My sister and I missed the second episode! I hate chorus trips... we got to the hotel at 10:00 Alabama time, and I went to sleep at 11:00. I don't know why long bus rides are so exhausting....

Ooh, I saw the commercial for this and was extremly excited and litterally screamed when it was Joss Whedon. I love his works and he is AMAZING. I was waiting for something else to come from him. I own all of Buffy [ my least favourite ], Angel and Firefly. There are more from him I need I think, but this Dollhouse show I have to watch. It looks good and I was angry I missed the premere [ I spelt that wrong. ] So I will love it! I know it, just from the commercial I loved it. ♥

I've been watching the past 3 or so weeks and it's interesting enough to catch my attention. I don't know if it will keep it though before it actually kind of hits on the main point of the show...

If you watch it within a week of airing, it counts towards the viewership ratings. So watch it online!

Wow, tonight's episode was intense. From the previews I thought that it would have been the series finale and I missed the words... Real interesting, I thought they were going to have to go a different direction with the show after that! I really hope this series stays on. I think Whedon is trying to make sure it can stop after the 13 episodes.

I love this series! Joss Whedon has such ingenuity when it comes to psy-fi originality. Not that human-drones is original, but his take on it certainly is.

I still have to watch tonight's episode so I won't read the spoilers about it yet.

However, @fairywaif, I sure hope it goes seasons longer than 13 episodes! Nobody casts Eliza Dushku better than Joss, I swear.

I'm really glad this show shows her versatility as an actor.

Spoiler:
Does this mean she's going to have to start from the beginning again? Does she still have unresolved issues about her boyfriend, maybe? I'm certain November is fine though. Without their memories, is it like there's an emotional imprint, or do they have a faint trace of the memory? (I think it's the latter, which leaves the question, why did it not work on them?)

SPOILERX

Okay so I watched the episode and I've determined a few things.

- Joss isn't trying to make it easier to end the show, he's making it harder through great creative skill. By making the audience think the problem's solved just for a moment, before taking that away again. It's easier to grow more attached one becomes more aware of their emotional ties to the show. I really liked the twist in this episode. How at the beginning you wonder what could have given them awareness, coincidence that this happened while they were having electrical issues, was it alpha, etc... and at the end you realize it was all mostly planned, just like what was said "Lab Rats".

I definitely don't think all is lost in the "escaping" possibility. All their memories are stored away in a computer still, so if they can somehow get those back then they'll remember who they were before they got there.

I think I may understand what Joss is trying to do with the "glitching". See, Tropher was right in saying the brain is much like a computer. Memories are stored in nerve filaments. I don't know the implicit details of how the brain operates, but I do know that even by "deleting" a file, it is possible to find it again with the right tools.
So with the brain, what they're doing is much like induced amnesia. Patients with who suffer from amnesia can often remember what's been lost. In fact, many eventually do years down the line. Different things can trigger them, a smell, a name, a feeling if you will. Now computerized amnesia is different, but the same in many ways. What it looks like they're doing is taking the memories out through microwaves and converting them into packets of information a computer can process and store, and vice versa. But like I said with computers; whatever you do to the memory control center leaves an imprint. Anything the brain experiences leaves an imprint. So all the different "engagements", all of the dolls' lives before being dolls, and everything they do while in the dollhouse. It's all in there somewhere, but it's corrupted and basically switched off. The brain is told they don't exist, so it doesn't try to access the memories.

This technology doesn't exist, at least I hope it doesn't, because I can see how this would cause serious repercussions. For example:
- Microwave interference could alter whatever they're originally trying to do, meaning it would either have to be incredibly well designed so that whatever photons are being directed that they are sure they won't be inhibited by the medium between their senders and the receiver.
- Memories re-written over old ones can either make or break what they're trying to do, because some of the old markup can surface and interfere with their present "personality". This obviously has come into play in recent episodes.
- If the brain is so similar to a computer then I would worry about the damage re-programming it does, and if it happens too much it could start effecting other things. Think about it, the brain controls everything your body does. What might begin with "digestive issues", or "circulatory problems", might result in the brain making the heart pump differently or it might forget to tell a part to do something (like move a leg when walking). This is the scariest idea of all. Basically, it could create serious mental illnesses.
'-> And what then would you suggest? If you knew someone would forever be handicapped by their brain because of technologies effect? Theoretically anything done could be fixed, but the technology required to successfully repair a basically-fried brain would have to be way more advanced than what caused the problem in the first place. I mean, that kind of technology would be what was originally intended in the first place.

