I have a friend who is older than I am. He's like my big brother. I call him Santa (cos he looks like santa...with super light blonde hair instead of white hair). We have a strange flirty relationship and I've known him for almost 9 years now. We've been best friends for 8 of those. So, lets just call him Santa.
He's never really had a lot of girlfriends or dating experience. Santa's 29 and still a virgin. We talk a lot on gaia, and we flirt there too, but very very playfully. Its all just us being silly. I almost wouldn't even consider it flirting!
He has a friend, and lets call her Toots, Toots was in a thread with us, where I made the suggestion that when I come visit him, he shows me the cooking that he's always bragging about. And he tells me that he wants to take me out for sushi one night (both of our favorite foods).
So Toots starts yelling at the both of us, calling him a pimp and a slut, and saying that he should stop flirting with "everything."
So then I found this out right after this conversation happened in the forum, because Santa messaged me on MSN because he was VERY upset, almost in tears from the things Toots said. A week ago, a new user (lets call her Girl), came into the thread, and he flirted with Girl. And then Toots, in a rage, cursed him out and told him she was no longer going to visit him (apparently, they had plans to see each other).
I told Santa that I thought she was being possessive, unreasonably so, because
a) they are not dating
b) she has NEVER expressed a desire to date him
c) Santa is a very flirty/friendly individual, its just kindof how he is, and has ALWAYS been
He agreed, and I told him that I blocked her, because I didn't need to be called a slut by Toots, someone I didn't even know, I'd had MAYBE one conversation with her, and she was really rude to me. I told him that if I were him, I'd block Toots.
He then told me that he was going to block her too, because she was always trying to guilt trip him into things and that it wasn't fair.
Right before he blocked her though, she admitted to having feelings for him, but I think she only did that because she wanted to try to justify her rage (she's never really shown an interest before, and I believe that she is dating someone).
He still blocked her, but was very upset about it.
Did I overstep my bounds by telling him to block her? I think he listened to me because its me, and we're so tight, but...She's really cruel and really hurts his feelings. I didn't like seeing him cry because she was being pointlessly cruel (she even told the whole thread about how she was now binge eating because of him, and that she hoped someone would kill her).
I guess I just feel badly because he lost a friend over this. A friend who seemed pretty shitty, but, still.
If anything doesn't make sense, let me know, I have a headache so my thoughts are a little jumbled.

You were definitely in the right with your suggestion to block her. You were just looking out for his best interests and it doesn't sound like Toots would be an overly good match for him if anything did blossom, especially if he admits that she seems manipulative. It may not seem like it now, but it's definitely for the best. :)

I'm glad its not just me then, sometimes I worry that I can be pushy, but I think she was being needlessly cruel, and apparently she does this stuff ALL the time. D:
Its actually worse than I thought now that I've been chatting with him more today. So I think I did the right thing, she be crazy. >_>;

My goodness.. Santa doesn't need Toots in his life. I knew someone like her in real life. She hated my guts too, called me a slut and all that good stuff because I was best friends with her boyfriend. I guess I understand the jealousy.. but I knew him years before she came around, ya know?
And she made him feel horrible for it. Said he was a bad person and manipulated his emotions everyday to get what she wanted. That eventually caused him to lose all his friends, made him tear away from his family and made him depressed, sick, and hate his life. But the longer he dealt with her, the longer he allowed her in his life, the more she was able to get a nice, iron grip on him.
Anyway, she ended up ruining our friendship that we had had for years. And, he regrets it, but now we have different lives, so it doesn't matter anymore.
To me, it seems like Toots wanted to control every aspect of Santa. Wanted him to be her personal servant. This is strictly based on what you said she does. Bitches out his other female friends, makes him feel shitty for it, tries guilt tripping him into doing things..
I think you did the right thing by having him block her. He will eventually see it was the best thing to do instead of letting her over step her boundaries and suck him dry.
So, you saved him from some pretty bad situations she would have probably put him in. And you shouldn't feel bad about it, but then again, I guess if you didn't feel bad you would be like Toots. So, how you feel and how you handled it makes you better. Remember that.

I don't think you did anything wrong. You told him your opinion and suggestion of blocking her and he chose to do it, it's not like you forced him to do it.

i think that you were completely and totally justified to tell him that you thought he should block her. he's like your older brother, right? i have a friend like that actually. we've known each other for like 8 years and have been best friends for the past 4. if he had a "friend" that had said anything even close to that nasty to him, i'd definitely suggest that he block her. a friend that says such things is no friend at all. i personally think that toots is just looking for attention or something. but yeah he probably agreed with you because well you look out for him and what's in his best interests right? and he knows that. so anyway, good for you :)
