Background Information
Zelda’s mother, Morgan Lee, was obsessed with finding a beautiful and less commonly used name for her unborn daughter. She searched for months until she happened upon the Yiddish name “Zelda” which means “luck”. She thought her daughter to be the luckiest girl alive to have such a beautiful name, and she herself felt lucky to carry a child within her womb.
Zelda Juno Lee was born to a single mother. Her father had been kicked out of Morgan and Zelda’s lives before Zelda’s birth for using drugs and being unfaithful. Without Jacob Smith’s income to help support Morgan and Zelda, life was difficult. Fun times were scarce and they often lived in very poor conditions, though Morgan was meticulously clean and organized.
Despite the hardships, Morgan raised her daughter well. Her daughter became filled with great confidence and ambition. The difficult life they lived taught Zelda to be a hard worker and never to back down from what she believed was wrong. Morgan was very proud of her daughter.
A week after Zelda’s eleventh birthday, Morgan died in a car wreck, leaving her daughter behind. The death of her mother was devastating, and being passed through one foster family after another didn’t help the situation. By the time Zelda had turned fourteen she already had scars marking her pain and frustration along the flesh of her wrists and legs. Two scars in particular on her wrists were long, and wide and were extremely clear from her failed suicide attempt.
After the attempt another family who were accustomed to taking care of seemingly mentally unstable teenagers took Zelda in. They helped her vent her pain and frustrations in more productive manners and got her interested in the dramatic arts as well as photography. They helped her get her mind back on track.
To this day she is still living with the same family and they are considering adoption. She attends the high school in the town in which she’s lived for the last two and a half years.
