My family has always been big on choral music, so I grew up thinking of music as one of the best ways to express the soul. Following that, there are some songs that I'm absolutely in love with because they evoke such a deep (and almost spiritual) response.

What, if any, songs do that for you? I guess this doesn't necessarily have to be love songs persay as long as they make you think of love. I'd almost prefer nontraditional ideas of love.

My absolute favorite song is Things That Never Die, a la Lee Dengler/Charles Dickens (yeah, strike me down for using cooking terms in reference to music. Go ahead, I don't care.) Unfortunately I can't find one single decent chorus singing it, the best one I found so far has horrendously flat altos. Not adding that in.
As far as nontraditional music expressing love, Even when God is Silent takes the cake. I've actually found a good chorus singing that (seen here if you like, but you'll have a better effect if you just... don't watch the video, and just listen. YouTube - Even When God is Silent- The Master's College Chorale)

Not even touching on normal pop music, those are the ones that stand out most clearly in my head right now. What about you, Menewsha?

(TL;DR: AWESOME MUSIC, NO POP SONGS PLZ )

Right now I'm completely in love with The Coventry Carol!Everyday I play Brain Age 2, and there is an exercise where you tap the notes of a song in time with it as it plays. One of the songs was The Coventry Carol, and I was so enthralled by it that I played it over and over before finally downloading it!

My all time favorites include: 'Tis the Last Rose, Nigra Sum, Oh Come Immanuel, Il dolce suono...Ardon gli incensi, Lacrimosa, and the Flower Duet.

Ohh! Conventry Carol is one of my favorites. I hate Oh My Love's Like A Red, Red, Rose. I had to sing it and it was horrible. I do love many chorus songs, many of them about love. I just can't think of them. I'm in my community college chorus. It's actually really good. I just came from rehersal actually.

It is completely beautiful isn't it?

I can sympathize with getting stuck singing a song you don't care for. In grade 11 I was forced (along with my whole vocal class) to learn a completely unthrilling song called One World. It was one of those preachy save-the-earth songs they make kids sing to wrench the hearts of adults.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for saving the Earth, but Colors of the Wind was more challenging then that song. My whole class begged our new teacher to let us keep learning Nigra Sum, but best we got was La Cucaracha. D:

Most of the chorus songs I love, or hate, are from my own experience singing them. Sometimes the director wants to play it safe, or other times, to try to push you.

I sense a McKennitt fan in this thread. If I'm wrong, I'm shocked.

EDIT: The same "One World" that Celtic Women performed? I liked it, but sounds like a choral arrangement would be, lackluster? ha. I also share the consensus on Coventry Carol. I used to not like it at all, but- but I couldn't get it out of my head once I heard it, and I guess it grew on me.

Loreena McKennitt! Duh. Oh I love her. That is the first song I heard from her too. My english teacher brought the song in when were studying the poem. I burned the cd from her too. I do like Celtic music more and more, as the years go on. She very much reminds me of Enya for some reason.

Readera: I enjoy being pushed when it comes to music. If it's too easy it becomes boring to me (and I go flat, hurhur)

Itsumou: What? I've only got Samhain Night and Bonny Portmore on my MP3 player. :P

Also it isn't the same song at all. I looked up the one you meant; it didn't seem too bad.

The one I mean...god... the lyrics were something like: We have one world, one place to call our own... and it's the only place we have to call our home.

Something simple like that. I can't remember properly, it was just too boring.

((Edit: The version of The Coventry Carol I have is sung by The Mediaeval Baebes. ))

@hrairoo I like being pushed too, but a nice mix of easy and hard songs is always good.

Bye! I have to go now. Be back later.
