LOL, so I'm 13, and I was never the skinniest person... I was teased and bullied in second grade and I'm very shy and quiet now. My self-esteem has lowered a LOT and I was thinking I should lose weight; like, 10/15/20 pounds.
I want to lose it in about... 5-7 months. I am willing to take a lot of time (1-2 hours possibly) for exercise everyday. I want to know food tips and what kind of exercise to do. I already do a lot of sit-ups/crunches, and I sometimes like to take long walks or bike rides through my very steep hilly neighborhood.
Any tips would be okay. Yeah, that should be about it......
THANKS FOR READING!

Okay, first it would be good to know how much you weigh because at your age sometimes it is not good for your health to lose too much weight. Also, I would like to tell you (even people say this all the time) that the way you look is not always the most important thing. Extreme weight loss should only be considered when the person's health is at risk. Having said that, I do understand the struggles of being overweight at a younger age, having gone through it myself, and I know what you are going through. When losing weight, you don't want to focus on actually losing pounds; the most important thing for you to do right now is get yourself healthy. To do this you must first cut out all sodas and fast food out of your life, this might seem like a hard thing to do at first but once you have done it for about a month you won't want to go back to consuming those things because of how good you feel. You will start seeing results around that time to. Not only do these things cause you to put on the pounds and keep them on, but they are very hurtful to organs such as your heart, kidneys and liver. Candy can also have this effect but not as great because typically people do not consume it in such large quantities. Another thing to remember is that you must exercise in some form every day, get your heart rate up and keep it up for at least fifteen straight minutes. Crunches are good for building abdominal muscle, but they do nothing for when it comes to weight loss. Walking and bike riding are much better but you also need to work yourself up to being able to run a bit of distance. For me, I started with a quarter mile, to a half mile and now I run a full mile every day. The very last thing you need to remember is to not give up, never get discouraged because it is so easy to go back to your old routines. You have to use positive motivation because anything negative will put a downer on the whole thing and you will forget what you are doing this for. This needs to be for you, not for other people. Make your exercises fun and find healthy foods that you enjoy eating, don’t force yourself to eat something you hate just because people say it will help you lose weight. Anyways, I hope this helps some and good luck!

If you really want to lose weight and since we are no Dietitians and Nutritionist. Since they are the only one whom can really help. Research some things about your age and how much you are suppose to lose weight. I'm 19 and I'm underweight, I think. Though I don't understand why you would want to care about the way you look, at the age of 13. Those people whom bullies you are no better, they're nothing. ^^ I just hope you know you're going to meet people whom loves you. Though if you think this will benefit you in your health, then I'm glad you're going down that route for that reason and not to look like "one" of those girls. Anyways, you could jog for a couple of hours. I think it's better than walking, since walking wouldn't do much. ^^ So jog around your hilly neighborhood.

Hey, well simple and short:
When I begun to go to a fitness center some years ago (and not really often perhaps 2-3x) a week for each time 30 min nonstop training i lost during 2 weeks about 1,5kg and muscles got +2cm (kinda much)..
Of course i also used to eat much fruits, 3x meat in a week and mostly nodles and such..
All over this is kinda basic and does perhaps not sound that great like someones others posts.. anyway its the onliest thing wich worked .. atleast for me and a friend.. so simple.. train- vary food.. thats all
And yes biking is one of the best sports to loose kcal! But then it matters how you bike.. biking till you think you're legs will fall of or when you get down from the bike and try to walk down some stairs and you got problems while doing so.. then you know you biked correctly ;)..
By the way .. whats you BMI If i might ask??

