Possibly, but it was predicted that the Mayans died 2012. But if something happens 2012, it's possible that somebody could save the world instead of us all going to death.

Nope dont believe any of it, the Mayans had to stop somewhere. Some Mayan calendar maker probably got to 2012 and said why the hell are we going all the way to 2012? and just stopped right there. As for it means that there is gonna be a new age well new age can mean anything. There was already the Bronze age, the Ice age, the dark ages. A new age doesnt mean the end of the world.

I don't think so.
I mean what if they really mean the world would end in 2013 but something happened to the rest of the calendar?
Or maybe the poor guy that had to make the calendar finally said "I'm done, someone else can finish this stupid long thing."
Maybe they decided that the people of 2012 would be smart enough to make a calendar to continue off what they left?

People have been giving end-of-the-world theories for centuries. I doubt 2012 will be the one.

I don't see why you were worried about some supernatural force destroying/ending the Earth when we're already doing a crackerjack job ourselves.

I don't think it is.
There have been many horror stories about the world ending before, and it hasn't happened.

If it ends 12/21/2012, then that's 1 day before my 18th birthday, so I don't want that to happen.

I don't think the world will end, but I do think something bad will happen.

No.
A few decades ago they said there would be an apocolypse that would kill everyone. Didn't happen
A few years ago, they said there was a massive mediorite heading for earth that was 12 times the size of earth. Didn't Happen
in 2008 A black hole was supposed to open at 12 O'clock and we would all get sucked in a die didn't happen.
the companies only use the excuse the world is going to end for publicity and money. If someone says the world is "going" to end people would go out and spend money. Its an advertising scam so my anwers in a no

I did quite a bit of research on this subject too, as have i read books and watched paranoia programmes. And i've come to the conclusion that it is POSSIBLE that SOMETHING will happen...but when is it ever not??
However, it will NOT be the end of the world.

As far as i know, they meant it to be the "end of an era", NOT the end of the world. Not to mention is would just RESTART their calander after that date anyway, had they still been alive and thriving. And the Mayans were astronomers. They expected a huge galactic event that day. And they are correct. There will be a galactic alignment on that exact day in 2012. But that will not end with anything going boom or us falling into a huge black hole...no. The worst that can happen is a slight polar shift (poles shifting position), but even then, it would shift VERY VERY slowly. It already IS shifting infact, about 1mm every year maybe??

Theres also expectations for solar activity from the sun (solar flares), however technology nowadays allows us to prepare months before anything drastic heads our way. The worst that can happen there is a blackout for a few hours or a small disruption to our magnetic field for a few minutes...and thats not going to harm anybody, cause again, technology these days allows us back-up systems for hospitals and major companies that rely on gas/electricity.

So yeah, don't worry too much. At most you'll read an awesome article around christmas 2012 about an outer space event that has happened for the first time in said, thousand years. (i forget the exact but i think it was 65,000 ish), and who knows what happened then? Certainly not me.

As for the polar shift, even if it did happen faster than expected, all we would get is a few big storms, earthquakes, maybe a small volcanic eruption. But we have them yearly anyway, so nobody will notice anything different, and nobody except the thickest souls will decide to link it to the said apocalypse, KAY?!

So enjoy your coffee, read your morning paper, and worry about tomorrow instead!

Yes and no, there are many things pointing to yes, but I would like to believe no so I say no. Ignorance is bliss in a case like this...I don't what to go through my high school years thinking that my first year of college the world is going to be destroyed. I like to enjoy life, not worry about it's end...

The other dates where people said the world was coming to an end, is different.
This time around, we have MANY things pointing at the fact that the year 2012 is suppose to have many many chains of events that will have a huge affect on Earth and humans itself. Now, we aren't talking about God and the Devil coming back, we're talking about natural disasters. The death toll has for sure gone up, the world is going through global warming, which has been proven. Not only that, but it was stated that the oceans would turn red, from what I remember reading, which would be an event that would impact on such date. The ocean turning red, isn't mean literally turning red. Red, which means blood, would be all the deaths of the animals taken from the oil spill, the oil spill, is taken over a lot of water, killing a lot of animals, and even have over 100 species on the edge of being endangered.
Now, why do people assume humans will never end? The dinosaurs came to an end, so can human beings.
Yes, humans can adapted, but so can animals; which people mistakenly believe they cannot, for some reason.

To me, it's the end of human beings - I think Mother Earth will stay, but a different kind will be living here, we took Earth for granted once too many times, and perhaps this is her just getting rid of us? Think about it, Mother Nature will be the reason for all these lost lives, and it seems she has grown much more angrier, if you can't tell, try checking out weather history - it's gotten much worse.
Which, was stated, that the end of human beings would be done by natural causes (such as weather and diseases); which makes perfect sense if you really take the time to think about it.

