Do you not have renaissance faires in your area?

I haven't ever seen or heard about any of them. Could be they don't advertise or I'm not looking hard enough.

If you want to be a fairy, you ought to look into fantasy fair(e)s.
I'm kind of hardcore about reenactment. If there is a fairy, pirate or scantily clad belly dancer about I tend to cringe a bit.
In the renaissance period people believed fairies were evil. Piracy didn't really hit full swing until about a hundred years after Henry VIII. While there might have been Gypsies entertaining in Europe during the Renaissance, they certainly would not have been scantily clad. I've spent hours upon hours researching not only the time period but also the costume of the day. I'm what you might refer to as a"costume-nazi" at times. lol!

I don't think there are Fantasy ones near here. D;
But I know they have fairies, even if they were considered evil ( o-o ), because at the glitter shop at the Ren fair, fairies work there. xD It's funny, because a couple friends of mine went and a gay guy was working there and he was REEEALLY enthusiastic about his job. He and my friend (who was a girl) were really getting along, while her boyfriend and the other worker were trying to stay far away from them. xD

@Wicked: Have you tried looking online for local renaissance faires? I find that is the best way for someone who is not a part of a guild to fins out information about them.

Now for anyone considering joining a guild for that.. i will say this... to be a good re-enactor you have to do a lot of research.. and costuming can get quite expensive, but it is SO MUCH fun.

That is possibly the most ridiculous reasons I have ever heard. I would certainly convince her to do otherwise. Corset training can be tough on your body if you don't keep yourself in decent shape. Is your friend by any chance one of those people who MUST have everyone's attention all the time?
