Has anyone on Mene read A thousand splendid suns?
If so, who was your favorite character/least favorite character?
How did it make you feel?
Did you learn anything from reading the book that you hadn't known before about life in Afghanistan?

I absolutely loved the book. I experienced many different emotions reading it and can confidently say that parts of the book absolutely broke my heart.

Khaled Hosseini is a very talented writer IMO.

YES! He is just overall a great writer. I just instantly connect and feel empathy for his characters. He gives great mental imagery too, I could literally see the faces of his characters in my mind, and see the landscapes.

I haven't read it in about four years, but I would love to reread it if I can ever find the time! It is an EXCELLENT book. I remember declaring that I was going to name my child Miriam.

I read it because I'd just finished Kabul Beauty School (also a very good book if you are interested in life in Afghanistan, particularly women's issues. It's an American woman's memoir about working at a beauty school in Afghanistan.) and my English teacher told me she thought I'd really like A Thousand Splendid Suns. She was right! It's such a powerful novel.

A Thousand Splendid Suns was a GREAT book! I read it a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly all the characters names and everything, but I do remember how I felt. I can't imagine ever being in a position such as her! (Can't remember the girls name, its one of the main characters)

I don't want to give any spoilers away, but the ending made my heart race so hard. I cried a good few times while reading it. It was well written, in my opinion. Its not a book I read, its a book I felt.
