Hi all,

As some of you know, I am going through each item on site starting from the oldest and moving forward and redoing tags. As I move through you should see more items pop up by color or by item name but I was wondering...

HOW DO YOU ALL SEARCH?

What kind of things do you find frustrating when looking for an item?
What kind of things are beneficial?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated :)

I go to the marketplace... hit the search for items tab and then search away...
mostly i write CI or EI in the search bar if that is what i want or the month/year it was released.
Tagging has made it quite simple and easy so thank you so much for the hard work put in to do it

Generally my first step in doing an item search is looking up the type of item- like shoes or hats or whatever- then the color. I'm not always hip on exact color names so I'll look up something broader like 'purple' and then use examples of exactly the color I want and figure out the exact color name I need from there.

It makes it really difficult when items of the same color are listed as being different colors or if they are a part of a color combination (Bauble for instance) where bauble is the only thing tagged instead of the colors that make up the bauble color set (not that I'm aware of this actually being the case for anything specifically bauble, mind! It was just the first combo that came to me. : ) )

Well hopefully I'll be able to fix some of the color issues with my menewsha rainbow.

More specifically, Maha-Aamir, do you type in specific things or do you do what Mythos does and start with something basic like shirt.

For commons I usually search by the colour I'm looking for (main colour, not edging colour), and then item of clothing (skirt, shirt, jacket). I also tend to go for really basic colour names in my searches, like "Red", rather than "crimson" or some such. Sometimes I search by item name if I know the name.

Multi items I always search by name, it's too hit and miss otherwise. Unless I'm in the DAC. Then I search for the specific poses by item included within the pose.

If I can think of its name, of course I just go for that. If I can mentally tie it an event (say, a dress from some Halloween past), I'll try searching a general term with that event, e.g. "Halloween" + "Dress." If that doesn't work/I don't have an event to tie it to, I go really basic. "Orange" + "dress," "orange" + "gown," etc. Also do that if I'm not looking for one particular item but just orange dresses in general.

I think the most frustrating things for me are when searching a basic color term like that doesn't work. Like, say, if the dress was in the color "foxy" and thus didn't show up under "orange." It's different from the dedicated "orange" color palette, but it's still a shade of orange! The second thing would be poses inside CIs/EIs. I used to have encyclopedic knowledge of this stuff but not so much for stuff released over the last year. I may know we have, say, an item with a beard. But if searching "beard" doesn't net me Gundrik the Dwarf I get a little keyboard-smashy.

Some items don't have a tag for their name. Like the flutterby belts. :( I don't even think they're tagged as a belt.

I go with generic names like 'pants' or 'belt' when I search, and if there are too many search results I try to narrow it down with colors. I generally don't though, because colors are tricky and sometimes the tags aren't there.

CI, EI, and if so date of release/event name
by color. I normally go by normal colour name and hope the item is tag with those name. XD
by type of clothing.

Search tab on Marketplace. Typically use a keyword for a broad search depending on what specific type of item i'm looking for or specific search of an item.

As far as colors, for example, pink. There are several pinks on site so my goal is to tag pink items as pink and also tag them with such things as candy, tropical, order, etc., depending on the palette used. Right now you can search order and you'll see items from vday 08 (which is where I'm at in the layers atm) that were all made with that particular pink palette. You can also search by pink and find them that way. As I move through the layers more and more items will appear when you search for order (and any other specially named palette--and there is a bunch and some have more names than others).

CI and EI poses, as I come to them I'll try to make them more descriptive of what's in the multi since the marketplace will only show the multi and the DAC only shows the poses (and all while trying not to stretch out the page :) )

Is there anything else that you guys can think of that would help you find stuff?

I've never had a problem finding anything. Of course, I'm an expert Googler, so go figure.

I like to search by color and category. And by category I mean, "dress" or "gloves".

That's the smart way to do it. Specific, but not so specific that it misses most of the results.

I use the market place. I search for CI, ei, etc first. If it's not tagged, I try the full name.
For commons I try the full name first if I know it. If not, I search the type.

Do you guys prefer items be tagged with plural forms of words.

For example, do you prefer dresses to have both dress and dress, earrings to have both earrings and jewelry, shirts to have shirt and shirts, or is that too broad?

I think it depends. I prefer skirt to skirts, but I prefer socks to sock.

Tags should be broad. I feel that'd allow for an easier way to find items if they're not so specific.

Here lately, I have been having a hard time finding things. Tags that used to work... Like snow, is bringing up nothing. (DAC wise) In the marketplace, I usually look up like CI or whatever I am looking for and can usually find it. If not, I usually ask. I have the most problems finding items in the DAC.

snow should still work for some things since I haven't taken it out (and probably haven't gotten to snow items yet anyway), although if you are looking for the light blue color, use snowy.
