Hey everyone~ Just wondering if anyone out there in Menewsha land participated in NaNoWriMo '09 last November? If you did, did you win? What was your novel about?

And of course, the number one question on the NaNo boards: What was your first word?

Mine was a fake sequel to one of my real works. The only thing was that it assumed an alternate ending to the prequel. It was called Cachinnation of Precipitation. Terrible title - I know. But it was a joke that you'd only get if you followed my works.

Basically, the novel was a mixture of fantasy and comedy. It took place in a fantasy realm wherein there existed two worlds: the physical world where you'd find beings like Bill, Fred, and Jim; and the spiritual world where you'd find beings like Wind, Battle, and Fate.

The premise of the novel is that the antagonist beat the protagonist in the prequel and crossed from the physical world to the spiritual world, grew super powerful, and was slowly capturing the spirits one by one and bringing their powers under his control. His first target was the spirits of intelligence.

Because of this, the entirety of the world that the protagonist is going to venture through, is encompassed with idiots.

But wait - there's more~

The spirits weren't going to sit idly by but they knew they were no match for the antagonist so they started to bless individuals of the physical world with their power. Unfortunately, the antagonist is pretty powerful and he kept catching them while they were performing these blessings and because of this, the "superheroes" of the world (and there are a lot of them) all have half powers.

For example:
  • The power to create flame from any part of your body (like the human torch) but no immunity to fire.
  • Telekinesis that only works on one object; a teddy bear.
  • Super strength that only works on light objects.
  • And of course the medium for some of the most comic scenes in the novel: a constant effect, area of effect super power that results in widespread bad(HORRIBLE) luck.

The list goes on but I won't bother.

So, has anyone else done NaNo or is thinking of doing it?

My roommate participated, but I'm afraid I did not. I'm not terribly good at completing stories I'm afraid. Your story sounds quite hilarious. XD

Oh it was a killer! :D Had one heck of a time editing it, I loved it so much that I had to refine myself to editing in private - else I'd be prone to sudden unexpected (and often unacceptable) laughter! There's nothing funnier than reading your own comedy. :D
