Has anyone else read this one? People always whine about how manga that isn't Japanese in the first place is so bad, but The Dreaming by Queenie Chan really shatters that viewpoint.
I got it from the library on a whim, and I really enjoyed it! (That seems to be the story for me with most books and manga I get at the library for the heck of it.) I only got the first volume, but I'm picking up the second one on Saturday. I don't believe the third (and final) volume is out yet? I already can't wait for it, and I haven't even gotten to the second one! Speaking of which, I can't wait for Saturday so I can read the second one...
The Dreaming is about these twin sisters who go to an Australian boarding school out in the bush, and as it turns out, there are all kinds of terrifying legends and stories surrounding it... Most notably, the ones about the people who have gone into the bush at night and never returned! Upon their arrival, the sisters begin to have the same dream every night, and the more they learn about the school, the more the dream begins to connect to the legends about it.
Based off the first volume alone, this is a delightful, gripping tale of horror and drama, with lots of questions to be answered, strong and three-dimensional characters, and beautiful art. I'd reccomend it to anyone who likes intriguing stories, as well as people who enjoy manga that breaks away from all the cookie-cutter, overly similar ones out there.

I read volume one and two, and I really loved them! I'm not sure if I'm going to get volume 3 when/if it's out, because when I look at my manga-drawer, I'm afraid it'll collapse of something :P It's a really intruiging (sp? the more I look at it, the weirder it looks :P) story, isn't it? ^^

I think I was mistaken in my initial post, because voule three is out, but my library does not have it! Gar! *shakes fist* I really want to read it, so I suppose I should buy it... But it will look wierd on my bookself without books one and two there!
Out of curiousity, have you read Bizenghast? I read it right after I read The Dreaming, and really liked it. It's another creepy-type manga. Very different than The Dreaming as far as the plot goes, but the overall, haunting, suspenseful feel is there. The art is really gorgeous in Bizenghast, too, and you don't find to many manga where the art is totally breath taking.

I only read volume one, in fact i bought it. I think they never came out with the 2nd here because it wasn't very popular.
The story is ok, but it couldn't really hold my attention. I wasn't to crazy about the artwork either. But yeah that's just my personal point of view.

3 months later.. Haha, I forgot a bit about this thread, until I saw it again at my subsciption list xD
Really? Maybe I'll buy book three :) I've reread volume 2 a while ago, and it's still scary, haha xD
But manga's so expensive here! :( Why don't they have manga at our library?!
..or does it? *checks site* ..er, nope, it doesn't. DAMN. >_<
I've 'read' a bit of Bizenghast on the site of Tokyopop (or Shojobeat, I'm not sure), but that was with voices and sound and it was irritating, and I don't think I'll be able to read it online because it's not scanlated because it's naturally english :(
It looked interesting though, so maybe if I ever get the chance, I'll read it :)
Ah, I love the artwork of Queenie Chan! It's really it's own style, without oversized eyes and big hair :P If it were like that though, it wouldn't be a creepy manga at all xD
