I just finished my pixel doll...however, I procrastinated until now because I dreaded doing the hair...Sooooo...I need highlighting/shading tips...I read all the tutorials on the web and I just don't grasp it. :sweat:

LOOK BELOW FOR EDITED VER...and then look below again...

It's quite small...Start small, move to big :angel: however, it's not my usual doll...Anyways, I used dithering on the shirt/dress thing...thats me, Dither-girl :D

oh when giving me tips, keep in mind that I have MS Paint, so don't use any fancy Photoshop language (dodge,burn,magic wand,layers, etc...):insane:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I edited it...more pretty accessories ^^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WITH BACKGROUND!!!!
okay, this is the third edit ^^
It's cute and the shading is nice, there's just not much to her. She seems to be missing something. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe add some accessories? (hair barrettes, bracelet, etc..) A background always makes my stuff feel finished, but that doesn't work for everyone. One tip, try working with medium sized bases rather than small. Small seems easier, but you can't add quite as much detail. Angy Chan, SCA, Star Girl, and Mariii all have great medium sized bases you can start with. Send me a PM if you have any questions or need more doll sites. ^-^
That looks a lot better and more finished. Great job on all the details. When you start making more, you should work on getting a site together. Freewebs (webs.com) is a great free host if you ever make one. Keep it up. ^-^
It is very adorable.
May I suggest some sort of dithered background? The doll itself has a simple design (not bad, but simple), and a simple background will tie it in together. Or wings... or something. And then I think you can probably call it done.
I like the design, and especially the hair. The style came out great and it has real flair.
(In my humble opinion, MS Paint is better than photoshop for straight pixeling. It'd be wonderful if there was a program that was almost entirely like MS Paint with layers, though)
^I use photoshop for straight pixeling and feel that it works great. I do think there's a program more like paint with layers, but I can't remember what it's called.
Maybe it's because I have elements then? It's more of a personal preference. Photoshop is ideal if you want special effects, but if you just want regular pixels, it can be buggy in elements.
If you want transparent/opacity settings, Photoshop and similar programs are really the only way you can go. Paint can't do it.
Although for this doll, I think those special effects are not necessary.
I use CS2. The main things that Photoshop and similar programs are good for are layers and transparency/opacity. Other than that, not completely necessary for regular pixels.
....I do like to draw...So, I may need a digital art program soon...Paint is not enough to make antialiasing or layers like Paint BBS or ShiPainter in the oekaki boards...
Oooh, I like the background, especially the fact that it gradually changes colors. It definitely looks like a completed doll now.
