About the Child

Name- Abri
Gender- Female
Age- Baby
Appearance- Abri has a warm tanned complexion and rich, brown eyes. Her hair is a light pink. Though it is not yet apparent, she is inherieting Sae's horns and where they are growing in, her head is sore.
Personality- Happy and Curious. She loves to play games and will cry if she's left alone too long. She wants attention and loves the sound of people's voices.
She's a mischevious baby who will grab and hide anything within reach.
Having two mothers does not appear to affect her. She is not old enough to notice. She calls Rebecca "Mommy" and Sae "Mum", because both taught her different versions. She does not know or understand an word related to "father".

About the Parents

Sae and Rebecca are an unlikely pair to be parents.

For one, they aren't a couple. Sae may be bi-sexual, but Rebecca is straight. One innocent kiss from Sae was all it took for Rebecca to become pregnant. Rebecca's species becomes pregnant through lip-contact and can only concieve at a random time every five years. Luckily, because Sae is a demon and not of Rebecca's species, Rebecca only concieved one child.
It is normal for her species to have ten children in one go.

Sae is affectionate towards Rebecca, but Rebecca can not share Sae's feelings and is more than a little miffed about the pregnancy.

Despite the unlikely match-up, they really care about their daughter and though they might make the oddest of mistakes, they always have good intentions in mind.

How it came to be (Baby's birth) [Rebecca's point-of-view]

I stood there holding the ladder and making cracks about how she shouldn't need a ladder. She chuckled every once and awhile, happy for any kind ofattention. The joke was on her, but she'd gladly carry the weight of it for a laugh. Was she ever insulted?

Sae wasn't stupid.

She knew what I was insinuating. I was purposely picking at the one thing she was ashamed of. She was born with no wings. Sae was a demon. The brown horns that curled back on either side of her head and the matching brown tail were proof of it, but she had no wings and could not fly.

No demon would ever accept her. Her own parents denied her.
She was the proof of an affair her ancestor had generations back with a human.

If I was anyone else, Sae would have been pissed. But I was me, and, I was holding our child in my arms.

Sae loved me.

But, I could not love her back. I was just another person in Sae's life, who denied her. Part of me fought to love her. I remembered my pregnancy and how Sae had doted on me and showed concern for the first time in her life. I could still see the look on her face when I'd started to have the baby. I'd been in so much pain. And she'd been there looking expectant and guilty. She'd given me a hand to hold, and I'd broken it.

I looked up at Sae and watched her attach the sign to the doorway one handed. Her right hand was wrapped in bandages and dangled limply as she used her arm to steady the sign. Tears started in the corners of my eyes.

I'd been selfish.

I read the sign in the fading light.
"Menewshan Maternity Clinic".

I wouldn't be selfish any more.

Sae's Love

Sae woke in the morning to sunlight pooling through the open window. She was suprised to find that it was morning already. Surely, the baby would have woken in the middle of the night? Why hadn't she heard? She turned to look at the baby monitor she kept by the side of her bed.

It wasn't there.

Instead there was a note. Sae read it aloud,

"I've borrowed the monitor. You need your rest.
I'll take care of the baby tonight, m'kay?
-Rebecca."

Sae sighed feeling happy and sad at the same time.

It was nice of Rebecca to think of her, but the note felt so distant and impersonal. Sae wanted so badly for the note to end with a "love", Rebecca hadn't even signed it with the pet name Sae had given her, "Becca".

She rolled over in bed, wishing that Rebecca slept next to her. Sae wanted to hold her so badly. But, they slept in seperate rooms.

Sae sighed and got out of bed.

Abri slept in the room ajoining Rebecca's room with Sae's. Abri always cheered Sae up. She went in to look for the baby, but Abri wasn't there.

Sae walked down into the kitchen and giggled at what she saw.

A frustrated-looking Rebecca was trying to seen Abri off her bottle. The result for mashed food all over the wall and a yowling Abri.

Sae's eyes watered. Rebecca was taking an interest in their child. She felt herself start to cry.

Rebecca's Journal #1

I'm starting to get used to caring for Abri. With Sae's injury it really is difficult for her to care for our baby. She tries, but she ends up injuring herself worse and nearly dropping the baby.

She won't hold Abri after she almost dropped her.