I think its possible for the world to end obviously!
but to predict the worlds ending date isnt completely believable.
Like every planet explodes at some point and the world is
a planet so eventually the world will end, but why predict it?
Why not just live you life to the fullest?

One of the biggest fears when Y2K rolled around was that the computers and launch equipment on nuclear bombs would malfunction and the bombs would all go off at once thus bringing on the end of the world. People were afraid of a nuclear winter and a post-Apocalyptic world on top of all the computer system in the world failing.

As for 2012, it's just another end of the world scare. People in 1899 thought that the world was going to end in 1900. It is ridiculous to think that we can predict something as spontaneous and chaotic as the end of the world. It could happen now right as I'm typing this. I know it's a scary thought, but it's not something that cannot be calculated. Something that we can't control.

My outlook has always been better safe than sorry. I got knives and guns and other blunt weapons if the zombies do come. Though I'm personally more afraid of the government coming to collect us all and deciding who gets to go into the safe underground bunkers with our serpent space brothers and who fries on the surface. If you don't think that they would do something like that, then I'm sorry for you.

The Mayans Ending of their long count calendar is a measured age like other people have said. This alignment however is suppose to be a bit different than the others. It's both a destruction and new beginning. It measures the alignment of the earth (and our solar systems) movement threw the galactic center. They were very much into astronomy and astrology and were very accurate in their measurements. All of their solar and lunar eclipses were predicted by this calendar.

NASA even has this major solar date on their website listed as heightened solar activity. Which may be able to mess with our satellites functions. So the internet may go down for 6 months around the world. They are preparing for this possibility already. Anyone heard abut Net 2? Internet down for 6 months is hardly an end of the world scenario. . .However the reason for this alignment might be.

Let me go further.

Though not to much, because most people only believe in the one sun (SOL or soul) and know nothing about the possibility of a dark star (many names) twin that most solar systems have. The "Black Sun" does indeed have a place in history and in myths and legends of many cultures. The Nazis merely used it's symbol on their flag. The Dark sun is rising. That symbol comes from parts of India and ruins of Babylon and is one of the most ancient symbols known to man. Also many "fringe" Scientists believe it's possible we have a brown dwarf star in our system because our solar system wobbles to much for the known planets with out something else being their.

Think about this:

Remember why they found Pluto(the ex planet) in the first place?

It was because they did calculations showing there is something as of yet unseen in our solar system. Look it up.

Well, the ancient Mayan calendar does end in 2012, and it was, as far as I can discern, created to measure all of time; it was nothing like our calendars that we have today that only go up to a certain date because this was a circular device with moving parts to measure time.

However, there are no writings or anything of the sort from the ancient Maya regarding any sort of catastrophe or awakening or any of the numerous other theories about what they actually believed was going to happen. For all we know, they really may have just decided it would be unnecessary to measure time for a longer period. Or they may have either believed or known that something was going to happen, but we don't know nowadays what it was supposed to be.

Most of the theories regarding 2012 actually have nothing to do with the calendar itself but with the New Age movement and information people have "channeled" from spirits. Now let me clarify one thing before I continue: Most of the actual predictions aren't the destruction of the Earth as the majority of people seem to think. Rather, most of these authors are claiming that 2012 is going to be some kind of "spiritual enlightenment" or "ascension" rather than the end of the world, although some say that some kind of natural disasters may come before or accompany that.

However, a lot of the theories these people are given by these spirits either totally contradict the theories the same types of spirits are supposed to be telling other people, and many of the things they claim can actually be scientifically disproven. The problem is that most of these people seem to just trust whatever their "spirit guides" tell them without questioning exactly what they are and what their motives are. Because of the discrepancies in the predictions, it's quite clear that either those spirits have no idea what they're talking about themselves, or that they're lying to us.

This is probably going to turn into a somewhat lengthy post, but I think it's important to educate people about some of these things that are going on. To really understand where these predictions and ideas are coming from, you have to look into the actual history of the New Age movement. It's somewhat more complicated than this, but I can summarize it here: The one thing that actually led to the birth of the New Age movement, for the most part, was a religion called Theosophy created by a woman named Helena Blavatsky, who claimed to have channeled all of the information that she put into her books from a spirit guide in the late nineteenth century. Later on, another woman named Alice Bailey claimed to have contacted the same types of spirits, who told her that it was her duty to continue the work of Theosophy. To do so, she founded an organization called the Lucifer Trust. The name was later changed to the Lucis Trust, and to this day it works very closely with the United Nations. In fact, they have their own prayer room located within the UN Building.

