My favorites are Al and Riza. And Izumi, Marta, Russell, and Fletcher, too. :D Barry the Chopper was super awesome in the manga, too.

Oh, I know! I was very shocked by the manga when Roy pretened to kill Maria. At first I was furious, but when I found out he was faking was thrilled! Maria is awesome. Although I was sad that she wouldn't let Denny know she wasn't dead. :<
This was the first anime series I ever saw... and I was completely and totally hooked. I love the whole series and liked the movie minutely less. The manga is fantastic in a whole new way, I just wish the volumes would come out in English faster! anyhoo... sorry, got a little excited there :roll: ...

My firend and I joked abotu the Hughes death, she'd say he didn't die he went on vacation. I was ok till the funeral.

I can't believe they killed off Hughes!! He's just about my favorite character in the whole bloody show and they KILLED him!! I sobbed like a baby. That scene at the end with his daughter freaking out at the funeral was too much. I was already upset and that sent me over the edge into blubbering. Good grief, haven't Ed and Al lost enough people they care about?! No, they needed to lose another parental figure! Because they aren't screwed up enough yet! *GRR* *sniffle*

Please don't say how they die or even when, but I cope better if I have time to come to terms with crap like this BEFORE I watch it. I am emotional enough without my fantasy worlds screwing up on me.
I like the characters in this show so much. I'm not sure I can keep watching it if many more of them die. I was completely unprepared for Hughes to die and it just about made me throw up. I know he's just a drawing but I get invested in anime characters and he was one of the few in FMA that really had so much to live for. A loving wife and daughter, of course they couldn't let him have all of that. It would defeat the purpose of the anime in showing that life sucks and evil rules the word. There is no equivalent exchange in life and I get that but dagnabbit couldn't they leave just a tiny spark of happiness in the otherwise bleak series? *sigh*
Okay, I think I feel a bit better now. I just needed to get that off my chest. I'm still pissed and mopey but I can go back to watching the series and hoping that Hughes' death will serve some purpose in the end. That there was a good reason for killing my favorite character (well, tied for favs anyway). If I get to the end and that proves not to be the case...well, that is why I read and write fanfiction. I'll just mentally rewrite the story to make me happy. I've done it before and I'll no doubt have to do it again.
Gosh, anime can be so emo sometimes. I wonder if the bleak outlook presented in so many series is a cultural thing or if it is just the writers that feel the need to destroy all that is good in the world they created.
Brigadier General Hughes, rest in peace. (at least until I decide to rewrite the show as fanfiction and make sure you don't die)

I totally understand how you feel about Hughes dying. It just isn't fair. I mean, this always seems to happen, no matter what show you watch. The family man always dies. It's like some kind of unwritten law. Still, I think Hughes' death was the worse of any I've seen.
I've been watching the show with my mom and she had to stop at that episode because it was so depressing.
As far as warnings go... well, just don't get too attached to any of the homunculi. There will be a shocker toward the end of the series, but I'm not going to tell you what, only that it'll get better (sorta).
Thanks Mizuko. I have watched a couple more episodes since I saw that one, but it is very hard to press on feeling the way I do. I'll keep your warnings in mind as I try to finish the series. Tell your mom she's not the only one.
but after you watch the 51 episodes of the show you have to see the movie... 'conqueror of shambala'... it kind of wraps up the "sort of" better ending that mizuko mentioned ... i feel like it takes it from a "sort of" good ending, to a "pretty good" ending...
there is also another series out called 'fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood'... i haven't seen much of it, just the first episode, but you can find them online if you are wanting some more fullmetal love! :heart:
I agree. The ending does make it a little better, although there are still some things that make me sad about it. Despite everything though, it's an amazing series.
FMA: Brotherhood is less depressing in my opinion as it follows the manga storyline pretty closely, although it has it's moments.

Well I know iFull Metal Alchemist is on adult swim. I watch it from time to time. I know the plot and all, I just never really fell in love with it. FMA is a stunning anime though. Soo cool. Maybe I should start tuning in more? I think so.
I almost cried, also whenever they get really deep I'm effected emotionally

either is fine with me. I liked the anime because I was able to see the action take place, that's always my favorite part about the anime. But I also like the manga because you learn so much more about the characters and everything else. Besides, the manga is longer and it hasn't finished yet, I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

No, not really, there are characters I dislike, all of the homunculi for one (except greed). Plus all of the bad guys... I don't think i hate or dislike any of the good guys.