I hate to see her so upset, but it really is for the best that she refrains from holding Abri until her hand has healed. Luckily, demons heal fast and she should be fine in a week or so.

I'm trying to get used to being a parent, burt it's difficult when I'm not romantically inclined towards my partner. Sae wants me to love her. It's painful for me to look Sae in the eyes. I hate to see the selfless devotion that is so wasted on me.

The first parents

It was the perfect place for a clinic.

Rebecca was one of many species that resided on Menewsha, though she looked human and Sae came from the underworld connected to Menesha, she was a demon. And so, though the clinic was not on Menewsha, they named it the Menewshan Maternity clinc.

Anyone in need their clinic would find themselves transported into the courtyard.

Sae had already found pictures of the arriving parents, a spell automatically sent them to the clinic, so that Sae and Rebecca would know when some one was coming and who they were.

Now ll they had to do was wait for the first two couples to arrive.

Technically, it was the future home of at least half a dozen more trailers, but they weren't here yet, so a yard it would remain for the time being.

"Hey!" Hannah shouted. Maybe the shimmering was alive. She started jogging toward it, and a few moments later she heard footsteps pattering after her. She stopped and so did they. The shimmering thing was larger now, more the size of a large dog or a crouching human.

"What's wrong?" Oscar asked. He had been hovering ever since she had told him their big news, so naturally he had taken some initiative and followed her. It was nice he was so obedient without even knowing that she expected it.

Hannah grabbed his hand. "Come see," she said, and suddenly she rushed forward until her free hand touched the shimmer. A bright light sparked around the pair, and they disappeared.

Oscar knew not five seconds after they arrived outside the clinic that it was not someplace he wanted to be. First of all, it wasn't where they had been five seconds ago, and on top of that, there were other people there that he was sure were going to expect him to converse with them.

"Hey," Hannah said, dropping Oscar's hand and waving at Rebecca, Sae, and the little pink-haired girl. She couldn't explain why, but she somehow felt a great deal more serene here than she did at home. "Where are we?"

"I'm so glad to see you", The pink-haired demon called out practically bouncing, the baby giggling in response to her happiness.

Rebecca rolled her eyes again. "Sae, they asked you a question."

"Hm?"

She shook her head, turned to the couple and motioned at the sign behind her. "We're a special maternity clinic for different circumstances. I'm here to make sure everything goes well with the pregnancy and that your child grows up healthy. I'm trained in medicine and will act as a doctor when needed. I can't explain why Sae's here though."

Sae made a face at her.

"This place you see has its own special dimension. Parents who belong to this clinic from across Menewsha, or even from other worlds can gather here. You are the first couple."

Theo was no happier, outside the small shack they'd been sharing he'd been up a tree stripping the bark out it in irritation. His life was not going according to plan. He wanted to go home, he wanted to get away from that crazy woman and forget all about what had happened during his last Malsar.

A minute later the pair found themselves in the courtyard staring at several strangers. Theo now on on stomach on the ground growled " Gods be damned girl what the hell did you do now."

Krystal was silent, this wasn't her doing and she wasn't even sure what was going on. At least some of the strangers were odd like them so they were less likely to be stared at oddly.

"Welcome", an excited-looking female demon rushed up to the newly appeared 'couple'. "This is the Menewshan Maternity clinic. I 'm Sae and this is--"

Rebecca sighed and shoved a hand over Sae's mouth. "Let's not repeat it. These people are late, they can figure things out for themselves. I don't want to go through the whole damn thing again." She looked at the couple critcially and then with distaste.

Sae sighed,"Oh Becca . . ."

He wasn't totally sure what was going on here but he had an idea and if he was correct his life was about to get that much more complicated.

Sae blinked looking confused and then giggled, "Why for the baby of course!"

"You're pregnant", Rebecca added bluntly and stared at the cat-creature assuming that he must be the one pregnant after his outburst.

"See? I told you I was having a baby," Hannah whispered over her shoulder. At least now she wouldn't have to worry about seeing a Menewshan doctor, since this woman had offered and all.

"I never said I didn't believe you," Oscar replied, in an even lower voice.

Hannah turned and addressed Theo and Krystal. "Congratulations!" she said sunnily, despite the fact that the fairy and cat-dude didn't seem to be in the least bit excited.

