I needed cheering up this evening, so I pulled up Galaxy Angel -- I'm less than three minutes into it, and am fully un-bluesed. I love the way the show uses caricatures of famous characters (like Rei Ayanami...). The soundtrack is super-over-done, but it's great.

Discuss: the lovely intricacies of Galaxy Angel's hilarity, from the names (Forte Stollen, Ranpha Framboise...) to the settings (I swear that's Ursa Minor Beta from Douglas Adams' universe in the first episodes) to the plots ... which I can't remember, they're so full of fluff!

Oh!

My friend, Shelby, is crazy about that anime!

My favorite character is 'Vanilla', she's so serious and her owl/bear baby that talks makes me happy.

Vanilla is obviously a ripoff of Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion. In NGE, Rei is beyond soft-spoken to almost silent, responding only in quiet monosyllables, with no inflection. Vanilla is really similar -- they got a seiyuu with a similar voice, too. Additionally, Rei has white-blue hair and red eyes, with a pointed chin.

I think Ranpha is a parody of Sailor Moon (or maybe the early Cutie Honey) or perhaps every pigtailed heroine. Not sure about Forte Stollen, who is totally my favorite character.
