What about fantasy... There is a point where fantasy doesn't equal paranormal.
I don't have a favorite.
I'm not a fan of contemporary novels to start so I guess those are out.
Umm... I don't know, I read a lot of novels at are historical/fantasy/romance.
Suspense/romance/historicals are also amusing. I love historicals, and I love romance, and I love paranormal/fantasy, and I love suspense, so combine as many of those labels as you can into one book and I'll be the happiest girl on the planet.
If you want a series where the guys are helpless, try reading Karen Moanings 'Fever' series. {Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever}. To sum, it's about this ordinary, cheerleader, all american girl, traveling to Ireland to find out what happened to her dead sister, and ending up getting involved with fae (Seelie, Unseelie), and finding out that she's the only one that can save the world, so everyone wants her and she has to decide whether to help the man thats helped her (in a very odd way) to aid the fae, or go after her sisters murderer and say "screw the rest of the world"..... or go back to America and hide under her bed.
It's a very female empowering series without taking the masculinity out of men.
