Ugh.

Seriously. I have this concept for a book.

It's where four people suddenly wake up with the power to bend reality.

They all tell the same 'story' with some contradictions. However, all of their stories are true, due to being 'Narrators'. Beings created by God to write destiny.

They appear out of a protoform which gets assigned random memories.

But... if God made them... they couldn't have been random. Because God does not play with dice.

Why not? Because even if he DOES, being Omniscient, he would already know the outcome, defeating the dice' purpose.

BUT, since he can't play dice properly, that would cancel out his omnipotence, which would make him not God.

Basically, I want my story to make COMPLETE sense, but is that possible with the mindfuck genre?

I mean... Godlogic... Seems... Rather incomprehensible and paradoxical.

Just because you know the outcome of the dice doesn't mean they're not-random.
Think of it like this:

Knows outcome -> Doesn't bother to roll dice since it seems pointless -> Already knew he wouldn't roll dice -> The outcome is not determined by anything random and is actually His own personal choice

Compare it to:

Knows outcome -> Rolls dice -> The fall of the dice is completely random and uninfluenced by God's actions -> Proceeds with outcome as planned

Just because you know what is going to happen doesn't mean that you are completely controlling it and making that decision. Make sense?

Basically. but then since it's 'As planned', it still turns it into a plan. And the point of the story is basically God experimenting with the universe... and the Narrators.

Not all forms of God are omnescient. The Roman Gods, for instance, didn't know everything, not even about themselves. Just make God a little more human. If you do it right, no one will even care they're not utterly omnescient. If you have to do a Christian form of God, then make it more like picking them out of a hat, I guess. (Although he'd still know, wouldn't he?)

Unfortunately, the type of God I wanted to use was... THE God.

Basically, the problem lies in if God already knows the answer, why not just use the ones that he knows without rolling the dice. But then, that would basically neutralize his ability to know the future, etc etc.

Basically: the mindfuck that I end up writing will have one big, gaping logic hole.

No wonder you're an atheist, dear brother...

You decide if you want Him to not know everything (which might cancel out His perfection), or to let Him be what He is now (but that wouldn't be so exciting, would it??)

You can do it, bro!! <3

Hm.. if God is THE God, then wouldn't He/She/It(WHATEVER) be able to control their powers to such an extent that they would be able to stop themselves from seeing the outcomes they don't want to see, for the purpose of their own amusement?

@ Plat: That makes perfect sense. So... Evolution: Was God amused?

OMG I MADE SENSE LOL.
I've been reading a few works of experimental fiction lately. My mind seems to be at an odd place.

My previous post was such a horrid run-on! XD

Haha, I have to wonder about that. I'm agnostic, which completely horrifies my parents. I can see God being very amused at people's reactions to evolution.

Hmm... you might go a bit biblical on it. The bible says god KNOWS the ultimate outcome, but humans were given free will.

Kinda like Alice from Twilight. He can see the future, but the future is always changing. He knows the ultimate outcome, but isn't checking every minute detail about how it gets there.

Hm.

Why not change it to a messenger of God (an angel perhaps), gives them the powers to bend reality to what they think is the best for humanity (perhaps in this book's reality, things are pretty bad for humans).

And I say just ignore the "all knowing god" nonsense.

I have just got to say, how did you come up with this idea. It's intresting and contriversal, depending on who ask. Will you post the story later?

Anyways, I kind of like the idea of PlatiumChild. It would make for a really humorous story.
