It's amazing how whenever you ask for "1 inch" off, hairdressers always hear "3 inches"
Maybe it's the imperial that's the problem, maybe they're all trained in metric.
That being said my new hair does look nice, even if it is just a brown bob.

I've never had that problem. When I was young, my hair was kept long.. then as I got older, I just started doing my own hair.

I have noticed that whatever length you tell hair dressers to chop off tends to double by the time they're done. That's why I always tell them less than what I want.
I've also stopped letting hair dressers "thin" my hair as it somehow always translates to: "painfully pull all of her hair out."

I haven't been to a hairdresser since shortly after I met Cloud. I trust him with my hair far more than I trust any hairdresser I've ever met. I actually didn't get to start growing my hair out for a long time after I'd resolved to, because every now and then I'd go to get the split ends trimmed off, tell them I was trying to grow it out...and of course they'd go "THIS IS A BOY SO LONG HAIR MEANS ONE INCH RIGHT" and just...I've left a few without tips because they not only did that but were rude to boot.
So now, we just maintain each other's hair. It's cheaper this way too, so that's a bonus.

"Looks good."
"Alright, let me just fix it up and we'll be done."
Since my sister got her license, I just go to her for cuts and colors. At least she knows what I want and it's free. \o/

My hairdresser is always great with length. She goes just a little bit under what I say and asks me whether I want to keep going and only takes a little bit off and then repeats that process until it's a length I like. She know's I'm picky with my fringe. ^__^
My only pet peeve about hairdressers is that some put their personal opinions on hair styles. I like my fringe short right and I needed a trim because it was getting in my eyes so I went to some random salon and I told the hairdresser that I like it short and she was like "Oh you don't want it short, it kind of looks stupid". Um excuse me? I will kick you in the kneecaps.

My hairdresser just sticks to the length I tell her, and she's funny and nice woohoo ^^
Just recently, last Thursday actually, I got a hair cut. My hair was thighs long and I hated it because it's so hot here, so I went in and got it cut, right above the chest area. I really like it like this!

I never really had issues with haircuts. It's more how the hairdresser styles it. I trust my hairdresser on her opinions since this is her job. Although, I'm going to get a new haircut and I'm a bit worried because I'm going to be shorter than usual.
I have to be sure to ask her what's right or if it'll work, so it won't look like a helmet.

I recently had my hair cut and it got a lot shorter but I definitely like it, I trust my hairdresser with my hair since she actually listens to what I say, but I absolutely hate when I go to another random hairdresser cause they're nearer to my house and they just start telling me how awful my hair is and how I need to take better care of it cause it sucks ._. and it's not even in a nice way =(

Oh I hate that. I've never had a hairdresser tell me what I wanted was stupid, but I've had them refuse to do what I want because they think it'll be too short on me when it dries (I have curly hair). And every damned time it dries it's too long. >.>

I'd actually have to agree on that. Going to another hairdresser is the worst. My bangs tend to grow out the fastest, and sometimes it can be so unmanageable, where holding out till I get back home just can't work. (8 hours away from home)
I went to a hair salon that was given good reviews, and I showed the woman the same pictures I show my hairdresser. (It showed front, side and back of haircut) But she kept asking me all these questions about how I want it cut, how short like if I knew anything about hair cuts, when there's a picture of it exactly in front of her.
While she did cut my bangs correctly, I was just not pleased with the cut itself. She made me look like the Brady Bunch mom..
It was just odd to me because I enter the salon with a certain style. But when the lady finished, she made my hair very flat and dull. She didn't even style it.
The worst was that I had to pay $75 when I normally pay $55, because the woman was the head hairdresser.

I absolutely hate it when a hairdresser does something that I didn't want but I can't bring myself to tell them that I don't like it so I just leave without commenting.
AND FOR SOME REASON, Hairdressers always seem to have the most messed up hair...

