both drive me absolutely crazy. Nothing will get you banned faster than having to get reminded not to powerplay or godmod constantly.

3. Be curtious to other roleplayers. I don't like a bunch of arguing in OOC, it's annoying.

4. And with the mention of OOC, use brackets or say that it's OOC in some manner. Take all outside conversations to the OOC thread please.

5. No cybering. It's gross. I expect romance. It's a normal part of pretty much any rp. But if its beyond PG13, don't put it in there.

6. Listen to the owner, me, and anyone I assign as moderators. Mods are those listed on the White list.

7. PM all profiles to me. Use the profile format that I provide in the next post. You can change it a little for like color, and such if you want, but nothing major and every thing I put is required for you to explain. You can add more of course if you want. Put Hyndi as the subject title please.

8. Make your posts pretty, it makes me happy. I like quotes, pictures, lyrics, and what not. It's okay if you have a simple post as well, but try to at least put up your character's name and picture in the post. Try to use font size between 9-11 for your character text. Larger sizes are okay for post titles and the like, but not to much please. And no pictures that stretch the page. You can use real pictures or anime, both are fine.

9. Have fun, be active, and if you have any ideas for the roleplay plot, throw them out there in OOC for people to discuss. I'm not against new ideas at all, so please share.

10. Remember to try to get on at least three or two times a week. Preferably more. You'll fall behind if you don't. If you're going to be gone, have your character make a journey or be down ill or something. If I don't hear from you and you don't post on the rp for a week, I'll pm you to remind you about it. You'll have three to five days (depending on my mood) to answer me before I delete your character. If you haven't been on for more than a week your name will be up in the announcements as your character being deleted soon. You won't get a warning, it'll just be gone. I know that seems harsh, but it's not fair for others to wait around and try to include your character if you're not there. If you're going to be gone, make sure you let me know.







Ranks



Omicron
The Omicron is the leader of the clan. Their word is law, and all final decisions are theirs to make about hunting, rank movements, and how to deal with elves or outsiders.



[b]Eta[b]
The Eta is the second-in-command when the Omicron is away. They are capable of making final decisions in punishments, for attacks, and for if someone deserves a rank. However, the Omicron may revoke a given priviledge if they feel they should, though it doesn't happen often as it is a show of weakness in the Eta.



Lambda
The Lamba are the hunters and gatherers of the clan. They go out and find food for the less able members of the clan. The dragons are primarily meat eaters, but the Lambda also gather fruits and some roots that are also good for them. Pi must train for one or two years to be a Lambda, they are graduated when they are thought ready.



Kappa
Kappa are the healers of the clan. Their knowledge of herbs and healing techniques are extensive. Often other creatures of the forest will even come to the Kappa for healing, though they know that it will cost them something. Pi must go through four years of training to reach the rank of Kappa.



Tau
Tau are fighters, the muscle of the clan. They usually are thicker-bodied dragons with fast reflexes and a good amount of strength. The Tau lead all attacks on the Inuai, defending the territory from the invaders, and also dealing with outsiders. No dragon is accepted as a Tau until they've went through a three-year training period as a Pi.



Iota
The Iota are the scouts. They are generally smaller, thinner dragons who have good flexibility and agility. Their job is to scout the skies and watch the ground for potential dangers. They are mainly reporters, bring outsiders and elves to the attention of the Tau or good locations of food or herbs to the Lambda or Kappas. Pi must train for a year to be an Iota, but they are carefully selected.



Pi
Pi are the dragons training for a certain rank. They can be any age, but most are usually two or three years old. When a dragon becomes a Pi they are assigned a particular ranked dragon as a mentor, and are given lessons from them. Often several Pi train together under a single mentor, helping them make bonds with those of their rank.



Rho
Rho are the dragons that do not have a particular rank. They are simply members that may be asked to do various tasks by the ranking members. They are often in charge of keeping an eye out to keep the clan site free of fallen branches, and the maintenence of the nests so that the ranked dragons don't have to worry about it.



Chi
Chi are the dragons that watch over the eggs till they hatch, and care for the hatchlings. They are commonly referred to as the Caretakers when spoken of by clan members. It is the duty of the Chi to make sure the hatchlings are fed well, and learn the basics of the clan life and culture. They are babysitters, teachers, and guardians to the hatchlings until they reach the age of one.



Xi
Xi are the year-old dragons of the clan. Their lives are focused primarily on getting the hang of using their wings and training their bodies to stand the strain of take-offs and landings. At this year of their life the Xi also spend a little bit of time with an assigned Chi, Kappa, Tau, and Lambda so that they can begin learning about the different tasks and which they would perhaps like to train for.

