Prologue:
I sat still. If I moved again I knew the pain would intensify. It coursed threw my body like never ending shock waves. Even the feeling of air being pulled into my lungs hurt. My head was dripping as blood fell out of the open wound. My fingers, the two that were left, twitched uncontrollably. My right arm and left leg were also missing. It was strange to how I was still living. I tried to turn my head but the pain stopped me. So instead I opened my eyes. I was welcomed by the sight of a bright light hanging over me. There were to two shadows in the corner. They were talking. Talking about me, I suppose. One of them must have noticed I was awake because his shadow got larger.
“Ma’am!! Come Quick!! She’s waking up.” I really wish he wouldn’t shout so loud.
A softer voice began to speak. “Can you hear me?”
I would have nodded my head but is hurt too much, so I tried to say yes. All that came out was gargled bubbles of blood. The lady sighed. She reached over to a gas mask and tried to force it on my face. She turned to her assistant. The next thing I knew was everything was dark. And I wondered…
Did I want to wake up, again?

Chapter 1:
Tuesday was supposed to be the most boringest day of my life. I was suppose to wake up at ridiculous hour, go to school, argue with my idiot friends, go home, argue with my idiot parents then fall asleep. But that cosmic force in the universe that makes strange things happen on your most boring days decided to mess with me for a change. The first three things on my list were accomplished but the forth thing, going home, never happened. Instead I was killed. But that’s getting ahead of the story… let’s start from the beginning.
My name is Heidi. Heidi Mary Dioh. I am not special, nor do I have super-powered parents, vampire friends, or radioactive surroundings. I am just a 17 year old girl that goes to Green Ridge Private School for Girls. This whole situation of bad luck occurs one morning after seeing my best friend get dumping by her loser boyfriend.
I kneel over her as she cries on the floor in the girls’ bathroom. “I’m telling you, Kate, this is not something to cry over,” I say soothingly as I rub her back. She just wails more.
“B-but he was s-supposed to b-be the one!!” She sobbed into her hands.
I rolled my eyes this was not something I was programmed to deal with. Tears are the only situation I have no experience with. So I was at a lost of words on how I was suppose to comfort her. I just smiled weakly and rubbed her back some more. “It’ll be fine,” I tried to say through her broken sobs, “There are lots of fish in the sea.”
She looked up at me. Her mascara had leaked down her cheeks and smudged her hands. “Ya think so?”
“Of course,” I said, giving her a confident smile.
She nodded solemnly until I gave her a playful shove. “C’mon,” I said helping her up. I grabbed a piece of toilet paper form the stales and wiped her face with some cold sink water. “Let try and get through the rest of the day, okay?”
She only nodded quietly. This is why I like having stupid friends. They become very easily to read therefore very easy to please. Kate, here, was no exception. When I was done wiping her face, we walked out the bathroom just as the class bell rang. The halls began to fill with thousands of students. Ever notice that no matter what direction you’re going in a crowd, the crowd seems to be going in the opposite direction. Anyway I pushed through with Kate right behind me holding on to the sweater of my uniform. As we got close to our class, Kate pulled on my sweater.
“HEY!!” She yelled over the roar of the people passing. “I have to go see my Spanish teacher; can you get my bag for me?”
I was about to yell back but I knew she wouldn’t hear me so I nodded my head and she took off. She ran down the hallway in the direction of the crowd, leaving me to trek forth in my journey to homeroom alone.
I didn’t take long to reach homeroom. I also knew my teacher was going to be in there. I opened the door. The room wasn’t anything joyful. There were no special decorations on the wall nor was any work hanging on display. Everything was plain. As I walked in I noticed my teacher, Mr. Marcus, was helping student. No doubt the student only wanted extra time with the ‘hot’ teacher who had transferred her two months ago. Nothing annoys me more than people who depend on their looks to get what they want.
I mental shook my head. This was no time to ramble off topic. I walked toward me and Kate’s seat. I picked up her side-bag and my backpack. My teacher had looked over at me with curious eyes. He pointed to my shirt. Then I remembered I still had wet water and mascara stains all over my uniform. I looked up at my teacher and just shrugged. I guess he had taken that answer because he turned back to tutoring the student.
