Hiya peoples! Unfortunate for you you've ventured into Kumie's Hangout thread! :) Lets have some fun anyways! To get the convo going I've got a question for us to start out with:


What are your favorite books?


Mine are:
Left Behind series
Harry Potter series
Twilight Series
The City of Ember
House of night Series

and these are just a few so I'd like so hear some of yours :)

There are many books I like such as Goosebumps, Harry Potter, Stephen King, Anne Rice, and many, many others.

If you like the Twilight series then you should check out the House of Night series. The books are Marked, Hunted, Betrayed...ect. That might not be the correct order though. Currently I want to buy Nightlight the Twilight parody. ^_^

When I was a kid, I loved "Little House On the Prairie".

As an adult, I've really enjoyed: Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, I loved the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and all the sequels, I absolutely adored all the books Anne Rice used to write, and just about anything that Stephen King has written, although the stuff that has come out since he supposedly retired hasn't been all that great.

I also like to read history books and books about languages and other cultures.

I liked the Sisterhood of the traveling pants books, I never got to watch the movie though.

These might not be in order, but...

"A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess
"It" by Stephen King (Read at impressionable age 13 during a hurricane... D: )
"1984" by Orwell
"Fahrenheit 451" by Bradbury (As the litfag I am, this made me shed a tear for liberty)
"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey
"Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke (Her best piece of work, imo)
"The Fellowship of the Ring" by Tolkien. I had a thing for that scene where Frodo got shanked.
that's really most of what comes to mind at the moment
And actually, the stories my bff tells are beautiful. I can't wait until she writes them.

I am... not a big Twilight fan, and that's putting it mildly. I've been a right dick about it for five years now. I've sort of made a little career out of hating it.

I hear you! Twilight is what I shall call the downfall of English literature itself.

I have alot of favorite books, I think the one that i've read over so much that I would consider it my favorite would have to be Howl's Moving Castle. I love when books have a set of characters that go on little yet interesting adventures that surprising lead up to the ending. :D I also love the spider-wick series, I mostly loved the creatures and the story-line. Though i'm not sure if this counts but I have a little yet thick book on mythology, it has a bunch of the stories shortened but still in detail, I think it is by Edith Hamilton? XD

Ugh, I know. The worst part is the adults condoning it. Disgusting! The librarians condone shipping it by saying that it "gets kids into reading." NO! It doesn't! Most of the people I know who have read Twilight don't even read other books, I try to recomend acual GOOD books but they tend to ignore me or say "they aren't as good as Twilight." D:

I feel you. It's frustrating, and when you have extremes like that, it's too easy to slip into the niche of opposition. My friends love it. Apparently, I've slipped into extremism. It's hilarious, they'll bring it up just go get me going. Twifags have sort of become an acceptable target for me to yell at in the halls... which is probably bad.
I'm usually a pretty rational guy, but that shit just grinds my gears.

My friends used to talk about for hours and used to relate things to it but when I poked fun of it and pointed out just how annoying it was they stopped talking about it thankfully. XD

My favorite books are:

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories by Tim Burton (oh. how I love that book)
Harry Potter
The Chronicles of Narnia
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
and many many others... those are just a few that I can think of at the top of my head. =P

I remember last Christmas when I found out my cousin got into Twilight. For the rest of the night I tried to convince her to read something else with vampires such as an Anne Rice book or Dracula. I DEEPLY worry about the future of English literature...

I had a friend who came up to me one day, and basically said "I'M NOT A PART OF YOUR SYSTEM, I LIKE TWILIGHT" and I was like, "what the fuck man, I never- I don't- what system?"
It was hilarious and sad.

Dracula was a good book. The chick in Twilight likes Dracula which is kinda ironic cuz the vampires in Twilight sparkle....heh sparkles. Ok had to get that outa my system. >.<

I've read all the Twilight books, they are a wase of time. I hate how predictable they are. also the part where Jacob imprints Bella's half vampire human baby is riddiculous.

I can understand that you wouldn't think it was so bad if it got you "started in reading." Yes, I've read them all. No, I didn't like them. But I was already a voracious reader when I opened up Twilight, so I had a great deal more experience with what was good literature and what is, well, shitty.

I mean, consider what Stephen King himself said: "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good."

I only managed to read a few chapters of twilight before I gave up. It was killing more brain cells than a glass of vodka.

More like nauseating. And I still don't see the big deal about nicknaming her Nessie. OH, God forbid she have a slightly silly nickname- her name is ALREADY RIDICULOUS.

Yeah that is weird about Edward but I guess once you make the vampires sparkle anything is fair game.

Well I think people are starting to get out of the faze, there are still a couple that are obsessed with it but once the stupid movies are all done I think it will die. I'm starting to worry a bit about books too since when I entered a store once there was a section JUST for vampire books, vampire books are just getting more unoriginal by the day sadly. :/
