Has anyone else read this book? I read it this year in school.

I thought it was a darkly beautiful novel that illustrated the joy of friendship tied to true love and the bitterly cruel twists of fate. Werther's reflections and recounts of his unrequited love truly moved me to empathetic tears. The night I finished the novel I couldn't help but reflect on my own life, even though it would be wrong of me to say that I had many years to peruse.

In short, I found it had an elegance to it. What about you?

I've never read it, but I do like Goethe, so I may end up reading it eventually. Ever since my friend and fellow German-literature-enthusiast told me that this book wasn't even worth reading, I have been afraid of being disappointed by it. But I may read it eventually anyway.

I guess it depends on preference. I just connected to the character, which might be why I was able to endure the monotony of some areas of the novel.
