Happily
Scaled Times
Len smiled, blushing a bit as she entered the court. The room was filled with a rainbow of dancers. People were dressed in their finest ball gowns. People mingled along the sidelines or hovered near the banquet tables. The only open spot was before the thrown of the royalty, where guards made sure the majesty's had plenty of breathing space.
A little embarrassed but thrilled to be there, Len stepped into the crowd, trying to take it all in. She was probably the only girl here who was not of noble blood. Her ranking was through her fathers business. They were well to do merchants and their goods were vital to the economy of the kingdom. Her father was brilliant in his trades. He could take just about any deal and turn it into a huge success. Thus they were able to get their daughter invited to the palace's next ball. Mother fussed and helped to get just the right outfit for tonights moment. She was sure they were hoping for a courtship to be inspired from tonight. Len didn't mind, she herself would welcome a bit of romance. She certainly at least looked like she fit in. Her dress was of a far away silk, with intricate lace and embroidery around all the edges and seams. The material was a simple cut to her figure and it followed her every curve. It was modest and yet well tailored to suit her. Not that she needed any enhancements. She was very pretty indeed. Perhaps not the bell of the ball, but one to linger an eye on. Her long hair was a deep fuscia and was soft as a feather, and shone brilliantly in the sunlight. Her eyes were the dark recess of a blue lake. Her skin was a little weathered from her travels with her father, but it was well cared for and smooth as her silk.
She smiled and stepped further into the din of the crowd, blushing whenever a boy looked in her direction. It was then that she felt the pull of a pair of eyes upon her. Whispers ushered in her direction as footsteps approached her. They clicked consecutively upon the marbled floor. Like a military step, advancing into battle. She turned to the direction of that step only to gasp in surprise. She had been blushing every since she came in, but now she felt the heat as it raced across the front of her face. A young man stood graciously in front of her. He was tall with a dark blue-green tint for his eyes and long lashes. A skinny lad, but there was a hint of muscle to him from years of swrord practice. His face was narrow with a nose to match. He was not gorgeous but he was refined and elegant, charming, was what they said about him. long curly dark brown hair Waved in front of his face as he bowed slightly to her. He made careful not to let the golden circlet atop his head slip even in the slightest.
“The prince!” Len's heart cried out in embarrassed horror.
Len curtsyed back when she remembered her manners, terribly aware of her status and how she felt so far beneath the man in front of her. And yet, that smile of his, began to tug at her. A soft push to her heart, that made her want to sigh dreamily.
