WARNING: May contain SPOILERS!
Well I've been recently playing Final Fantasy X and X-2 when I noticed at one part that Shinra from Final Fantasy X-2 thought he might be able to convert the energy in the farplane into useable energy. He also noted that that energy was the life force of the planet. Then Yuna said maybe we'll be able to harness that energy and create a world where it's filled with excitement. Now I don't know about you but that opened my eyes to a lot of coincidences and similarities between Final Fantasy X and VII. First of all, Final Fantasy X was using a sphere system to upgrade their characters while FFVII was using Materia. They're both in the shape of spheres. Next, a lot of the fiends are very similar to those in FFVII. Now that may just be coincidence because a lot of the same monsters are reused in the series but they never did mention how the monsters were created in FFVII. And the whole idea with Shinra, creating things and being a genius is just a warning sign that can be seen from a mile away. He notes that this will be his last mission with the Gullwings. Could it be that he grows up to create the monstrosity that is Shinra Corp in Final Fantasy VII? The outfits of soldiers in FFX and FFVII do have some similarities.
So lay it down to me here. Is it possible that FFX is somewhat the past of FFVII or am I cuckoo from being up at 3 in the morning?

- That's actually a good point, hanulbada :D I'm actually a big fan of the final fantasy series, and the plots they come up with never fail to amuse me ^_^
BUT I've never really finished playing X-2, though from reading what you've posted, it does sound like FFX-2 happened before FF7  pretty good way of connecting their game series, I say.
I'd just go WOW with the idea of the little Shinra being the founder of Shinra corp. hehe

Well they're not supposed to, I don't think but this similarity was a bit surprising as they made a reference to FF7 that's a little out of the ordinary.
Now how would Shinra fix the problem with the dying planet? Well how would he know? He's just a kid. :]

true, and it probably wasn't a story he remembered. Also I am not that surprises, cause isn't there references to the other FF games, not 7, that are found in other games. I don't remember exactly, but I remember someone saying there was, especially with crystal chronicles.

Wow I never though of it that way before. Im a big FF fan and have been playing it for a long time and made random and similar connections throughout the games. Being the fact games usually do that when they are produced by the same corporation. But it is strange how in advent children and dirge of cerberus all this new technology is used which had no trace in the previous game.It could be that ffx was set in a time before ff7 since the materia for summoning had to come from somewhere which would be from the lifestream where the "fayth" went to after they "died". Or it could be that I'm thinking too much about this. :? lol

With the exception of a few games within the series they are not connected in anyway. The creators take and reuse or alter parts of existing story. Each final fantasy game has its own story(even though some stories seem to share traits). I have played every U.S side final fantasy except 11(and possibly the new PSP releases). For a lot of the series the story revolved around elemental crystals. As for the debate whether 10 and 7 are connected, its not likely though it is nice to imagine. You forget that that at in the back story for 7 the beings known as Cetra or Ancients came from another world. If 10 was to take place before 7 wouldnt there be at least some mention of them? Also the reason that technology that is used in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus is higher then in 7 is because it take two to three years after the original. They put stuff like those phrases and comments in to see if you would recognize it. There is also reference to cloud in Final Fantasy IX. when you look at the sword in one of the weapon shops it looks like clouds and mentions a spikey haired guy. Final Fantasy Tactics actually had Cloud in it but he was pulled from another world. Final Fantasy 12 had Gilgamesh who used various weapons from various heroes from Final Fantasy games.

There was actually an interview done with the creators of the series where they hinted at this link. It was suggested in this interview that the world of FFX indeed IS the precursor to the Gaia of FFVII.
I used to be a member of AdventChildren.net, and this was a major discussion there at one point.
I'm kind of neutral on the subject, as it really doesn't affect the gameplay of either game.

I tend to think of those as coincidences unless an official source can prove otherwise.

They're not connected at all.
VII is on Gaia (Which at best links it to IX and tSW) whilst X is Spira.
there are always little references in the games.
Look at IX, in one of the Weapons shops Zidane recalls a man with pointy hair carrying a sword like the Buster Sword on the wall. And at the very start of the game, there is the line in the play 'No Cloud or Squall shall hinder us', a very obvious reference. XD
I think the one you mention is a reference, nothing more.
In X if you approach the 'landmark' in Luca, it looks like the sword from IX's Alexandria castle too.

Yeah, I wouldn't say the games are connected. X and X-2 were the only ones based off of each other, and none of the storylines for the rest of the games are connected to each other. The only way they're similar is that everything is just reused for every game...Aeons, Summons, Espers, or what have you. I love Final Fantasy, and the recycling of things in there just makes everything more fun.

they do have lots of similarities but if you play all the final fantasys most of them share spesific qualities, like traits of the character, monsters and peoples names....oh and am i the only one who noticed that there are a cid, biggs, and wedge in every single final fantasy!:squee:

OMG! I've played both of those games over 4 times each. (yes, I have no life) ^^ But never noticed that until you mentioned it. But a lot of the series have similar characters and storylines anyways don't they? But then again, maybe it is coincidence. :|
