I'm just the opposite. XD
And I looked through your gallery and when I saw your Samurai-guitar piece I immediately thought 'Prismacolor'. And honestly, I really have been hesitant about trying any other brand because their pigment can't be beat (I know, I know, layering...) But it's so easy to achieve the desired effect without layers.

I've only used Crayola and Roseart and frankly, I'm not fond of either. I've never even heard of prisma until today. I've been trying to find something better to use, but I finally gave up. I don't have the money to go out to buy those really expensive things...sadly. I may save up and try prisma... maybe invest in one of those automatic pencil sharpeners? O.o

No. NO. Never.
Those things will ear up your babies a helluva lot faster than your money's worth. Use a knife-and-snadpaper or a manual sharpener. Give syou mort control and saves you a lotta money.
Amphorae - Y_Y; but... that piece, has so much layering. *headdesk* Haha, I still say Prismas layer better than most things.

I can tell, don't mean to seem clueless. XD I'm just speaking of the layers being minimized when using Prismas as compared to the crap (I know it didn't come off that way). And I kind of forgot I typically use color paper so I don't need to layer so much.
Thanks for the tip on sharpening!
On a side note I'll have to fetch my x-acto knife again.

Personally I love my Prismas, but I can understand how people can become frustrated with the soft leads. >w<; I color very delicately, so I don't find the soft lead to be a problem.
I really like their selection of color as well as the blendability and smoothness I can get with them compared to other brands. Other types might be good for certain effects, but I generally stick to Prismas.
Also, I heard cosmetic pencil sharpeners were good for sharpening Prismas.

I use Prismacolors. I recently got the largest set they sell from my mom n_n I'm so nervous to really use them and I actually tend to forget their there. I used to be so proficent with them and now I hardly use them. -shrugs- But that's something I should work on.
All other brands can work but I agree that they will never get the depth that's easily achieved with Prisma. Also Prisma is the only color pencil brand that will work on Metals. In my silversmithing course my teacher showed us how one can sandblast any metals and then color directly on the metal. It looks so amazing and bright. Then you just seal it. It's a very interesting concept but I doubt I'll get the time to do it with only 4 weeks left of the semester.

When I colour a piece on paper (meaning not via PC) I use coloured pencils. I've tried markers before... I can't seem to use them correctly ^.^; And paints... Ugh... I completely suck at painting. But I like colouring with coloured pencils. I use Prang because ... well I can't afford prisma colour pencils ^.^; Maybe if I was colouring art as a profession, but not just as a hobby.

Ah, I absolutely LOVE colored pencils. xD They're like the only traditional medium I use. ^^;;
I like prismacolors enough... they get the job done for me... but often times I'll use watercolor pencils. I like them for their texture. @@;; I have so many different brands it's not even funny... I'm always buying new ones... xDD;;

Colored pencils and your love or hate for them- I LOVE COLORED PENCILS! all my art is done in colored pencils if I want them to be in color. I really have no idea how to use markers, and coloring on the computer is so impossible on my list of things i'm capable of doing that its not even funny.
Why Prismacolors sometimes piss you off, if at all- when you JUST sharpened it, and it's all perfectly sharp in the right places, and it breaks. just like that. or when you drop it, and it breaks. that pisses me off to no end!
What are some other fantastic brands of colored pencils- I used to live in Europe, so I brought back some AWESOME colored pencils. If you're interested, here's the brand: 'Jolly Kinderfest"

I absolutely adore Prismacolor pencils. <3
Mine don't do that weird breaking thing though, and my set's literally older than me (I think it was made in the mid-80s?) - I took it from my mom after she quit drawing ;__;
They're so fun to layer and blend with. It was such a shock to go from the Crayolas that we use in art class (low budget.) to Prismas.
I can get so many colours that I just wouldn't be able to get (looking well, at least) with Crayolas... no experience with brands besides those two. I think that the thing I like to do best with them though is layer them over markers, has anyone else tried that...?

It's possible that the reason the lead is falling off is because it breaks on the inside of the case and not the wood. It happens to all pencils. That's why you shouldn't tap them so hard, etc. if you want the lead to be intact but I don't really like colored pencils anyways.
I don't liking having to press down to get a full solid color without the little white lines but Prismacolor is the best I've used. It's smooth and transitions well. I can use Crayola too, just fine, but it's not the best brand. It's harder to mix colors once you've pressed down so you have to add the colors on with light layers every time.

I normally use colored pencils when I rarely color in one of my works. I have some eraseable ones that I've had for years, and I love them. There's only about 20-25 of them, but they're easy to blend. I've been wanting some new ones though, just to get more colors.
But like I said, I don't color my drawings very often. I just sketch them in pencil and sometimes go over them in ink if I like it.

Prismas are awesome. I love their blendiness[?] and bold color. Becuase they are soft they need a special sharpener. [ Not any old cheapy one or electric! ]
I love colored pencils in general, but I hate the RoseArt and Target brand. Those are rough and dull. I'd say that Crayolas are OK.
Faber-Castells are lovely colored pencils too. :3

I've stuck to Crayolas for most of my life in Canada. I like their hardness, and they're quite cheap too. I once got the 60 pack set for like $1-$2 after the mail-in rebate. I think I'm better off sticking with Crayola for a while since my sharpeners are so cheap ($1 for 5) and they constantly break them o_o
I had fun with watercolor pencils in China ^^ the colored pencils in China break quite easily and the colors aren't very bold (I've used them for half my life), so I rather like Crayola. I'd gladly try Prismas though.

The texture that the watercolor pencils have, is it soft?

I love using colored pencils! n_n
Theyre my favorite medium to color in, if I color it at all. > 3>
I like the pressure dictates how bold/dark it is.
But at the same time it sucks, because I have a death grip on everything and it always comes out dark. ; ;
Rose art colored pencils are all smooth and bright, theyre fun to use. xD
If I ever get serious about coloring/drawing+sketching I'll fork out for some Prismacolors, my friend has a pair and they are amaaazing. <3

Prismacolors are undoubtedly expensive...
and sharpening them is always a cheap thrill.
>_>
I swear more during sharpening than I do at any other time, even driving during rush-hour in down town.
But at the same time, it is well worth the smooth easy laydown and unbeatable blend-ability.
Prang, however, is a valuable investment that doesn't cost very much money. The colors are rich and clear, and though it doesn't have as high of a soft wax content as the prismacolors, I would use those for small detail and areas of a drawing that would not be blended. Meh. Personal favorites.

I'm actually looking to try out Faber-Castell and Derwent, both of which I have tried their normal pencil with and am quite satisfied.
They are only slightly less expensive than prismacolor, though. I'm talking like, only 10% cheaper.
