Poor Kay. I've never become so obsessive over a culture before. Damn you, Korea! The closest was seven years ago when I loved Finland, and I still do, but that was just a general interest.

...

@Voe: Maybe you can order online? Amazon? xD
I'm annoyed because there are certain series I really want...but they were canceled. *kicks TokyoPop* Oo, I should finish reading Tarot Cafe sometime. Who else has a style I adore...the author of Magical JxR. I wanted to find more works by the author...she's currently publishing one called Doll. *o* I had ran into her website forever ago, loved it, then ran into the manhwa in the store and had to grab them all. I went straight to one of the workers in the store and had him reorder one of the volumes they were missing. Then I stared blankly as he asked me questions. xD *terrible*

@Strawberry: There might be items in the future that'll go well with the items. ^^ I love detailed things in general. *o* Our pixelists are amazing!

ToriKat - I'll check it out, thanks! Hrm, I tend to like series that don't seem too fake, but also don't make you feel too emotionally down from crying your eyes out by the end of every episode. Some romance is fine, but nothing too gushy. Something where you actually care about the characters, and gives you insight into Korean culture.

As for study abroad, the only way I've been able to do it is with student loans. But it also not only relates to my field of study, but it is a crucial aspect of my field of study. The good news is that during grad school there should be more funding available to come over here.

Wow is it hard keeping up with this thread @[email protected]

I find manhwa bodies tend to be a bit lankier and their heads smaller...they also seem to have more angular features, but it really depends on the artist!

@Kalium I wouldn't know. I only know the basic definitions.

@Voe Oh! I might be able to get into Finnish culture! They turn out some of the best race car drivers and they read a lot.

I only collected the 2008 collectibles. I don´t have spares, though. Oh, and for some trivia, August 2008 items were the last single-pose CI´s.

I believe Manga is Japanese comics, and Manhwa is Korean comics. *note: Manhwa reads left to right, Manga reads right to left.*

What series are those that got canceled? There was a series a while back I wanted but it got canceled. For nooo obvious reason. But oh! I love Tarot Cafe. Haha, obtaining manhwa takes determination and unrelenting irritating demands. /nods

I think when it's written in korean/chinese it can be, but I've never read it like it -can't read chinese or korean  in english though, it's left to right. Where as Manga translated still reads right to left ... >.>

@Shimawa: Ee, I'd suggest avoiding Stairway to Heaven then. That series is emotionally draining. One of my friends who never gets emotional actually started crying during it.

What I liked about Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang was that it showed segments in the past as comedy, then the actual show had the modernized version. It was kind of interesting to see the past versus now versions. So they had dancers and stuff in the past...and modern day is more like the clubs, karaoke bars, stuff like that.

I think I'd recommend trying out My Lovely Kim Sam Soon. What made it so popular was that Korean women could relate to the main character - she was older, single, a little round faced, and more focused on her career. It's a romantic comedy too.

A lot of Korean dramas have love triangles - namely one woman and two guys. There's kind of a shortage of women in the country. That's why a lot of country people will arrange marriages with Vietnamese, Philippinos and so on. I think My Golden Bride addressed marrying a half Vietnamese woman? I'm not sure. @[email protected]

The first manga to be translated into English was mirrored, but then the readers complained about it. Am I right?

Heh. The Koreans should look for Russian wives. In Russia, there is a shortage of men, so they are talking about polygamy.

One of the first manga translated into English and marketed in the U.S. was Keiji Nakazawa's Barefoot Gen, an autobiographical story of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima issued by Leonard Rifas and Educomics (1980–1982)