Frankly, Oscar himself was hardly registering anything other than anxiety over what exactly it meant to be in this strange, empty dimension. Was time continuing as normal back home? If so, he might have been wise to start thinking about a plausible place he and Hannah might have run off to, in case Joey had returned home from the hardware store.

He cleared his throat, taking the opportunity to bring up his concern since the other woman had talked of leaving. "Yes, how do we get home from here?"

Kyrstal was shocked, Theo cared? Was even remotely interested in this? She smiled a bit. " I would appreciate some knowledge that all was going well."

Rebecca smiled slightly, "That would be me. I've been trained in the medical arts". She said adding a flourish to her correct title as a doctor.

Sae looked at Rebecca fondly, "Becca's good at what she does." She indicated to her bandaged hand. "This hand was broken a little while ago, but now it will move a bit!"

"Now Sae", Rebecca scolded. "Don't mislead them. You're a demon, you heal fast."

Empty

The house was so big.
So empty.
So cold . . .
An entire dimension to be all alone in.
Just the woman who spurned her and a child she did not deserve.
No warmth.
None of the music or noise she had grown so accostomed to.

Instinctively, Sae brushed a clawed hand over her face and was suprised to find it wet.
Demons don't cry, she reminded herself. Was that even possible? Humanity must have manifested in her in ways besdies her lack of wings.

When not looking after Abri, Sae spent all of her energy trying to dote on Rebecca.
Her Becca.
But, Rebecca was no Becca. No she was not the type to be called cute names or to fall into love with no thought or regret.
The probelm was, she could not dote on Rebecca if she could not find her.
And in such a large area, Rebecca could only be found when she wanted to be.
That left Sae alone with a child who could not speak to her.
Sae who was so used to her abrupt and loud lifestyle in hell, saw all this free time as its own special purgatory.

She'd liked meeting the parents at least . . .
But now they'd gone, and again, she felt so alone.

Magical Cure

She shouldn't be doing this.
She knew she shouldn't be doing this.
Ans yet, if there was any chance of saving her relationship, she was willing to ignore the nagging feeling that she was doing soemthing terribly wrong.

Sae had dug up an old magic book, one that had been a gift at her birthing ceremony, in the mistaken hope that she would be a demon that would make her family proud. It was believed that without her wings she was no demon and she was forbidden demon magic as a result. But in this twisting dimension with so many places for the love her life to hide from a her, a little magic, seemed like the only chance.

She buried herself in the book. Practicing until she was near collapse. She'd almost got the location spell right. Only one more minute and--

Rebecca walked into the room holding Abri, she looked worried. "Have you been eating? It's just that, no food has gone missing for the last few days and..."
She trailed off feeling uncomfortable at showing such concern.

Sae smiled.

Some things were solved just fine without magic.

Betrayal?

Rebecca had never seen Sae look so upset.

Her eyes were only half open. In silver-indigo eyeshadow and black mascara she looked like a tragic heroine from a film. Her hair had been done special, it feel attractively around her face in different layers and her pouting mouth was golssy and strawberry colored. She'd just come from the saloon. Sae, as girly as she was had been thrilled about the special treat. And Rebecca had taken her to a sushi restraunt. It had been the perfect afternoon for Sae. She felt that Rebecca was showing affection towards her. Rebecca had found a babysitter for Sae, she'd treated her at the saloon and took her out to sushi and now . . . this.

They were in a doctor's waiting room. Rebecca's purpose for the whole afternoon was revealed and Sae felt betrayed. She had herself curled up in her chair with her eyes averted from Rebecca.

"Why not you?" Sae said after a long pause, refering to Rebecca's talent as a doctor.

"Would you have allowed me?"

"No", Sae admitted sadly. She would have never letherself be cornered into a situation like this had she known.

"I'm worried about you."

"Wonderful". Sae wasn't enjoying the role reversal any more than Rebecca was.

They were called into one of the little doctor's office rooms by a woman who looked less healthy than the patients.

Sae was measured and weighed. The woman touched Sae's hips and frowned. "Under weight."

Rebecca had been expecting it, but even so, her heart sank to hear. Sae had spent that week not eating so that she could learn some silly spell. "And it's all my fault", thought Rebecca. "If only. . ." But, it was too late for such things.

Rebecca thanked the woman and they left.

"It's my turn to take care of Sae", she thought, but she knew she'd promised this before.