Okay, so basically I've allotted that the technology in the show is not so sophisticated. So they're basically doing a whole matrix download thing on these people and giving them a lifetime's worth of knowledge in all kinds of lethal abilities. Note: Alpha? And there's supposed to be a dollhouse in every major city? Shat... That brings a whole new meaning to "Global Domination".

Eeeks! I am so excited to see more episodes of this show!

I really love it. Olivia Williams and Dichen Lachman are amazing. Eliza Dushku is pretty good too, but I hate the way she walks. It always looks like she has to take a bad poop.

If anyone creates this technology, it would definitely be the military. They're already working on a pill that can prevent memory formation. The next step will be getting rid of memories.

I think something caused the dolls to glitch in the first place, which is why those memories stuck. Obviously strongly emotional memories would come first, but as you said they're obviously all still there, simply deeply buried.

Also, a point of this is they probably are hurting their brains but this corporation doesn't care.

Exactly! It's just confusing how there's supposed to be like a thousand of these buildings in operation and yet they're having so many glitchy problems with them. Course, the other places could just be killing off any malfunctioning dolls. The owner of this one establishment seems to have a soft spot for her dolls, even if it is very well hidden and somewhat controlled.

Speaking of her, I loved her in second last episode when she was high! "I'm just so british!" haha. I love how Joss makes fun of his british characters but still makes them seem smart and powerful at the same time.

That episode was amazing in general. And they could have the glitches too, it could be they kill them or they have another wipe like when they're first entered. Or it could be that Echo's special and she changes those she's with. It could also be that this is the first one and it's developed problems. I'm certain we'll find out more next episode.

Yeah, and maybe other ones too like those left by the drug. Who knows! Joss has so many options, I can't wait to see which he picks!

I actually got to watch it when it aired for once! :O

Wow. Dominic died; I didn't see that coming--not like that. Nor his spying.

And sheer amazement at the fact that Echo realized that people are wipeable.

I wonder if they WILL be released after their contracts are up. I mean, it's not like they're going to yell at Ms. DeWitt about it if they're stuck that way forever; they wouldn't know.

So, I TiVoed all the episode then marathon watched them this weekend.

Love it. Miss the typical "Whedon" dialogue, but it's really good. It's like Joss has grown up and decided he wanted to do a less teen-themed show. (I know Firefly wasn't teen-themed, but honestly it did best among 17-24 yr olds).

I hope FOX keeps it. What is doing taking another show to Fox anyway? Oh and I hope for a Nathan Fillion guest spot, even though he's on Castle now.

(BTW: Nathan Fillion - Castle, David Boreanaz- Bones, Summer Glau - Terminator; the man knows how to start a career or two.)

Me either! I wasn't expecting that one. His position on the matter was strange too, he was there to make sure the dollhouse didn't fail? I suppose even the guardian of a lethal weapon needs a guardian >.> They could keep them for years if they wanted to, and they would be none the wiser. When they got out they could be programed not to notice that it's been longer then planned. Also, imagine they make an army of sleeper agents that can be woken with a simple phone call... creepy.

The dialogue has been shortened it's true, but the age range is still the same as it was for firefly I think, maybe a tiny bit larger. He chose to stay with fox because they got a new owner. Man does he ever, his act(ors)(resses) have such a great opportunity working with joss.

[EDIT] Maybe this will revive this thread. I just saw Episode 13 (weeks delayed airing) and I'm wondering what other people thought of it. Very Terminator if you ask me. I can see why Fox chose this over season a million of Terminator: SCC.

Anybody have any comments? This episode totally put a twist on everything. Crazy shenanigans!
