This is pretty sketchy..
----------
1. North Advantages: had more states, miles of railroad, manufactured goods, production of food, and population
South Advantages: more profit from exports and having the North fight in their territory
2. The North had a greater chance in the long-term war because they had a higher population which would supply more volunteers. They also had more manufactured goods to provide supplies for the war. They had more miles of railroad that allowed them to transport troops and supplies further and faster. They had greater production of food which prevented poverty.
3. The Union’s main goal is to save the Union. As the war progressed freeing the slaves was just as important as saving the Union.
4. The Union soldiers fought the war to keep peace, for the country, honor, pay for debts owed, and for the love of their country.
5. The Confederate soldiers fought for their own liberties, home, and impressions. They also fought so northerners wouldn’t steal their money, land, families, etc.
6. North’s Anaconda Plan – (1) Capture Richmond, (2) Control the entire Mississippi River, (3) Secure Kentucky and Tennessee, (4) Set up a Blockade
It took them time to achieve all of their goals. Grant held Vicksburg, Mississippi ( Last Southern hold on the Mississippi River ) from May to July 1863. No supplies were sent in and Vicksburg was under attack at all times. General John Pemberton surrendered to Grant and the Union controlled all of the Mississippi River.
Union army tried to gain control of Chattanooga, TN (railroad center near the TN-GA border) which resulted in a siege. The siege was broken in November by Grant & Sherman and the Confederates retreated to Georgia. The Union had control of TN and the railroads into the Deep South.
The Union Blockade prevented food and supplies from going in or out and caused civilians to suffer. Poverty became an issue in the Confederate States.
After the Confederates retreated from the siege at Petersburg, Richmond would fall to the Union. Jefferson Davis abandoned Richmond and burned the city. Richmond was captured by the Union.
----------
7. (1) Defend home territory, (2) Keep war going until Union got tired of fighting and recognize southern independence, (3) Get help from Britain and France.
They weren’t very successful because after the First Battle of Bull Run in July1861, both sides realized the war was going to last much longer. Britain and France never helped the Confederates because they didn’t want to help the losing side. (After battle of Antietam on Sept 1862) Their home territory ended up getting destroyed because most battles were fought on the Confederate’s side. They did very well with their goals up until Sherman’s March.
8. The Union’s goal for the blockade was to stop cotton from being exported and manufactured goods from being imported. It was dangerous for the south because if they can’t receive any manufactured goods than they won’t have any supplies to win the war. If they can’t sell their cotton they won’t get profits to make a living by. Poverty would become an issue.
9. President of United States: Abraham Lincoln.
President of Confederate States: Jefferson Davis
10. The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in the Confederate States.
11. The Union army will be enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation.
12. Lincoln justified his action of freeing the slaves by saying he is the commander-in-chief. He didn’t free slaves everywhere because he didn’t want to push the border states and make them secede.

Pretty much old stuff. gonna continue.
