I acquired a new laptop back in March due to some educational funding, so it came free with an abundance of programs and such to help with my studies.
It has Windows 8.
I cannot get to grips with it. I cannot use the little tile things and my dad had to install this nifty little thing to get an actual start button back up because I couldn't find anything. And every single time I swipe my touch pad just slightly the wrong way, it comes up with sidebars that are not what I want and yeah.
On a tablet of some form, I would understand. But not a laptop.
What are your thoughts? Do you get on with Windows 8?

*pats* Just have to get use to it.
Windows 8 is targeted for the tablets.

Or find a copy of Windows 7 and downgrade. It's tricky, but it can be done.

It irritates me, too. I have an external mouse, which helps a LOT. I've also debated downgrading, but I don't want to mess anything up and I'm a little scared to try it for that reason.
Plus I'm a little loath to redownload my games if I end up needing to do that, though it's not such a major issue.

I would vote for the downgrade part.
Reminds me of the time when Vista was out, I stubbornly threaten the salesman to give me a XP downgrade. XD

It's the future and you have to get used to it. I didn't like changing but I didn't have a choice about it.

Take the Downgrade if you can get it.
I've used Windows 8 on both a Tablet and a Laptop. It's very much designed for touch screens, rather than a mouse and keyboard.

I've gotten used to it, to the things it does ~wrong~, but it doesn't mean I'm happy with it.
I started off with a list of problems, while I was abroad -no fun- and now some of them seem to have... dropped off, but every once and a while a new thing pops up.
I don't think I'll go for a downgrade, I'll wait for the patch.

Patch? That makes it sounds like... the system is glitched?
I thought whatever produced is designed for? Not technical glitch issues?

The next version of Windows 8 is supposed to fix some of the problems people are having... you know, like the lack of a start menu.

I am usually very willing to adapt to new systems and most of the time they are great, but this is the only one I've had serious problems with. I feel bad for not liking it, but I have tried ...
I didn't know there was an update coming. That might be good. :)

I don't think I will switch to windows 8 unless all my games require it. The interface looks like a pain to navigate with mouse and keyboard.

Originally I HATED Windows 8. My boyfriend put Windows 8 on his computer, and I couldn't figure out how to use it when I was at his house on my days off. I literally would call him every day asking him how to do something.
After getting used to it on his computer (My old laptop had Windows XP on it, and so did all the other computers I used at my house) I decided that I wanted Windows 8 on my next computer. When I upgraded to a new laptop I didn't mind it at all. It still has everything all the other versions have, everything is just rearranged.
My home-screen is almost empty, cause I always go straight to the desktop, so I don't leave it cluttered at all xD Also, I never use my touch-pad, I keep it turned off so I don't have to deal with it, and I have 2 mouses: A trackball when I'm working in confined spaces, and a regular mouse for games.
In the end, I love Windows 8.

I miss Windows 98, if only for its theme customization options, particularly with the use of third-party programs.
Windows XP was a great OS, but man, were the customization options limited.

I hate the lack of a start menu. When I first got it I managed to find the programs folder and make a shortcut. It works in lieu of a, but it's just a bit clunker.

My parents recently bought laptops which have it on. I had to use one when my own went in for repair for a couple of weeks. It's awful. I still can't work out how to view pictures properly, or access the 'My Computer' files...There's quite a lot i couldn't figure out. I was on the verge of weeping for joy when my laptop came home, still rocking Windows Vista.

I can give you a tip about viewing pictures, you have to right click the one you want to view and go down to Open With then click Windows Photo Viewer. It will open it up and you can browse through all the pictures in the folder.
