Alright, we all know Japan isn't the only one skilled in the making of mangas. Korea has a wonderful thing known as a manwha, which is pretty much their equivalent. So, which do you prefer?
I haven't read one manwha that I found myself dissatisfied with, the stories are almost always interesting and I love the Korean artstyle. : D They're just awesome.
While for me, a manga is usually a hit or miss. Sometimes I find a manga that'll be just there for satisfying fetishes or fanservice. Not that I dislike manga, there are loads of manga that I've read three times over. I usually like manga with gorgeous art styles like Petshop of Horrors or Alichino.

I do agree that I've gotten along better with mahnwa than manga, and that its artwork, specially in historical pieces, is beautiful. However, manga has something going for it that mahnwa cant seem to take away: variety. You find manga of so many things, for so many reasons, that any person is sure to have a style they like, with diversity among each style. Sure, there are plenty of look-alikes, in both genres (personally I cant distiguish between many shojo artists in both Japanese and Korean comics, but that's just me). But each has its own thing going for them, their own strengths and weaknesses. My favorite series is a Mahnwa, i'm proud to say, but, alas, it'll never turn into an anime because of that. How I wish they would animate more mahnwa, and maybe that way level the playing field a bit.

I love both equally. Yen Plus has some great manwha. One Fine Day is the cutest thing I've ever seen on paper.

Yea, I know what you mean on that. Manga definately has alot more variety. There's probably a manga for just about anything. xD I'm just alot pickier with my manga, whereas I'm way more lenient with manwha- for example, I'll read a manwha that has yaoi even though I hate yaoi. xD And it's only because the story is so engaging or the characters are so much more lovable.

I like both. I don't think you can really compare them and say one is better than another. It's true that I've read manga I haven't liked and I've never read a manhwa I didn't like. However, I've read a ton more manga than I have manhwa. I think I've read maybe three or four manhwa? Anyway, first one was Le Bijou which was fantastic.
I don't know if it's really that manga has more variety than manhwa or even that there's more of it, but manga is certainly more mainstream outside of Japan than manhwa is outside of Korea. Manga is just far more readily available to us than manhwa is.

I had never heard of manwha until I read this thread. I looked it up.
This is my opinion:
I don't really think that I would ever choose one or the other. I've never read ANY Manwha before but I know that if I found some that I like, I wouldn't say "This is better than manga". I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't judge either as a whole, rather, I judge series by series. So if I found a series that I liked and it happened to be Japanese, I wouldn't automatically think that manga is better.
idk does that make sense?
However, I looked through scans of a manwha online, it's called Goong. I have to say that I really dislike the art style in this particular series.
click
That guy looks like a freak, his head is so tiny and his body is so big.
click 2
I also really dislike the way their faces look. Their lips are horrendous and their eyes are just gross. They look brain dead.
I'm not sure if all manwha is like this so I'm not going to judge it based on this one crappy series.
I really don't like very many manga series, and a lot of that has to do with the art style. I hate manga that looks like everything else i've seen. My favorite manga series is One Piece and one of the biggest reasons is because I love the art style. The characters don't look like every other anime character in the world. I also really like ero-guro and horror manga. Both of those types of manga usually have distinct art styles that are never like the generic anime style.

I really like both, most of the manwhas I know though are the romance ones and some are pretty iffy so I guess I would tilt more towards manga, I do love both though. :) I think one of the main issues for me though is remembering the names in manwhas, I feel like when i'm talking about the manwha I have to describe the character since I keep forgeting names. :/

@Krokodil- I'd suggest doing more than looking up pictures to judge whether you like manwha or not. I dislike One Piece personally because I detest it's artwork and it's characters, but that's just my own personal opinion. I <3 Horror manga art, it is as you said, distinct. And no, not all manwha artwork is like that. They have different styles, just like manga do. I only said that I liked Manwha better because I find that I find more series that I like within the manwha spectrum in comparison to manga. I also judge series by series, but when I made that statement, I was referring overall- taking into consideration the series I love the most.

Look through the Yen Plus anthology magazine. Half of it is manwha and there's a little bit of everything.

Yet so far I have only read to Manwha's by the same person how made a Kiss to my Prince. it is so cool cause it has history mix in to it history is something I kind of like in a way.

isn't manwha just the name of their yaoi equivalent? At least that's how the term was introduced to me. However I agree that I've never disliked a Korean manga. . .but at the same rate by the time I found them I had already figured out how to pick out the aeries I would and wouldn't like just by the art and basic descriptions. . . . I like both overall.

8D I'm reading that right now! It's so good.
@Lokie-Eh...no, it's not necessarily yaoi, though I'm sure there are some "gay" manwhas. Manwha is simply the term used for a "manga" that is made by a Korean author. It's a Korean comic.
@Sailor- I want to re-read Sailor Moon at some point...and I also love things by Clamp. Clamp is pretty flippin' awesome. <3

Shoujo manga seems to be more "cutesy" than shoujo (don't know the Korean word for it) manhwa. I found that in manhwa the bad boys really are bad! In manga the bad boys all seem to be nice guys on the inside. I like how manhwa seems a bit more realistic.

I like both equally.
I tend to find that the art for Manhwa is either hit or miss. I've found some really beautiful Korean comics and then I've seen some really ugly Korean comics. I haven't really seen much of a middle ground.
And then there's Jack Frost which looks more Japanese than Korean and it confuses me. o.O
The ones I've read have all had some great stories. Most of what of read is from Yen Plus+ but I've also been reading Forest of Grey City, Bride of the Water God, Model and Magical J x R. Yen Plus + has a great variety and the latter 4 have beautiful artwork and great stories.
But I don't find them that much different from Manga except that the artwork typically has a different style. Plus you run into a few different things culturally.

I'm pretty sure I like both equally. Most of the Manhwa I've read I've like. I'm really into Sarasah, Goong, Jack Frost, and Time and Again at the moment. I also consider the Maximum Ride Comic as Manhwa as for the fact that the artist of it is Korean. I usually don't care much for art styles as long as the art of the comic is beautiful and appealing. Manga-wise, I tend to lean more towards stuff like Loveless, D.N.Angel, D.Gray-Man, Hero Tales, and Fullmetal Alchemist(last two done by the same Mangaka). As long as the arts good, and it has a good story I'm not too picky. But then again. My preferences are a bit different than most peoples.:yumeh1::heart::yumeh1::heart:

I agree on that. I haven't disliked any Korean Manga.
I read this one named Sarasa. It's about a girl who stalks this popular kid because she really likes him. Then she fell down some stairs and died.
She got transfered to a different body in ancient Korea. And was a Nobleman's daughter.
You really should read it. It's REALLY good

I like both manga and manhwa. Both are unique and have their own ups and downs. Generally the art style of manhwas are much more detailed and beautiful than that of manga, however, a lot of korean series are romance based, and if you're looking for an action story, manga is generally the way to go. Both korean and japanese artists have different ways of drawing and story telling; there isn't one way that's better, it just falls down to what you prefer.
I love both. The manhwa Bride of the Water God has gorgeous art that I just can't get enough of, and an absolutely adorable plot. Such can also be said about Magical JXR, Moon Boy, and Legend. At the same time though, action series like Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragonball Z, or even lesser known series like Shiki or Tsukihime just wouldn't work with the feminine style of Korean artists because the style is so contrasting.
Now of course the above is all generalization, because it is perfectly possible for a manhwa to be action based and a manga to be romance based- many are- however, the general fact still remains that Korea is better at some things while Japan excels more so at others.
So I like both.