However, as made somewhat evident by the original name of the organization, if you actually look into Theosophy, its founders were very blatant about the fact that they were actually worshiping Satan. I don't mean to come across as, well, insane by making that statement, but Helena Blavatsky stated so numerous times herself. One of the goals of the movement is to create basically a one-world government and unite the entire Earth. This concept appears in basically all New Age teachings to this day - such as the idea of the Age of Aquarius, which is supposedly going to bring world peace and all of that. Going by their own astrology, the Age of Aquarius actually shouldn't happen for another century or so. However, apparently they just decided they could change it to 2012, because most New Age 2012 books these days are claiming it's going to be the Age of Aquarius.

What's more, Theosophy also teaches that basically all religious figures from the past, including Jesus, were manifestations of one man, called Maitreya. They also teach that Maitreya is supposed to show up again sometime and bring about this Age of Aquarius. They also state that there is another spirit who actually gives this power to Maitreya, known as Sanat Kumara. They stated themselves that the first part of this name is intentionally a rearrangement of the letters to spell "Satan." This idea also pretty much parallels how the Antichrist receives power from Satan - In fact, it's pretty obvious how alike the New Age Maitreya and the Antichrist seem to be.

Now even if all of that isn't bad enough, it's actually quite a likely possibility that Hitler got a lot of his ideas for the Holocaust from Theosophy and its concepts of "superior races." A man who actually knew him well once stated that he obsessed over Helena Blavatsky's book and slept with it on his nightstand every night. I've also heard the claim that the Holocaust was basically a rehearsal of what's going to happen when Maitreya actually shows up, on a smaller scale, but I haven't found any evidence necessarily to validate this idea.

There's also a film that has become popular in recent years called Zeitgeist, which basically takes the concepts of Theosophy and, to some extent, Freemasonry and proposes to create basically a utopia through an organization known as the Venus Project. They have a few videos about how they plan to do this. However, in the first part of one of these videos, they devote an entire hour or so to attempting to totally disprove Christianity before introducing their ideas for this one-world system. Their claims are actually totally false, and every reason they give for Christianity being untrue has been completely disproven. (They actually claimed at one point that the fact that the English words "son" and "sun" sound the same is proof that Christianity took ideas from sun-worship. -_-) The reason for this is quite obvious - The Bible warns us AGAINST the idea of a one-world government and predicts exactly what will happen when one is established. However, if they managed to convince people that Christianity was false, then they would be much more likely to accept their new world order.

So anyway, my theory regarding the 2012 predictions is this: These New Age leaders most likely want us to believe in this spiritual enlightenment and such, but not because it's actually going to be real. Rather, if someone showed up and claimed that they could bring world peace, if we were convinced that the Age of Aquarius was about to come, chances are a lot of people would believe this. It wouldn't be until later on that the New World Order showed its true motives.

However, keep in mind that they were making the exact same claims in the year 2000. It was supposed to be an enlightenment as well. In fact, they had a lot of people convinced that Egyptian gods were about to return to Earth and bring about this Age of Aquarius. They even had a ceremony planned to put a capstone on the Great Pyramid and emblazon the Eye of Horus onto it with lasers. This, however, was canceled by the Egyptian government. The predictions obviously didn't come true, either. But regardless, they got a lot of people to believe it - and I think that's a lot of the idea, regardless of whether the events actually occur. I consider it highly unlikely that anything will actually happen in 2012, but I'm fairly certain that if it does, it definitely won't be what it appears to be. Whether anything happens or not, it doesn't change the fact that there are people working toward bringing all of this about. If anyone actually read all of this and is interested in hearing more about it, though, there's a documentary called "Aquarius: Age of Evil" that exposes a lot of it, and all of the parts of it have been posted to YouTube if anyone wants to see it.

I dont know anything about the science behind it.. But maybe if there was science behind it that would blow up the universe ( or at least earth ) then its probably true? Because how can a theory be so off.. Universe blowing up vs. Nothing happening. But if it was surely true, I'm pretty sure there will be more hints all around the world and most likely, people who know for sure will panic and tell people

Anything is possible, but I highly doubt that the world will end as suddenly as some people think it might. We're not going to go to bed the night before, the world perfectly fine, and be dead before we wake up. It's silly to think that, especially since this end of the world hype is based off of the Mayan Calendar.

The human race isn't going to end because of a date.

Personally, I think this whole thing is nonsense. I don't see why the world is so obsessed with feeding the delusions that life is going to end at the drop of a hat, with no scientific evidence backing it up. However, people are free to think what they want.

(Also, it'll be pretty hilarious when we're all sitting there in 2013, watching the movie, 2012.)
