This is a place were people help other people with writers block. Characters, plot, settings, anything. Ask your questions and I'm sure someone can help you.

Some ways I find useful when it comes to writers block are:
-Talking it out like get a tap recorder or on your cell phone. Talk out what your trying to write then play it back a few times until you get the right words in your head, then write them down.
-Write a part that comes easy. Whether its at the beginning, middle, or end. Then write what goes around it. It helps to have that support.
-Free write. Any one will tell you this. Free write for like 10 minutes. Dont stop. For anything. No texting or phone calls or emails. Cover your screen with paper and just write. Forget the spelling mistakes and grammar.
-Take a walk. Dont think about writing just walk. Catalog what you see. Then go home and write it down.
-Go some place new. Take one notebook and one pen (or pencil what ever you write with) Go to a park or sit on the railroad tracks 10 miles out of town. The new look will inspire new words.

Thats just a few things I find helpful. What do you find helpful?

Usually when I'm stuck with a plot I'll write a side story on the one I'm doing, going down different paths I might have taken to inspire me on the one I'm actually on. Or I'll write a short story with the same people/couple in a completely different setting. There are also some cool meme's out there that give me ideas too.
lol although most of the time I have to admit I move on to a completely different story and go back to the other one later. Sometimes it's just that you've been staring and straining for so long that you just need a fresh start and outlook, writting something else helps with that.

I tend to move on to more stories then come back later. Right now I have a 200 page story I wrote years ago that Im working on. I write so different now, its kind of hard to go back.

I completely agree with the 'going someplace else' thing. Personally, I work better outside, but it's hard to tear me away from the computer when I'm not reading. Haha!

I have a prompt book called 3 A.M. Epiphany that suggests a type of scene, characterization, perspective or one of many other things, and it's really useful! I use it quite a bit, especially for help with plot and such.

Another thing I do is talk about it with a friend. This can be a little hard since I only have a few friends who will actually listen and be helpful, but when I can get them it's wonderfully helpful to me!

Another one I do is listen to lyric-less music and write a scene that takes place during that music. I suppose it could work for music with lyrics too, but then I just start singing along. Heh.

But, to be honest, one of the most useful things to me is fan-fiction. To me, it's not anything anyone is going to see/read, and it means that I don't have to come up with much characterization or world-building or anything! Just make two characters, who are already made, talk. I'd never show it to anyone any more (I am shocked at my bravery that I used to. Euch.), but it's wonderful to help break me out of slumps.

@Bookbreath: Oh I know what you mean. I have one from three years ago that I was going to finish when I realized that none of it made sense any more. (I've drastically changed the world it takes place in.) Which is kind of a bummer since I feel rather obligated to it.

Some more tips I thought of.

-Take a shower, and change cloths. Get a fresh start.
-Quit beating yourself up. You cant write if your all mad at yourself for not being able to write.
-Just stretch. Get the blood pumping.
-Make a ritual. Get a glass of water every half hour. Eat a piece of candy every page. Do 3 push-ups every 3 pages.
-Listen to new music. If you listen to Rock, listen to jazz. Country? Pop? Heavy Metal? Something new.
-Write crap. It doesnt have to make any seance at all, just finish something. It might spark something good.
-Turn off every application you dont need. No internet, games, msn, AOL, yahoo, nothing.

I hope some of this helps.

lol that why I try to not wait too long. My wirting style changes with my moods and what I've been reading recently. I've tried to go back and rewrite a story from years ago to make it better but I just don't have the patience to fix everything. Some of them would need to be completely rewritten they are so horrible. XD

I have had a horrible problem with writers block for a long time now. Longest it lasted so far was 5 years or so. And I again have it. I have this little thing about writing. I have to be inspired to write something, no matter what it is. I have to have something hit me and words flow through my mind in order to write anything good at all. I actually waited a week or so to get inspiration to write a fanfiction before ; ; I spent 7 yrs or so trying to write a book. I have about 4 revised copies of it and I couldn't get it over 50 pages long. It was a fiction work on a ghost story in England. I tried so hard to finish it but couldn't get it to work that well. I have no idea what it could be that is causing this. I am in the plans of writing another fanfiction. A snow white plotline one. I told my husband about it to see what he thought, which didn't really help much. I plan on watching the movie first to get a better idea on how to write it out though. I am hoping that helps me. *crosses fingers & toes*

Good luck, Saiyouri! Hope you break through your block!

What either helps or burns me is idea bouncing with other people. This helps arrange the ideas, but sometimes it makes me lose the inspiration to actually write the story out. It's kinda like, well, I told someone now, so that's it. I suppose it depends.
