So, Disney just bought Marvel for four billion dollars >___<;;; Is this a good thing - maybe higher salaries and acquisition of more talent (and maybe fewer lunatics running the asylum), or is Disney going to drive the comics into the ground/stop the more adult titles like Deadpool/destroy everything we held dear? On the other hand, Pearlmutter is staying in charge, so will anything really change? Certainly Disney has brought out adult properties before - they own both Miramax and ABC.
Most worryingly, what does this impend for other properties attached to Marvel - especially film and video game licenses? While I'm not that worried about the video games (as they've mostly been atrocious; maybe completely), the films are a different matter - I'd love to see more films like Iron Man come out; can anyone fill me in on the status of the films? I'm not sure who the rights belong to.

Just because there's a Disney name on it doesn't mean it's for kids. Disney has already said that they aren't going to mess with any on going projects and are going to resprect all copy rights. I just can't wait to see the x-men in a kingdom hearts game lol!!

I personally think nothing will change, Disney's owns alot of industries like ABC and so on and they really haven't changed all that much. However if I pick up a comic book next month and Jean Grey's alive again..I'm blaming Disney.

Psh, comic characters never die; it's like a revolving door to the afterlife xD Especially with Jean >__< She's had more resurrections then a Time Lord. I understand they were even planning it - I don't remember the phrasing, but I believe that someone said something at an interview panel in Comic-Con...?
X-men in a Kingdom Hearts game? *shudder*

Hm I don't know, I don't hope the Disney concern won't interfere too much with what Marvel is doing, that could easily ruin it DX

Honestly, there will probably be a few new Marvel items or titles that will be aimed more towards children (or maybe not!), but all of the existing stuff is likely to remain the same. I don't think Disney wants to face down hordes of angry Deadpool fans who have decided that emulating their hero would be the best course of action!!! But seriously, Disney bought Pixar and nothing bad happened to them. What this probably means (because no one knows for sure) is bigger budgets for Marvel movies and more "Spiderman and Friends" titles to get them hooked early. And is that really a bad thing?

I don't trust Disney they seem to think they can slap their name on anything. Producing it doesin't count for creative licence in my book. Unless you had a creative hand in it keep your stinking name off of the cover.
But I'm starting to think the merger is due to the rival studio WB. They've owned DC for a number of years. So Disney probably wants to be a part of that as they do with everthing else. Whether their good at it or not meaning they turn out alot of cheesy garbage. Money and dollar signs is all a company like Disney sees. Not Creativity and quality.
The Jean point is intereting but it wouldn't be Disney who would bring back dead characters. It would be Marvel, they've been doing that for ages. Everyone knows the horrific death that Electra suffered and yet they brought her back anyway. Along with a number of long thought dead charaters Jean included.

All Disney bought was the right to have theme park rides and movies. They will not touch the comic books or cartoon movies or anything around that nature. They didn't buy all of marvel just a few stocks

LOL Alice and Spidy team up to take out The Green Goblin and Queen of Hearts! I honestly think Marvel did it's fans a big disservice by allowing Disney to buy them. If they were going under they should have had the dignity to just go down. Or let DC buy them. I am not a major Marvel Fan and I don't see great things to come for them. I mean especially with the rather risque subject matter in some of the comics marvel puts out. Some top what was done in Pirates by far.

Yeah the risque content is why I've been hesitant to go back to Marvel. When I stopped reading X-Men they kept switching writers and artists left and right. The story and image quality and just wasn't there anymore. I miss the good old days when character developement and story quality trumped everything. Apparently that doesn't matter anymore and all people think is that smutty content and vilolence sells. Back in the old days it was the groundbreaking story arcs that would make people want to read Marvel's comics. So maybe some of what Disney well do can change that.

Hmmmm maybe... Disney is somewhat grounded in actual story telling. Maybe they could bring that stuff back to Marvel. It seems to me that they are trying to do what happens in the movies of the comics, in the comics themselves. Does that make any sense?

I love Disney, but i am very disappointed in them for buying Marvel. My brother now thinks that they'll have Spider-Man shoot flowers out of his hands and have Wolverine shave his sideburns. And if you looked through deviant Art when this whole thing started, you'd notice a hell lot of fanart of Goofy as Thor and Mickey as Wolverine or whatever.
All I can say about this is that I figured that Disney did by some copyrights of the characters because they play some Marvel-related series on Toon Disney or whatever it's called. But Now they bought the entire damn company...what. So yeah, those are my thoughts...bleh..

I know right? It's insane! Can't they come up with their own stinking superheroes instead of buying Marvels?

Well the only good thing I see is that at the very least they'll make more movies and television series. Whether those movies/series are any good is a different matter. Hopefully they don't mess with the comics too much or if they do it'll only serve as an improvement. I know my first reaction to Disney buying Marvel was "Are you serious?" ^^;

Sigh it's a big mistake. Some suit was probably conjuring up some crazy money making scheme and this is what they came up with. I think their trying to keep up with WB. Who have owned DC for ages and they put out quality animation. The same can't be said for Disney though. Based on their crappy sequils and movies in the past several years it'll be a shock if they come out with anything decent that's super hero related.
