Hello Mene, I wasn't sure if I should post this in IRL or here but my best guess was here since this is related to animals. I just joined Mene last week and far from being a regular member here but I decided that I should share here what happened today since I'm assuming all of you here love animals/their pets as much as I do mine.

I should inform you in advance that this is not a happy story. So, I understand if you don't want to continue on reading. I hope you don't mind me sharing this, I thought it would make me feel a bit better if I talk about it (or in this case, I type about it).

Anyway, so here it goes...

My family, especially me, my dad, and one of my older sisters love animals. We currently have five dogs and one house cat. We also feed a group of stray cats* outside on the driveway, 4 adult cats and 4 kitties, the mother of the kitties is one of the 4 adult cats. Last night, when I gave them food I noticed that one of the kitties was missing. So, I called out a number of times in hopes that the missing kitty might hear me and come running towards my voice. I waited for around 10 minutes until I gave up. I was worried but at the same time hoping that maybe the missing kitty might have just fallen asleep.

The next day (this morning), I woke up with my neighbor calling me outside.
I got out and he said that he noticed that the mother cat was dragging something towards my driveway. He realized that it's a kitty's body that the mother was dragging. I came nearer to the driveway and saw that the mother cat was sitting there waiting for me and beside her was the body of the kitty, the one who was missing last night. I won't describe the kitty because it's too much but one thing my neighbor and I knew was that the kitty was tortured and killed. The mother cat, a very smart and kind cat, wanted me to know what happened to her daughter. She knew I was looking for the kitty last night but she was preoccupied with her other children.

I ended up digging a grave and burying the kitty as the mother watched me. After that, I came back to the house and cried in my bedroom. I've been sick this week and it didn't help that I've been crying a whole lot today because of what happened. I've never cried as hard as this before this is the first time I've seen in person an animal who's been tortured and killed. I don't understand how someone could torture and kill an innocent kitty. I can feel the anger in me knowing that someone living near me does that. I hope he or she or maybe even them will get what they deserve. I hope they will suffer. I hope something unfortunate will happened to him/her/them after what they did, or maybe even have been doing and continuing to do so, to animals.

I apologise for the poor writing and use of words.

* - In the country I live in, the laws concerning animals are not really followed, so you can see stray dogs and cats roaming around. We don't have animal control, too.

I'm really sorry what happened to you kitty. If only I looked for you last night. If only I wasn't so sick so I could've went out to play with you and your brothers and sisters yesterday late afternoon maybe you would have not been captured by someone, maybe you'd still be alive now. I'm so sorry kitty.

I am....speechless.

Do we think this was a human that did this?

Yes. If I were to describe it, you'd say a human obviously did it. I've seen cats dead because of being hit by a car, I've seen a cat killed by a ferocious dog, but what the kitten looked like, a human or two clearly killed and tortured the kitten.

That haunts me even more. Not only because the poor kitten didn't deserve that, but because a human would have the gall to do it.

Makings of a serial killer there.

I know. I don't think a normal person would enjoy to do such a thing and be able to continue on living without guilt.
By normal, I meant a person with morals.

I am sorry you had to witness such a thing

I don't know that I would be able to talk about finding a tortured kitten.

Thanks. It did make me feel a bit better sharing what happened. I still can't stop myself from tearing up a bit at times when I suddenly remember it but I try my best to think that at least the kitten is no longer suffering now and no one will be able to hurt her anymore.

I...I am in tears.
That shouldn't have happened.
Who would do such a thing?
Karma shall get them twice over for this.
This is unspeakable.

I love cats, we have one of our own.
Well, two, she is just with my MiL.

We have a house cat, too. I'd bring the remaining kittens in the house just so they could grow up safely if I could but my mother's allergic to cats and allowing us to adopt and take care of one cat in our house is her maximum limit. She wishes she wasn't allergic though, she got upset when she learned about what happened to the kitten.

@Cora Two kittens are now safe in my friend's house, she can only take care of two. The last kitten is still staying with her mother outside, but I think she'll be safe. She's a very smart kitten, she only trusts me and quickly runs away and climb a tree if another person comes near her.
It's been days since the incident and no similar incident has happened. It makes me furious just thinking that someone or some group might have just tortured the kitten just for one time fun or something like that.

That's good in the very least. One small blessing in all of it, at least the rest of them are safe.

Oh my gosh! Thanks for doing your best to take care of the other cats and make sure they're safe.
Stories like this hurt my heart.

And yeah, I've heard that it's bad news
when someone starts torturing animals like that.
Humans are animals too, and if they lack the sympathy
for our furry friends, I doubt they have much sympathy for other humans.

I hope it doesn't happen again…
Poor kitten.

I cried so hard the day it happened, I really never thought I'd ever personally see with my own eyes any animal that has been tortured and killed.
I've been paranoid ever since that day. Every time I hear our dogs barking like someone's near, I quickly run outside our house with a flashlight in had and call the cats or just check on them since they're normally sleeping under the car. I'm hoping too that what happened was just a one time event, I don't know what I would do if something that horrible would happen one at a time to the cats I've been caring for outside the house.
