i love Howls Moving Castle! :yumeh1: just i also like the Nausicaa Valley of the wind Manga. ;) the film is ok but i prefer the manga. another one i love is Whisper if the Heart. it's less known but i still love it. :vicky: i know some people who only like Spirited Away because it's famous. i think all Miyazaki's films are amazing and not just because he's know world wide but because he still uses the almost lost art of hard drawn animation. :yumeh2:

I am amazed with Hayao Miyazaki's anime. It is really amazing. It has a heart on it and a warm message that helps the viewer to look deeper in the story. I think he is one of a kind...I almost love all of his works and the anime "Howl's Moving Castle" is the one that I like the most.

My very first anime ever was My Neighbor Totoro. So it is near and dear to my heart. I used to watch it over and over as a kid until I became a teenager and realized that there are other Japanese cartoons with a similar style.

My mom jokes around all the time saying it's her fault my sister and I like Anime. It's probably true, lol. My next runner up for favourite Miyazaki movie is Probably Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I bought the DVD and I still watch it occasionally.

However, I can ONLY watch My Neighbor Totoro on VHS. When they made the DVD for it, they changed ALL the voices in the movie and a lot of what they say. It's ENTIRELY different. I was really disappointed. I knew every line by heart, and some of my favourite ones are changed to something less cute or meaningful. Just because it is a famous actress doesn't mean it's better. >.>

I just finally saw Porco Rosso and Laputa: Castle in the Sky this weekend, and I think Castle in the Sky might be my new favorite. The first Ghibli I ever saw was actually Grave of the Fireflies, and then I saw Spirited Away I think the next day -- but Totoro is what got me hooked on Ghibli. Simply adorable.

But now I'm a lesser-known-Miyazaki-films fan. And there are the other ones as well, the other Studio Ghibli, like Whisper of the Heart, which I absolutely LOVE.

I didn't like whisper of the heart as much. Yea, it was cute and jazz, but I thought it was a little more boring than the rest, and rather lackluster. Though I liked all of the references to his other movies, like Moota and the baron from The cat Returns, and Porco Rosso in the clock.

Actually, Dr. Nyx, The Cat Returns (2002) was created after Whisper of the Heart (1995), I believe to have another movie with the Baron in it, as that character was so popular.

Personally I love Whisper of the Heart because it shows a normal Tokyo family in a cramped apartment, and I can sympathize with the cramped apartment as well as the hot weather. The soundtrack is also really great and eclectic, compared with Hisaishi's other scores from around that time. It's also one of the few Ghibli films that doesn't have magic in it, apart from Shizuku's imagination.
