Psha.

And you know what I hate moar than coloring? Backgrounding after I already drew the character in the picture, especially if its clouds.

Anyways, any advice for coloring?

And and, if the lines look choppy, its cause I had to resize it on opencanvas since I cant save it on there, print it on the screen, paste it on ms paint, and such.
Plus using a mouse a such doesnt help, although thats barely an excuse. I should really stop using it too xD Oh well, whutever. ADVICE PLOX.

M... I don't use Open Canvas but to make your shading look better, try blurring it so that it blends into the solid colors? And adding highlights might help too! XD

  • i think you're doing fine kimu ^_^ but f you want to go with a somewhat smoother way of coloring, besides cell shading (which is what you used on that image), you can do what melody adviced you. try using some sort of blur tool to make the colors merge in some areas. I'm not really familiar with Open Canvas, though, but if you were using photoshop, I could help ^_^

I think it's cute, I like the soft coloring and the low shading, gives it such and innocent look :D

I love your clouds.
I suggest coloring as if you were drawing. Like... instead of filling in with color, it helps me to redefine the picture--using it like paint. Make a little sense? ... Maybe?

Pick a light source first of all. It looks like it's coming from the front and if that's the case then you'll have little to no shadows on the face and clothes. The shadows you do have are misplaced.
If you look at her hairline you put a shadow under it, and that would imply the light is above her, yet when I look at the bottom of her dress and hair it looks like it's coming from the right.

Once you get that issue decided I'd say darken your colours and add highlights. Right now you have only base and shadow and very subtle highlights. To make her stand out from the background you need to make her pop.

Hope it helps.

I think you did a good job with coloring. the background is great, it's simple but fits.

i think your coloring looks really nice

for me coloring is fun and relatively easy
lineart is hard
it takes me a long time to get everything to look right
bgs are just boring to do