Hatchlings
The young of the clan, they are precious and well taken care of by every member. They are jealously guarded by their parents and their caretakers, and kept from any sort of danger. For the first year of their life dragons cannot fly. They learn to glide at around three months of age, and can glide for longer periods as they grow. When they turn one the caretakers with the help of the Omicron and Eta take the young out one or two at a time to give them flying lessons, teaching them about wind currents, and how to accomadate the weather when flying. The lessons last for two months before the Xi are allowed out on their own to fly, though they may not leave the mountain area without an adult till they reach the age of two.

Clan Behavior

Courting
Courtship has to last at least three months between two dragons before the Omicron will allow them to be mated. Courtship is generally done with small things, such as special attention paid to the other and small gifts given. The gifts have to be things that are useful though, like food or making a new nest for them. Dragons also spend more time together, flying or playing. They might also court by gently brushing their wings, tail, or snout over the other dragon, showing them that they have their attention. Generally its the male that does the courting, and the female that makes the decision.

Breeding
Breeding should only occur when the Omicron has given a mated pair permission. If two dragons mate without permission they may be facing outcasting from the clan, or their egg may be killed.
When two dragons are permitted, they generally have only one egg per mating. The female stays pregnant for about two months irl at least. The egg is left in the care of the mother generally to keep it at a high temperature until a week passes, where the hatchling emerges from the egg.
Unclaimed eggs will die off and never hatch, so if you're planning on breeding, make sure someone is willing to play the hatchling.

Fights
Fighting is a common thing among dragons. They are powerful, often temperamental creatures and fighting for standing in the clan is common. The Tau are generally in charge of keeping an eye on fights, and if they feel a fight is getting out of hand, or are too close to harming the hatchlings they are allowed to step in and stop it. Generally though only an Omicron or Eta will bother to stop a fight.

Religion

The Juin Tree in the Spirit forest is the center of the clan's religious followings. They believe that the Sky dragon and the Shadow dragon are the two most powerful dragons, and that they live among the stars. The Sky dragon is the dragon of birth, growing, and renewal, and it is to her that the dragons give wishes for a healthy hatchling, or to commemorate the growing of a dragon into adulthood. The Shadow dragon is the dragon of death, fighting, and honor, and it is to him that the dragons plead to make things better, or hope for winning a battle or challenge. They do not venerate the two deities, but simply honor them in their thoughts and wishes.

Nightwing Dragoria flew toward the Juin tree rather upset. "Why must I pray to the Sky Dragon for the caretakers. I am no longer one of them. I should not have to do this as Eta. I do not challenge the glorious Omicron, but I do not agree with this. If he weren't immune to my powers I would rearrange his thoughts so that one of the caretakers can come and wish for a high amount of hatchlings this year." She spouted smoke from her nostrils in anger. I wonder if this has anything to do with my patrolling for inuai. They must be destroyed if we want to live happily in our forest. The Omicron and Tau don't seem to understand this though." She growled forgetting that the Omicron could very well be listening to her thoughts and ravings from afar.

Onyx's muscles gleamed majestically in the sunlight of the Hyndi forest. He was flying overhead making sure the clan were performing their every day dutites correctly. It was then he caught Nightwing flying toward the Juin tree. He rolled his eyes playfully and went after her. He'd only been joking when he told her to go pray for more hatchling. With a sigh he beat his large wings in quick motions, catching up with her easily he landed by her side. "Nightwing" he chuckled lowly. "Why did you come here, i was merely joking about it." he laughed again folding his wings tightly against his back.

"I was merely following orders sir. I had no reason to believe you told me that in jest. Am I in trouble?" Fear filled Nightwing's eyes. "I am so sorry. I should have realized. One of the caretakers would have done it. I must apologize if you heard my grumbling. I am truly sorry. I should do something to make up for my idiocy. I know I will go see if there are any new hatchlings! There haven't been many yet this year. It doesn't help that the inuai attack when the caretakers sleep and take our eggs as trophies. Especially the ones that you do approve of. Its heartbreaking to see your egg missing. I learned that in my former clan. My mate wasn't one of the Omicron's approval." She babbled in an odd mix of fear and relief.

The Omicron laughed again. "It's fine Nightwing, come on lets get back to the clansite, these trees creep me out." he lifted his wings and hovered above her for a moment, touching his nose to hers. "And as for hatchlings, we have none." he confirmed with a sigh. "And I don't think we will, not any newborns anyway..." he beat his powerful wings waiting for her to take off as well.

"Why? What has happened? Did the inuai strike again?" Nightwing decided to shut up because she was acting like a worrywart, or so she thought not realizing she wasn't acting at all. Nightwing spouted flames as she thought about the inuai, furious. "I would love to kill all of those annoying creatures!" She growled not realizing she had actually spoken.

