Omg, Mystic, my cat owns me too! I've had her since she was a kitten, and she's been my little princess for 17 years. She sleeps on my pillow, or on my head, ONLY eats canned food and drinks milk, I pick her fresh catnip once a week, she eats off my plate, etc. My boyfriend hates her, but I think he's just jealous b/c she and I spoon at night.
Ha, my exhusband didn't like my Himalayan because she would always sleep on the pillow between us. She'd growl at him if he tried to move her and wouldn't let him near me. She's such a drama queen and a spoiled princess. She also has horrible separation anxiety and meows the whole time I leave the house and just waits for me at the door or in the window next to my back door until I get home. I think she's afraid of being abandoned again. I also was not supposed t adopt her and was going to get a different kitten in her litter and she just sat in the corner in a basket and was staring at me when I went to visit her sibling my mm wanted me to take. I didn't even have to pick her up or anything and I just knew she was going to be my baby because she just stared at me the whole time.
My favorite type of cat is... any cat that will like me. I'm a future crazy cat lady, or so I like to tell people.
I had a cat all my life (the same cat, actually), and he passed away a few years ago, leaving a big kitty-shaped gap in my life. :( So since then I've sort of been obsessed with cats, but I can't get one of my own until I move out.
I wouldn't discriminate against any cats based on their breed, but some of my favored breeds are persians (not with the SUPER flat face, just stout), Himalayans, Rag Dolls, and Maine Coons. They're all such sweet, good-natured kitties, and I absolutely adore any long-haired cat. But I'd be just as happy with a short-haired tabby, a kitty is a kitty.
I love all cats; my life is incomplete without them. I think my favorite breeds, at least as far as looks go, are Scottish Folds and Orientals. I can't wait until we move out of this apartment and I can finally have a cat again. It's depressing.
I don't know anything about breeds - both of my cats are mixes of whatever and I love them! Cat #1 hates cameras for some reason and so I have no pictures of her, but Cat #2 is my pretty model boy so I'll use that as an excuse to drown you all in pictures of him.
Since one of the kittens "disappeared", it sounds like mama kitty came back and moved it. She may have been going to come back for the others or left them because the human scent was too much for her. If they are that young, and especially if the mama is fairly wild, if a human touches them, it could lead the mom to abandon them. But at least now they have a really good home, which they wouldn't have had, had not your step-mom intervened. So it worked out for the better of the kittens.
That's kind of how I ended up with my Max. My son and his girlfriend heard him mewing and crying but didn't see a mama kitty. They said they waited and waited but she never showed, and the kitten was alone and near a tree near the road. He was a little too young to be away from his mama, but once they picked him up, mama probably wouldn't have taken it back. Like your two, at least now Max has a really good home. He's quite a spoiled rotten little brat :)!
@InfinitysEcho: Yeah, that's what my step-mom thinks to this day. ;) Haha. Great story!

In retrospect, she adapted very quickly to my home, so I think that she might not have been a stray in the proper sense, and that she might have been abandoned by her original owners. A bigger type of cat, and sheds quite a bit, but incredibly loving and friendly.
@du Mort: Wow, nice. :) Do you have any pictures of her?

@DarkxLorelei:Hmm, interesting. I think I met a cat recently who might be part Mancoon, then. But only partly. :XD

personally, i like calico coloured cats. hence my user name. a common misconception is that calico and tortoiseshell are the same thing but it isn't. calico cats have a white based coat with patches of black and orange where torties are black and orange with patches of white. another common misconception is that the calico is a separate breed which it isn't, it's a colour pattern on the fur.
not the only cats i'm partial to though. i have a thing for norweigian forest cats, persians and siamese cats. very pretty indeed.
i like all cats. my current one is 2 months old, white tummy and orange-tabby back.
his name is Whiskey, and he's very playful and spoiled. as soon as i touch him and take him in my arms he starts purring.
other than this, i think i like long haired cats :)
I love all cats as long as there nice. Cats and kittens are super cute and I love them so much. It makes me very sad that I can't have a cat in my dorm room.