I actually stopped having that problem when I switched hair dressers.
I used to have this lady that would always do the EXACT same cut on me no matter what picture I showed her.
I stopped going to her and started going to a different girl and the new one (Alison) she does my hair SO WELL.
I recently just cut 5 inches off my hair and I still love it.
I -for some reason- always get my hair cut after something bad happens between my boyfriend and I. I think its an emotional problem and I should probably stop doing it.

Wow that must have been really annoying to have them straight up refuse! I'm glad you didn't give up and got them to do it in the end. (I think you got it done in the end, did you?)
I think that happened to my friend actually! Well a kind of similar thing anyway. They said her hair would be too thin to be cut short and then refused to do it. It hurt her confidence for like a year because she is a bit self conscious about her thin hair and then she went and got it done and it looked amazing and it actually made her hair look thicker.
Hairdressers may have an idea but they fully don't know what the end result will actually be, no one can see that.
I guess they just don't want to take a chance and have an unhappy client?

The cutting of hair in some cultures symbolises "letting go" or seeking a change.
Just as an example, in some anime when a girl breaks up with a boy or gets their heart broken they will cut their hair short. Kind of like a new beginnings?

I hate how some hair dressers can't seem to do different cuts. (In reply to someone who mentioned it above) It seems no matter what way I tell people to cut my hair it ends up the same cut every time. That typical girl cut with long layers and side swept bangs, etc.
On another note, I will never get paying 50$ for a haircut. I know some of you guys do it, and that's fine, but I refuse to pay more than 15. And even then I look for coupons.
@Wonder: It took me a few times to figure out that their idea of too short was wrong, but yeah, eventually I figured out that even if they don't want to do it I have to make them because it just doesn't look right.

I dunno, but I think they cut off more than you'd like because they want to straighten it out and make it look nice. Usually, they chop off the amount that you want them too, and then sort out the rest by cutting it neatly, which probably makes you think that they're cutting off more than you asked.

Which means they still ARE cutting off more than you asked, though.
See, what they should do is cut slightly LESS than what you ask for and then expect that they're gonna have to do that. At least that's what I do and it comes out a lot better than any professional haircut I've ever gotten.
I dunno why that's such a hard concept to grasp for most hairdressers.
I've also had the problem of going to hairdressers who have to have everything to their own taste. Virtually every single one I saw when my hair was in the awkward mid-length stage kept telling me I should cut it short again because they didn't like how it looked - ...I'm sorry, but is that really any of your business? I'm paying you to make MY hair look how I want it, not to "protect me from my own bad decision" or whatever.

The hairdresser that I go to now does a pretty good job with cutting my hair. When I say that I want "just a trim", she does exactly that, and makes my hair look even snazzier with her own personal taste that I like ;D She'll even blow dry and straighten my hair after she is done. And I know that not a lot of hairdressers do that kind of thing. Though my step mom is a hairdresser and I used to get hair cuts from her all the time. But whenever I would ask her "I want it done this way" she does it differently or cuts my hair WAY too short. I need my hair to be at least long enough to pull into a ponytail for work e.o.
I currently have my hair styled like last years popular A cut, but it's just a tad different from that. Though speaking of hair cuts, I need to get one within the next two weeks so my hair can grow out just a tad before I go on my vacation o3o

"O-or cut my hair to my shoulders....that works too..."
And this is why I'm afraid of getting my hair cut, even if the ends are a split ugly mess. x-x

I go to the same place every time and get only one of the two people that I *know* will cut my hair the way I want it to be cut: short as possible, off the ears, and slightly spiked. I've only had about two bad haircuts at this place but I just chalk it up to being a busy day (both times were).

I let my hairdresser do what he wants with my hair XDDD
Seriously though - I get bored with my hair and I like it both really long and short. He likes it short. So if I grow it out he chops it off. But I don't mind because I like the change. And I trust his instincts more than mine....I always look better when he gets his way :P SO I go in and tell him to do his thing and do what he wants and he makes me look good XD