"no no Nightwing, nothing like that. but we do have a lack of mates in our clan." Onyx said with a sigh as he led her towwards the clan site. "We're running out of resources though, lets go hunt together." he said as he continued to fly over the nesting sight and into the mountains. "I think some sky=birds will do." he said eyeing the nearby caves.

"Sky birds sound divine. What kind of sky birds? Not those ones that fly over the sea and scream about their mates, I hope. I would much prefer the ones that eat other sky birds and the wingless dragons." She imagined the taste of the birds of prey and her mouth watered which was a joy to the tree she had flown over at the time.

Onyx rose his eyebrow at her. "Uhm, sure alright." he nodded in complience. "Sounds well." he landed in one of the shoreside caves and sat, waiting for birds to pass. "Now don't be to quick Nightwing." he instucted. "Just lash your claws out and take them from their flight." he explained softly so the birds wouldn't hear him.

"That one is mine!" Nightwing lunged at an eagle that flew by. She immediately grabbed it with her claws and threw it into her mouth. She immediately lunged at another eagle but unlike the last one grabbed it with her mouth and ate it live.

Yofune-Nushi moved with ease across the ground. He didn't skulk or stalk. The white dragon with feathered wings held his head up high as he boldly. Brazenly stepped foot into the territory of a dragon clan. One could always tell when they had entered dragon's territory. The signs were all there, and the scents. Yofune inhaled deeply.

He wasn't afraid. His feathered wings were folded tight against his sides, and his footsteps were rather light. The white creature moved through the area with ease. As if he had been in this place his whole life. He had not, of course, but he had found in his travels, it was often best to act like you knew exactly where you were going, even if you really didn't.

Yofune-Nushi was following the scent of water. A river at the base of the mountain that undoubtedly flowed into the ocean. It didn't take him long before his legs had carried him to the river. A nice long drink and a short rest would be nice, and this area seemed rather pleasant for such. He lowered his head to drink, the flowing water catching his long whiskers as they floated and tugged almost playfully at them.

Susto Broadwing glided through the air. Looking for one of the 'caretakers', he searched the nesting grounds. "Hello? Am I all alone? I don't really like this. I realize I am almost a Xi but I thought I still needed a babysitter. I guess I can leave the nesting grounds." Susto jumped off a nearby rock to glide away from the nesting grounds. He was unsuccessful for two reasons. The reasons being he was rather clumsy and second, the Eta, Nightwing, caught him trying to leave from the unwatched nesting ground.
"Hatchling! You mustn't leave the nesting grounds. Where is your assigned caretaker? Our omicron will not be happy to see you alone. Speaking of which here he is."

Yofune-Nushi's scent hit Onyx's nose almost immediately when he landed in the clansite. "Outsider...." he grumbled, smoke billowing from his nose in an irritated fashion. Any dragon new it to be rude to enter a clansite without the Omicron or Etas permisson first. He was just about to investigate the outsiders arrival when he heard Nightwing yelling for him. "Hold your fire." he rolled his eyes a bit and landed next to her and Susto. "What is it? We have an outsider near, Nightwing go investigate I'll deal with Susto."

Yofune-Nushi had drank his fill from the river. Stepping back a bit from the water's edge, he shook his head. As if to shake the water droplets from his chin and whiskers. His feathered wings extended for a moment, only stretching and twitching a bit. Yofune turned his head this way and that, just looking around. He smelled other dragons of course, after all. He was in their territory.

His tailed swayed behind him, almost cat like in it's movements. His thirst quenched, Yofune-Nushi turned from the river. His head lifted to the sky as he looked up, just watching. He didn't see anyone flying towards him yet. He knew, it was only a matter of time. Long thick tongued peeked out to lick his lips as he brought his gaze down from the sky. He began moving again. Yofune-Nushi moved brazenly, making his way towards the main dwelling area of the territory.

Obeying orders Nightwing followed the scent of the outsider. It was rather odd to have outsiders in the center of the clan's territory but that was where she was being led by the unfamiliar scent. She had an odd feeling of nostalgia caused by the scent. It reminded her of her former home before her prior clan had migrated south to avoid war with another clan. "I miss my old home in the north. There were no inuai there. Just snow in the winter, and flowers in bloom the rest of the year. The hunting there was wonderful, not a creature to compete with and I could eat those four legged animals almost endlessly. The larger horned ones anyway." Nightwing became submerged in memory, not noticing the beautiful winged dragon she approached was getting closer and closer.

Yofune-Nushi lifted his head, the breeze had shifted a bit and with it came a fresh scent. The scent of an approaching dragon. Once that scent had been caught, the white dragon had slowed his pace a bit and then stopped. Eyes alert, watching for the approaching dragon.