Couldn't say much that hasn't been said. Studying to be a Nutritionist or a Physical Therapist (that final decision I've not yet made) since the human body is an immensely interesting machine, so here is my two cents. First off, that you're only thirteen means you are, barring the unusual case, still growing and developing. The weight will distribute out over time, so a little excess really isn't the end of the world. Kids are heartless bastards and the public school system should be considered a form of torture. Anyway, since my head is full of more than enough knowledge on the subject to make yours spin, I'll share. That you are willing to spread this out over a long period of time is actually an extremely good thing. The idea of "yo-yo dieting" losing weight quickly and gaining it back just as quick is entirely real, so moderation is key. As was already said, no more fast food. Ever. Period. Soda too, already mentioned. Switching out poor foods for better quality ones will get rid of whatever nasty concoctions are bogging down your body and replace them with more of the proper nutrients that your body needs to function in the manner it is supposed to.
Also, read food labels. Find out exactly what it is you're putting in your body. Can't pronounce something on the ingredient list? Then why are you eating it. Not all carbs are built the same. Sugar, Starch, and Fiber are all Carbohydrates, but affect your body differently. Protein is important in your diet as well. Helps slow muscle deterioration while eating a deficit of calories, or less than what your body needs to maintain the current weight. And, again, as was already said. Calories in<Calories out. That is, in a nutshell, how to control body weight. Fats are, as much as they get bashed for being called FATS, not bad for you. They are in nuts, which are good for you. They make up oils such as olive oil which is good for you. They are, in simplest terms, really really big carbohydrate molecules. They're bigger so when they're broken down they release more energy. If you're using all that energy, there isn't any excess to store on the body, and viola, fats don't make you fat. There are different kinds of fats, though. Unsaturated is the best kind for you. Saturated won't kill you, butter every so often is totally cool, but certainly don't make anything with high saturated fat content a staple in your diet. Trans fat is right out. Do not eat. Pretty awful for you, really.
As far as exercise goes, moving more is good. Don't start running from day one. It will suck and you'll hate it forever. Plus it isn't good for you. Start of slow. Walk. Then walk faster. Then jog. Now you run. Your body needs a little bit of time getting used to the idea of being used more that it is accustomed if you lead a particularly sedentary lifestyle. If it is an option, go swimming. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise you can possibly do for your body. Plus it's a lot less impact on the knees than running. I should know, I'm destined to arthritis of the knee when I get old and crusty. Biking is a pretty cool guy, too. Resistance training is also good exercise. And don't tell me you don't want to get über bodybuilder huge, because that isn't going to happen. Women don't have the hormone levels to become Mr. Olypmia even when eating a calorie surplus. And as you want to lose weight, you won't be eating a calorie surplus. In fact, even while lifting weights, you're overall muscle mass will still decrease slightly because of consuming less calories. Weight training will affect the fat loss/weight loss ratio favorably and you'll probably end up happier with what the mirror has to say about the end results. Also, DON'T OVERTRAIN. You will feel awful and it is horrible. Don't go overboard. Start slow and work up to more days per week and things like that.
All out of cement for building this wall of text, though I really did try to keep it to the bare minimum. Good luck, and remember, that this is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix. You won't get anywhere if you revert back to your old habits as soon as you achieve the results you want.

Don't neglect weight training. I don't mean pumping iron, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen girls going to the gym for months and only running on the treadmill. Then they complain about not losing weight! Aerobic exercise is great for your heart and endurance, but to build lean muscle (which burns fat faster!) you need anaerobic exercise as well. Simple bicep curls or using leg weights to do leg lifts should be plenty. Go for more repetitions and less weight, it will burn fat and help build lean muscle.
One last word, don't fall into the "skinny/fat girl" trap. No two people are alike and so you can't compare yourself to anyone but you. The most important thing is to get healthy and stay that way! Best of luck!

First of all, I just want to congratulate you on deciding to make this change a healthy one, because I've been in your shoes before a done the opposite, which may get short term results, but definitely doesn't stick.
The first step is to not think of this as a diet, you're changing the way you live to something you can do for the rest of your life at your new healthy weight, so start by making small changes. What really helped me was keeping a diary of what I eat in one day. Those handfuls of candy and boredom snacks become much more real when you see them in writing! As others have said, cut back on sweets and fast foods, but don't eliminate them completely initially if it will only cause you to binge later on. Make snacks fruits and vegetables and work towards a healthy, balanced diet.
As for exercise, it sounds like you have a really good start, and the best kind of exercise is the kind you will do. So if you enjoy your bike rides and walks, just keep it up! The most important thing is just to get moving, first because it will make you healthier and second because it will help your weight loss along. (:
To keep this from getting too long, I'm going to stop now, but if you need someone to talk to feel free to private message me, and best of luck on your journey!
