I haven't taken the language but so far everything I've read or heard is just about exactly as it's spelled. Each letter is pronounced as it is written

I don't think anyone implied anything about being rude. It's just a diccusion.
Some people are more mindful of different languages than others. So it depends on that for if a person would try to pronounce things correctly. No one was saying that everyone should. In my points I was merely saying they should try. It's polite if your speaking to someone of another lanuage. Say on vacation for instance. People do appreciate the effort even if it isn't completly correct.