Things could get very interesting one way or the other. They might be violent or indifferent. Yofune-Nushi would not fight unless he was attacked first, though the fact that he was trespassing was reason enough for the approaching dragon to attack him. Patiently though, Yofune waited for the other dragon. Other than being in their territory, he really wasn't trying to provoke anyone into attacking him.

"Outsider! Why have you entered the grounds of the Dragoria clan?" Nightwing called to Yofune-Nushi. "I, as Eta, have come to discover this. I do not wish to fight. My clan's omicron was adamant that I not fight unless the outsider was hostile." Nightwing let smoke puff out of her nostrils, not to intimidate or provoke, as a sigh. Onyx always sent her to deal with the lesser issues of the clan, whilst he took care of the more pressing ones. "I will repeat myself. I do not wish to fight with you. I am no Tau."

He tilted his head up and to the side a bit. Baring his throat in a sign of submission. Or rather, a sign of an unwillingness to fight. Indeed he would avoid violence if he could, though Yofune-Nushi was a capable fighter. However with his slight build it would be hard to imagine him a mighty Tau. He looked more suited to be a Lambda than anything else. After baring his throat, he bowed his head slightly in a sign of respect to the Eta.

"Greetings," His voice flowed like a gentle spring, soft but strong. Calm and steady. "I have no wish to fight as well. Violence is never a good way to solve anything. You and your Omicron need not fear my presence. I am only a traveler. A wandering Nomad with no true home." How, he wondered, would she react to that.

"You are a wise dragon. I can sense it. I hope you enjoy the scenery availiable in our clan's territory. Likewise, I shall excitedly inform our Omicron, Onyx Dragoria, that you are a most benevolent presence. Please stay here as long as you wish, just beware the evil inuai, a creature that hunts dragons, who live to the south of here." Nightwing bowed her head respectfully to the nomadic dragon. "Where do you come from? I hope it is not a cruel unforgiving part of the north. I wish I wasn't so obligated to stay because of my role as Eta. I used to live far to the north in a large clan, but then we were forced south due to the growing season of cold. Once here, they were all slain by the evil inuai. I was the lone survivor. My mate gave his life to protect me and our hatchling. Unfortunately, our hatchling died of a strange disease after eating an unfamiliar plant." Nightwing rattled on not caring whether or not she was boring the nomad.

Yofune-Nushi had ducked his head slightly when she had called him wise. A slight smile had formed, and as the female continued to speak, he stood there and politely listened. It was sad, that her hatchling had died. How much pain it must have caused her. For a moment sadness had flickered in his eyes when she had mentioned it. Only a moment though and then it was gone.

"Indeed. I am from the North, very far North. The cold never stops, it is a harsh environment, one that makes all those who live there rather harsh as well." A subtle shiver had raced down his spine and he shook his head slightly. "Such a place, it was too cold for me." Now sympathy flashed in his eyes for a moment. "As for your mate and hatchling, I imagine the pain of loss was great and so I am sorry you have had to endure such." Of the Inuai he said nothing, though he had met them. "Ah, I see you have not gotten into any fights." he chuckled amused by the appearance of the outsider. "I am Onyx, I couldn't help but overhear you are from the north and have no true home. You are welcome to stay here as long as you like as long as you follow clan rules which..." he paused a moment and sat down comfortably. "You know, by common sense." he tucked his wings in close to his body. "What is your name? "

Eta did the dragon equivalent of smiling, she swished her tail in midair and raised her head so she resembled a reptilian swan. Seeing Onyx here meant she could go wander the clansite and keep an eye on the only hatchling of the clan, Susto. However she chose to stay and listen to the conversation between Yofune-Nushi and Onyx.

Susto did all but ignore Onyx's warning. He refused to leave the clansite and would only practice gliding upon the hatching ground. He did not try to leave despite the lack of a Chi to watch over him. He enjoyed his new found freedom, which was extremely harshed by the clan's Eta, Nightwing. "What a spaz. It's a wonder she became Eta. I could make a better Eta any day." Susto thought to himself as he glided head first into the ground below him. "Owch. That hurt!"

When the Omicron approached, Yofune-Nushi lowered his head in a sign of respect. "Truly I am honored and grateful for such hospitality." He watched Onyx for a moment, deciding that his was indeed a dragon he would not wish to fight with. "I am Yofune-Nushi. You may simply call me Yofune if you like." Again he lowered his head slightly. He gave both Onyx and Nightwing a polite, pleasant smile.

Onyx observed Yofune a moment longer before returning the smile. "Perhaps in these hard time you would prefer to join a clan instead of wandering about so aimlessly." he turned his back on Yofune and Nightwing. "The hyndi forest is no longer the place it used to be." he looked up to the sky momentarily immersed in memories of when he was a young dragon. There were no inuai to speak of no disease, no death.....
