I haven't worked on this story for so long. I don't think I will, its pretty bad. XD But, maybe some of you guys might like it. :P

Now, here it is. It's called "Footsteps."

----------------------

Chapter 1

I pressed myself against the wall. The airport was stuffed full of people. I was sure it had reached the maximum capacity limit. This was very overwhelming for a shy girl like me, but I wasn’t going to back down. No, not this time.
“Flight number 14 is due to take off in twenty minutes; last call for flight number 14.” I heard through the loudspeaker overhead. I took a deep breath. This was it. I thought. This is the day… that I’m finally on my own. I bent over to grab my bags. I stood back up and gasped at what stood in front of me. The biggest line I’ve ever seen. And it was for my plane.
I sighed. There had to be at least fifty or sixty people in front of me. I pulled out my cell phone to pass the time. The phone was old; I’d had it for six years. It was a flip phone, and the keys were wearing off. A couple of years back; I had rewritten the numbers on the keys with a sharpie. It had smudged over. So, since I couldn’t read the numbers, I had written them down on a scrap piece of paper and taped them on. Hopefully, after getting a job, I’d be able to afford a new one.
After fifteen or so minutes, I was next in line.
“Miss? May I see your plane ticket?” somebody asked me. “Miss?”
I stuffed my phone back into my purse. “Oh, okay. Here.” I thrust my ticket at the man.
“Thank you.” he replied. He examined it, and then put it in a basket he was holding. “Okay, you’re free to go.” he said.
I nodded at him, and walked up the steps onto the plane. The plane was also buzzing with people. I managed to squeeze myself onto a seat. Earlier, I had refused to give my bags to the employees, since I only had two that were like backpacks. They were small, too. I suppose I didn’t feel like I needed too much. I mean, I’d get more items once I start getting used to New York. Yes, that’s where I was going. New York.

I was sitting next to two people; a young child and her mother.
“Hi.” I smiled.
“Hello there.” answered the mother heartily, whose name, I found out, was Diane. “So, are you visiting family?”
“No, I’m going to be moving there.”
“We are too! Do you know anybody in New York?”
“Actually, I don’t. It’ll be an all new experience for me. I just finished up college, so I chose here to live.”
“Oh, that’s nice. Well, I hope we’ll see you there…” Diane was interrupted by her child.
“Mommy!” she whispered urgently. “I gotta--”
“Okay, I’ll take you. I’ll be right back.” Diane attempted a smile, but only managed a small half-smile.

I think I just made a new friend. I thought. A sudden surge of happiness went through my body, causing me to wriggle. Even though she is about… oh, maybe ten years older than me, she’s still a friend!
I jumped once I saw that they were sitting next to me again.
“Oh, I-I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you… had come back.” I explained, scratching the back of my neck nervously.
“It’s fine … now; I haven’t caught your name yet. Would you care telling me?” she asked me nicely.
“Uh, I’m Mia. Mia Aldae.” I mumbled.
“What a pretty name.” remarked Diane thoughtfully.
“Thanks.” I said. “Well, I might as well start reading my book.”
At that I tugged off one of my backpacks and pulled out a rather thick book. As well as thick, it was falling apart. The spine had to be taped five times over before it was… secure enough to hold. As you could see, I handle that book very often.

A half hour or so into my book, I began to feel drowsy. Slowly, I drifted off to sleep…

Hours later, I woke up. Diane was still wide awake, telling jokes to her little girl.
“Diane, do you know what time it is?” I asked her, wiping sleep away from my eyes.
Diane nodded and checked her watch. “It’s six. So, about an hour until we’re landing.”
“Oh, okay.” I said. I got myself comfy again. My book lay on my lap. I picked it back up and read some more.

My stomach growled. And then it growled a second time. Diane’s daughter seemed to have noticed it.
“Are you hungry? Your tummy’s growling.” she explained, rubbing her stomach to add emphasis.
“A little bit. Do you know when the snack lady is coming around again, sweetie?” I asked her nicely.
“Yep.” she said proudly.
“Can you tell me when…?” I said.
She leaned in to her mother and whispered, “When is the snack lady coming?”
“In fifteen minutes, I believe.” Diane replied, puzzled.
“In fifteen minutes, I believe.” she mimicked in a singsong voice.
I replied kindheartedly, “Thank you very much.”
“You’re very welcome!” she exclaimed happily.
“Would you mind telling me your name?” I asked softly.
“My name is Hanna Floire. I’m six.” she told me promptly, holding up six of her fingers.
“Ah! I’m Mia, and I’m twenty years old.” I smiled, flashing both of my hands twice.
Hanna’s eyes were as round as grapes.
“Wow.” she gasped. “You’re… old, Mia.”
I chuckled. “Well, yes, I suppose so...”
“What grade are you in?”
“I finished college, which is the last school you go to. So now, I’m officially…” I paused dramatically, as to entertain Hanna. “…A grown-up.”
Again, Hanna’s eyes grew extremely round. This time, her mouth did the same.
“So you don’t even live with your mommy and daddy anymore?” she asked.
“Nope. Not anymore.” I grinned.
She sank back into her seat, extremely bewildered.

I like it, I have a pretty vivid picture in my head of Hanna, and I can relate to the shyness, I say keep working on it and see what happens.
