Man, am I beat. Know why? I've been painting my walls! It's not done, and I probably won't be finished until tomorrow, but there is some paint up, and boy am I pleased with it!
So while I nurse my sore arms and back, I decided I'd like to hear some of your DIY project stories, Menewsha!
Do any DIY projects recently? Or are you planning any for the coming months? Or maybe there's something you're just DYING to do but don't have the funds/time for? Any amusing stories from projects past? Or do you just prefer to hire professionals to do the work while you sit back sipping a drink laughing at their exertion?
Do share, I'd love to hear!

Well it's not really a story... but it is a moan!
I have a husband with the best intentions - and here are some examples:
"I'll organize the baby's change table/cot and put them together" - Done two weeks before baby's birth.
"I'll replace the knobs that have fallen off the drawers" - I bought the knobs when I was pregnant. Daughter is now nine months old!
"I'll construct a shed because we don't have one in our rental yard" - Currently doing that now, two years after we moved here.
"I'll make a bed rail so you have more room in bed when baby is there." That was over a month ago. I plan to buy one tomorrow!
Ok I'm done. On a funny side note there's a handyman service in our town called "Hire a Hubby." LoL they get a lot of business!

Ahh, procrastination. I am no stranger to it! So I can't condemn your hubby too much. But I imagine the procrastination can be quite irritating when it's someone else who's not doing what you want. With me, if it doesn't get done I've no one to blame but myself.

Since I'm job hunting at the moment, my aunt has been trying to help me by paying me to do odd jobs around her house.
Painting a ceiling alone in a house alone in the woods is kind of scary. I was so scared of falling and breaking my neck, but I finally got through it! (:
Then I've been reorginizing the movies and cds in my house.
And I'm currently trying to build a bamboo bicycle frame on my own (I might cave and have someone help me).

I've repainted three of the rooms in my boyfriend's mom's house and prepped crown & base molding for installation, and two of the rooms had differntly colored ceilings, doors, walls, and trim. Also pulled up an entire room's worth of vinyl tile, and hung various art, window treatment, even curtains around his bed. It's exhausting, but worth it when you get to kick back in an awesome room. His bedroom is red, blue & gold with hand-casted fleur-de-lis painted gold lining the ceiling (sounds gaudy as hell but it's actually really nice looking and very cozy in there). My room's walls are green, the doors, ceiling and closet are dark blue and all the trim is what I like to call duct-tape silver :P. The entertainment room downstairs is grey with white trim, the furniture is white and the floor is checkerboard ceramic tile in black and white. It looks awesome with the black glass furniture/TV stands.

The Real Nikki - Wow, you're building your own bicycle frame? That sounds awesome!
AldreaOrcinae - Wow, you're quite the experienced DIYer! And those rooms sound pretty cool. :D

Hmm... I've got an old footlocker trunk I would like to do something with, but I'm not sure what. It's pretty old and grungy looking, which is kinda cool in itself, but I'm thinking I should fix it up instead. I think we might use it as a coffee table... maybe. OR maybe I'll get out the modge-podge? Ideas?
The other project I'd like to do is to paint our small bookshelves. I'd like them in black, but the color they are now really matches a painting I am going to put up, so I haven't decided if I will just freshen up the blue they are now. If I were more motivated, I would paint them black but then in the inside I would have black and white damask wallpaper. I've seen this before and it looks so pretty! (I'm really into damask and baroque right now!)
Are pictures okay here on Menewsha? Because I want to show you all some cool wallpapers and projects I've found! (I save stuff I like for inspiration.)
The first are just some cool frames in a neat design. I am way into b&w lately! The second is a re-purposed headboard from a bed! And the third is a neat little banner made from felt or something, which would be cute to hang up with the wording of your choice like over the fireplace or something in colors that match your room.
Yes- the fourth is made with paint samples! Apparently the guy who did this went to different paint stores every day for weeks and grabbed these samples to make this. I love the way it turned out! And the second is wallpaper by Lisa Bengtsson- she's got some cool stuff!
I used to have a ton more photos but lost them when I had to reformat my computer :( (Although come to think of it I might have a backup somewhere...)
Also, I'd love to see pictures of all of your projects!

Of course pictures are okay! :) And those are some cool ones.
The frame collage (the first picture) is similar to something I'll be doing with one of my walls, actually. I'm going to use a mixture of cube shelves and simple frames, all painted a good uniform black, and then fill them with various knick knacks and photos. Since the frames will all match, it should make an otherwise schizophrenic collection look cohesive.
That paint chip wall decoration reminds me of something I saw in a magazine recently. She took a ton of different wallpaper scraps with a united theme (floral and muted colors) and just did this hodge podge of them all over one wall of her bedroom. It ended up looking really cool! I'll try to find that magazine again later and then get the details so I can see if I can find it online. It looked awesome.
Is your foot locker wooden or metal? If it's wooden, maybe you could sand it down and give it a new stain? You're not limited to wood colors, either. There's plenty of wood stains in really unusual colors, like orange and green. Depending on how many coats you put on, it could be a really translucent color, or it could look solid. But putting it on light enough that you can still see the grain of the wood looks really cool, in my opinion.

Right now I am working on refurbishing a bike. I needed to fix the frame up and finally got it sanded and painted so now I need to fix up the wheels. I also painted all the rooms in my house recently and pulled up all the carpet, and tiled my kitchen floor. I also built a snake enclosure this morning because my cat's fat butt ruined the screen on the one I had my ball python in. I also built a chick coop before that turned out really cute.
I tend to just build things myself if it needs to be done. I mean, I can't build anything too complex but little things I can do by myself just fine. I still have a ton of projects that I need to save money up and do eventually.

One of my local camera stores is going to have a major sale this coming weekend. I am going to go get a couple of their super cheap, close out lenses and make myself some special effects lenses for my camera.
I don't do a lot of diy stuff otherwise. My house hasn't been painted in yeeeeaaaarrrrs.

I have way too many things on my list right now. I just moved so it's a lot of little things. I want to at least finish my basement and paint the walls down there. After the basement I want to build some shelves in my "office" for books and things like that. I also need to fix the drawers in my kitchen because some how one of them ended up falling apart. I also need to make another bin for my roaches pretty soon here too. I may end up just building a shelving unit to keep the roach bins on just so they're out of the way.

Ahh, yeah, moving in... lots of projects. ><
Sometimes I feel like painting my walls is pointless since I'll be moving out in a year or two. But it'll make the rest of my stay here much more pleasant, so I just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Good luck on your to-do list!

I'm hoping to stay here for a while or at least until my sister wants to sell her apartment which is the unit upstairs from me. That's pretty much the same reason I painted my walls too. I draw on my walls so there's random flowers on my bedroom walls. The yard is awesome which is another project I need to work on.
