I am thinking of starting a book club. I would pick a book from my own desires or suggestions from all of you, then we take maybe a month to read it then come back and discuss it or I could break the book down into sections that we could read in a week and discuss each section as we go. Right now this is a planning thread. I just want to see if there is a nook for this sort of thing.

For me it would all depend on what the book was. >.>

Heck yeah! I tend to read 3 or 4 books a month and sometimes I run out of books on my kindle and it's hard choosing new ones. I'm always up for another book club.

I would prefer it to be done based off of selections/recommendations from a thread though as opposed to one person doing all of the deciding. That way there's a good variety of books. :3

Right now I'm reading game of thrones XDDD Until I'm done with that - not sure I'll have time for a book club - but that sounds interesting :D

Maria, if you ever want to chat about Game of Thrones, I just reread the series this year. Feel free to gab my ear off when you get to the thrilling parts!

I too have read it and would be up for a discussion! Game of Thrones made for a pretty awesome book series. I've been considering re-reading it this year... >.> Read them all last year and have been eagerly awaiting the next book!

This is my first time reading the series. I'm almost done with book 4. Just went out and bought book 5 so that I can start reading it as soon as I finish number 4. I've avoided any and all spoilers...as well as the show so far. I watched season 1 after I read the first book. But then decided I was going to wait to watch anymore until I was all caught up.

Lol, I did the same. I read through the book series before I watched the show. Though I've yet to finish season 3 because time constraints and small children and GoT doesn't really go well with children. >.>

Right now I'm reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn for a book club. We read Gone Girl last year and while it was totally mind twisting, I wasn't feeling it. Nor am I really feeling this one just yet. I'm only about a quarter of the way through so perhaps that's why I'm not feeling it...

I would be into a book club. I have a ton of reading to do for school all the time, but I've been managing to squeeze in some recreational reading here and there. It would mainly depend on the book.

So my question now is do we want to read the whole book then discuss or discuss in chunks? And what book should be our first one?

So what's that book about? I've never heard it. Though I would suggest Hollow Earth

It's one of the biggest novels in Chinese literary history. The plot sounds really good, but it's just so complex. I don't know if it would be a fun experience to read it on your own.

It's about the rise and fall of a large family.

Kool I think will do Hollow Earth first. I will happily read that. Still need input on whether we should read it all then discuss or read it in sections and discuss it by sections.

I tend to go by the read it all and then discuss, because that incorporates all of the sections. If the book is so good that I get into it... I can't be trusted to not give spoilers that aren't in the current "section" that was supposed to be read.

I would join... but sometimes, especially with reading, I miss deadlines. And, I'm very picky with what I read
BUT, this is a very awesome idea

I wish that I had more time for free reading right now - but with me being in my last year of my undergrad, I don't really have time. :( So many books I want to read, and not enough time. T_T

But if I was to join, I too am VERY picky with what I read.

I'd be interested. I'd likely not read any of the books because that would need me to set foot outside, and go to the library. Two things that I avoid doing >< I really dislike the library in this town, it's one of those low acoustic ceilinged, fluorescent lit, utilitarian places and I don't like being in there. Consequently, the library card that I got about 20 years ago has never been used.

But I'm terrible at trying new books, so reading what numerous others say about a book might encourage me to get over my outside/library issues and read something new.

That books sounds interesting. My only complaint is that it is part of a series where not all of the books are out yet. (I hate waiting for sequels, LOL). XD I would say read all the book then discuss.

@ Jelly: Buy ebooks online! No need to go outside!
