anyone else excited for the release of this game in a few days? I'm still trying to decide where to pre-order from, since I can't decide which extra costume I want to get.

Anyone know if Squall's and Lightning's extra costumes were released in the US yet? I know they're already released in the UK. I'm really annoyed with the way this is being done since I can't decide which costume I want more...

lol, I've never even purchased the first game. Actually, I think duodecim is actually a prequel XD I didn't like the first one's checkerboard style of movement, I like this one since it's just like most of the other final fantasy games with it's freer movements.

I guess the story is a little confusing

-------------------

*cough* right, I got my games mixed up just now. Sorry. Yea, duodecim is the sequel...too much on my mind >.>

it took a while for me to get used to using Laguna actually XD I much prefer Cloud or Sephiroth's style of fighting.

I like their styles as well but Kuja's style is the only one in the game i don't like because its hard to hit the opponent with his attacks.

I have to agree with that XD I love Kuja but I find it nearly impossible to hit anyone with him. Zidane is fun to use though.

Im surprised they did a sequel, I guess if that style if your thing its a good game. I just want to see them do a decent Final Fantasy game for once and get back to their roots. I'm sure I will go on youtube and watch the videos of other people playing the game which has been enough for me in the past with other games I wasn't too crazy to go out and buy.

Dissidia 012 is actually a prequel to Dissidia. The entire game is basically about why the characters like Lighting and Yuna and Laguna aren't in Dissidia; the story is interesting, and the characters as loveable as always. However, I doubt there'll be another Dissidia game after this one as Square kinda backed themselves in a corner. Unless they continue making more prequels that take place before the original Dissidia, fans will be dissatisfied, because any sequel to the original Dissidia they try to make cannot have the characters introduced in 012 in it.

It's a shame, because the games have good plots- I mean, how could a combination of all the FFs NOT be amazing? Unfortunately, they failed to fix the issues that gamers complained about in the first game: the gameplay itself.

Although it's not hard to win battles, the gameplay is still as horrid as it was in the first game. Basic maneuvers like dashing and dodging are unreliable thanks to a button layout you can't remap (in a fighting game no less) and the awful camera angles is more formidable a foe than half the opponents in the game. Most battles are tuned so that you don't have to perform flawlessly, however, some boss battles proved difficult not because the opponent was actually skilled, but because hitting them and sucessfully taking them down required a level of precision in controls that the game does not provide.

Most of the single player mode is dull: you repeatedly fight the same opponents, and the new 'overworld map' is just a detour from the grid based levels of the first game. Like all FF games, the thrill of leveling up, learning skills, and discovering secrets is still there, but the gameplay is more mechanical than entertaining and immersive like the common standard of FF games. I only ever really got excited about the gameplay when I was fighting a human opponent rather than a computer.

Flaws in gameplay aside, as mentioned above, the plot was good. I loved that the story mode featured three campaigns (although one is essentially a re-hashed version of the original). The new characters introduced weren't just thrown into the mix without consideration either. Yuna and Laguna are great fun to use in combat, and the new assist system adds a dimension to the game that didn't exist the first time around.

My statement on the game is the same as I had with the first one: Great plot, Great characters, boring and suckish gameplay.

However, if you liked the original Dissidia, you will like the second one for sure. Square epically failed to adress the first game's issues, and such minimal effort will not serve to earn any new fans, but the company knows how to aim for an audience, and that's exactly what dissidia 012 is geared to do. It's geared to please the audiences who liked the first Dissidia.

----------

Personally I think Square ehas been putting less and less effort into their games; it's like they think people will go out and buy a game simply because it has the title 'final fantasy' slapped on it. With FFXIV sales went down 90% because the game was so terrible, so essentially dissidia was their effort to make up sales- aiming specifically to please fans who liked the first game will earn them lots of money. That's why they didn't bother to fix the controls- it's not about the gamers anymore, it's all about the sales, and it's sad.

I was really excited for the game, pre-ordered it and everything. It has some cool features, with the assists and the world map and such, but I was kind of dismayed when the collection section only had a 'creation' tab there. I wondered what happened to the rest of it. Is it something to be unlocked? Or does it just not like me? (I loved collecting icons in the original game. XD I'd just keep wasting my PP on them when I could've unlocked all the cutscenes. But I just loved looking at them~!) >.> Anyway, I liked the original gameplay so I was happy that this stayed the same. But for some odd reason I can't help feeling disappointed. I think I thought that the game was going to be a whole lot bigger than it is. I mean, I thought that each character would get a story mode in the main section... >.> Since that's what I'd heard. I mean, I know I'm not all that far in the game yet, but when I came across 'Undocumented Battle' or whatever chapter 8 is called, I thought, 'Wait a minute, there's gotta be more to it than that!' but I really don't know if that's the end of the story or not. I gotta keep playing to find out, I guess. The reports are cool, though, revealing other sides to things that one doesn't see in the original story mode. I LOVED Dissidia to bits, but I just don't think that my love of that extends to Duodecim. It's so odd. I'm not even playing it as much as I thought I would. Especially since I obsessed over it since I first heard of it. >.> I don't know, maybe I was looking for something that wasn't there. But I am enjoying the game, despite my rambling. XD All disappointment aside, I love playing as Yuna. She is epic. I had doubts when I heard that she was going to be in her summoner role (since I didn't know if that was going to be a pain to play as or not) but it turned out to probably be my favorite battle style in the game. I'm so glad that they added in more female player characters instead of just having Terra. Not that Terra's bad. I love playing as Terra. Terra was the first character I mastered in the original. I love Tifa's style too, since her battle style is usually how I play. Lightning's is okay. It's fun and all and the shifts in style (I can't remember how to spell what it's called, let alone pronounce it. XD) are helpful in battle, but it's not really... New. New is Yuna, Tifa, Kain, and Laguna. But I like the way that the story progresses, that there are secrets that only the reports section can unlock~! I am enjoying the game very much, despite the crit.

I actually haven't gotten very far in the game yet either, but I guess, since I've never played the original I don't have anything to compare it to, I still find it pretty fun. It helps pass time while I commute to school and back at any rate.

I have issues with the connecting with other people to battle part of the game though. I'm not sure if it's my game/psp or my friend's but after many attempts...we've just given up on it ever working. any advice?

sadly, I still haven't finished this game >.> even worse, I lost Crisis Core :crys: i wanted to replay it >.<