I lazily grabbed the two bags off the desk and walked out the room. It was lunch time so most of the people were outside and the hallways were really bare now. I walked casually down the hall. I had to look innocent otherwise there were consequences. And I’m not talking about the principal catching me.
At this Private high, there is a gang. They are a group of girls who could probably take down the Mafia if they wanted to. They are organized and have never gotten caught for anything. Anything. They are called themselves the West Witches. They keep order and have almost everyone under their belt with blackmail of some sort. Except me. I’ve never done anything worth blackmailing so I’ve been safe ever since I came to this school.
As I walk down the hallway I began to hear whispers. Usually I would have ignored it but one of the voices sounded like Kate. I had to give her her bag back anyways so I headed in the direction of the whispers. As I got closer, the whispers became clearer and I noticed the conversation was actually an argument. I didn’t really want to be seen yet so I leaned against the wall and craned my neck over to see who was behind the building. I suddenly felt really short because I couldn’t see anybody, just their shadows. I sighed silently. I was just about to forget this whole thing when I heard the sound of flesh hitting flesh. The smack was so loud it made me freeze in the position I was in.
“You promised you would bring the money, bitch!!” I couldn’t recognize this voice but it didn’t sound happy.
“I w-was going to b-but I… I forgot it… a-at home…” this voice I did know. It was Kate. But I didn’t know what she was talking about. Kate didn’t owe anybody money. Kate was a good girl. Maybe a stupid one, but she was good girl.
“You’ve said that three times… and your time’s up!” another familiar voice. This one belonged to Violet Scarlett, the leader of the West Witches… and my next door neighbor.
There was another loud smack and the sound of something falling. I could hear Kate’s whimpering. They must have struck her again. I wanted to help her but my knees wouldn’t move. The sound of Violet laughing scared me even more. I suddenly felt my body trying to leave. But my mind wouldn’t let it. I had to help her. She’s my friend.
Mustering up all the courage I had I ran right toward them and right into one of Violet’s henchmen, er, henchwoman. The sound of us colliding with each other drew the attention away from Kate and on to me. Violet growled as she saw me. As she turned to face me I noticed Kate on the floor. She was bleeding from the head and probably unconscious right now. As my attention switched back to Violet I noticed she wasn’t carrying a bat; she was carrying an ax! The fear in me rose over my courage and I was beginning to think this wasn’t such a good idea.
“Well, well, well,” Violet said taping the flat part of her ax on her hand, “what we got here?” Her long black hair covered most of her face but you could still see the grin of satisfaction on her lips. My body, again, went into lock mode and this was not the right time for me to be having a mental argument with myself over leaving and staying. As I tried to move my body away Violet continued to speak. She grabbed Kate’s hair and pulled her up. “Look-y there Kate, ya friend’s is tryin’ ta save ya!”
Violet’s words reminded me of what I was doing in the first place. It was probably the most stupid thing I’ve ever done but I ran as fast as I could past all the henchmen that separated me from Kate and pushed Voilet away from my friend. Violet may be powerful but she wasn’t that big in size. She fell back on the ground and bumped her butt hard. She growled as she noticed me helping my friend onto my back. This was the part I hadn’t really thought about. How the hell was I suppose to escape!?
“Ya lil’ bitch!!” Violet screamed as she swung the blunt side of her ax against the back of my head. I fell to the ground and instinctively reached to the back of my head. Sure enough, I was bleeding. I tried to crawl away but Kate stepped on the end of my ankle twisting it. I grunted in a moment of pain. “I’ll teach ya da punishment of messin’ with da West Witches!!”
Before I even had a chance to resister what she was talking about pain shot through my leg. I screamed. And I could feel tears spring out of my eyes. At first I had thought she had broken my leg but I tried to move I realized there was no leg to move anymore. She had cut it off with the ax! I smelled blood. The horrid smell welled up in my nose. I griped the ground in pain. I heard her chuckle. She stepped on my left hand and swung the ax down onto my arm. I screamed again, louder this time.
I heard voices in the distance and heard Violet panicking. She sneered and left me and Kate to die. Just as I was beginning to loose my fight with the darkness rising around my eyes I felt something cold being pressed against me neck. I didn’t take much notice. I just let the darkness have its way and I closed my eyes.
