Right now, I'm reading The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. I just started on the section about weaponry and it's pretty interesting so far.

I don't know if I would call it a sequel - you could probably read Anansi on it's ow and be fine- but you understand more if you read American Gods first :yes:

Thanks for the Hogfather recommendation - I'll put a hold on it at the library right now :)

@Shinigami: I've heard about that book...one of my zombie-obsessed friends read it...probably several times. >_>; Speaking of zombies...I really want to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. ^_^

Hope it's alright that I just blast in here. I'm reading a bunch of short stories right now. I'm in uni so I hardly read things that are not school related. That sorta bums me out, though, cuz I signed up for the 50 Book Challenge and the school work is mostly short stories - which are obviously not books. so even though I read a lot, I'm not actually finishing any books. T^T

EDIT: I did start to read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It wasn't my thing, personally. :/ It was more graphic than I expected, but it did have funny parts.

My brother read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - he said it would be better if Pride & Prejudice wasn't woven into the story :XD

Apparently my brother is not an Austen fan

@Sia: Alright, well that's good to know. ^_^ And yeah...I don't think too many boys are Austen fans, haha! XD

@Mwa: Don't worry...you're definitely not barging in. XD;; The more people we get talking here, the better! ^_^ And yeah, I understand your pain when it comes to school. Are there any good short stories that you've gotten to read so far?

@sia: Classic literature with zombies? I like that idea. Zombies make everything more exciting.

@siaasgn: LOL. that's funny. I couldn't get my brother to read it surprisingly. He's all about zombies. :/
@Deletris: the unfortunate event series? I liked the cover art and the movie, but was generally not overly interested in reading the series. So weird, right?

I'm hoping to read "John Dies at the End" soon, but it's one of those books you have to REALLY search for because pop culture sorta wins out in regards to stock.

@Deletris: Ooh...the Unfortunate Events series...I've been wanting to read those ever since they first came out. Once again though...school puts serious limitations on what I can do with my free time. ;_;

@Shinigami: Yeah, I know...great, huh? There's a new one too...Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters. I wonder what they'll put out next! XD

@Mwa: I haven't heard of this John Dies at the End book...what's it about?

John Dies at the End is a comedy/horror book about people who, after some sort of experiment/test/thing, know waaaay too much. Like in the first bit, that I read on amazon, the main character is talking to a journalist and tells him loads of personal info about him (the journalist). Plus the title is rad. :}

Mwa- That sounds like a fabulous read! I must put it on hold at the library!

In other news, I am quite excited to see a thread for bookworms, and I imagine I will be spending a fair bit of time here!

@CastellaStar: It's a series? Who's the author? I'd love to read them.

I haven't read anything by Donna Jo Napoli, but currently I'm making my way through the 501 Must-Read Books list. I'm currently at 7/501, and am reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein right now.

Before that I read The Lightning Thief (not on 501, lol), and I'm also perusing through Watership Down by Richard Adams, and Mort by Terry Pratchett.

I just can't seem to settle in and read one book at a time! Derp

Oh, I adore Watership Down! It is one of my favorite books of all time. How do you like it?

@Mwa: Yes, the title is definitely an attetion-catcher...sounds interesting. You'll have to give us your review of it whenever you finish reading it. If it's a good review, maybe I'll add it to my ever-growing list of things to read. ^_^

@Iltu: Yay! Always glad to have more people join in. :3

@Shinigami: The books are actually written by two different authors, but their published by the same company. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith...and then Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters is by Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters.

@hrairoo: Watership Down is a fantastic book...one of my favorites! :D And how was The Lightning Thief? That's another one I'm wanting to read. I'm hoping to see the movie too...

@hrairoo: I bet that's an intense list. I wish you luck! I'm sure it'll be fun to go through all 501.
@Iltu: My older brother was named after a character in Watership Down. It was altered a bit, but his name is El'Ahrai. He hates it, I think. His name - not the book.

Iltu: I love it! I used Fiver's Lupine name as my username here. It makes me tense though, because the characters are rabbits I expect all kinds of awful things to happen to them!Well, and I did see the movie first, haha.

@Mwa: Wow...your brother was named after one of the characters? That's so cool! What about you? Have you been named after a character from a book too? ^_^

@CastellaStar: Thank you. I'll have to try and track them down.

@Mwa: That's cool. Although I can see how someone could not like having the same name as a fictional character. I accidentally ended up with the same name (my first and middle anyway) as a video game character that I don't like. My brother still makes fun of me for it.

Hey, everyone! I haven't got to read anything but research papers recently, but I love to read. Right now, I'm halfway through 'Fantastic beasts and Where to Find Them', although I'm waiting to sink my teeth into a Ruskin Bond omnibus sometime.

Oh and I love Pratchett, heard 'Mort' being mentioned in this thread somewhere...

@Shinigami: Yeah...I can understand it too...especially if it's one of those more "unique" names. I don't think it would be so bad if the character had a normal name...because then you could look at it as either having just been given a nice name...or being named after a character.

@WhiteRiver: So you've read Pratchett then? I've read Good Omens...the one he wrote with Neil Gaiman. I've been wanting to read more by Pratchett ever since...any recommendations?

mwahhaha: It really is! I'm use to reading mainly fantasy novels, and the list is really well rounded across the different genres. There are a lot of non-fiction titles like The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon. It's going to take me out of my comfort zone, that's for sure.

But I don't expect that I will finish the list any time soon! If I read approximately four or five books per month it will still take me around ten years to finish!

@CastellaStar - I've only read a number of his 'Discworld' books, my favourites are the ones that follow the witches coven story arc - let me hunt down the names for you in a minute..

@hrairoo: Do you happen to have a copy of your book list? I would love to take a look at it! I think reading from a gigantic list of books like that would be awesome...and it would be neat to see how many of them I've already read...^_^

@WhiteRiver: Thanks! I'd appreciate it! Since you've read the Discworld books...I'm curious...do I need to read them in order? Or is it just a bunch of stand-alone books that take place in the same world?
